The war between the Sullivan and Blackwell dragon clans has raged for centuries. Now it’s time for the war to come to an end. King Marcus Sullivan wants to combine the clans in order to secure the treaty, and the best way to do that is by mating his daughter, Leah, to a member of the Blackwell clan. The problem is, Leah doesn’t want a mate. She definitely doesn’t want a mate who is an overbearing, narcissistic dragon from the Blackwell clan. But she doesn’t have a choice if she wants to help secure the treaty and save her clan. Then she meets Ray. The alpha wolf makes Leah feel alive for the first time in her life. Suddenly, mating and spending the rest of her life with Ray is all she can think about. But Ray is not a dragon, and mating with him won’t solve her clan’s dilemma. So, what’s a girl to do when the fate of her clan is no longer the most important thing in her life?
view moreLeah Sullivan had never wanted to slap someone so bad! She sat in one of the two black leather armchairs across from her father’s large mahogany desk, and stared at her father, King Marcus. The only outward sign that she was anything other than the calm, unaffected facade she presented was a slightly raised eyebrow.
She was pissed, but she would not show it. She was a dragon princess; the future queen and ruler of the Sullivan clan. She had to stay in complete control of her emotions. To show emotion is to show weakness, and a true leader must never show weakness. It leaves you too vulnerable to the enemy. Her father taught her that when she was twelve years old, and she took the lesson to heart.
Right at this moment, her father was the enemy and she would not show him weakness. She took a deep breath and let it out slowly before addressing her father. “I'm sorry. I think I heard you incorrectly. Did you just say you were giving me to the Blackwell clan?”
King Marcus returned her stare with one of his own. “You heard correctly, Leah. This war must end. There have been way too many casualties and our clans can’t afford to lose anymore dragons. Queen Dominique and I have discussed it and we both agree that this is the best solution.”
Leah quickly lost the internal battle of wills with her patience. She exploded out of her seat, the green of her eyes darkening and her dragon pushing to strike at the perceived threat. “Have you lost your mind! I am not a piece of property for you to just give away! Did you even think to ask me what I wanted before going behind my back and -?”
Before she could finish her tirade, her father jumped out of his seat, his own green eyes darkening to match hers and dark blue scales began to sprout on his skin. “SILENCE!” King Marcus glared at Leah for a moment. When he was sure he had her undivided attention, he continued. “You will show some respect, young lady. I am still your father, and the king. Now, sit down and shut up!”
Leah was tempted to continue standing just out of spite, but decided not to incite her father even more than she already had. She could tell her father was two seconds away from tossing her across the room to show her who was the alpha. And, while she was an alpha as well, she wasn't The Alpha. She was not nearly as strong as her father, at least not yet. Paranormals grew stronger with age, and since they could live to be 1000 years old, Leah was still practically a baby at age 30. Occasional flares of temper aside, he would wipe the floor with her if she ever thought to really challenge him. Putting her pride aside for the time being, she grudgingly retook her seat, but continued to glare at her father.
Ignoring her small rebellion, he reigned in his temper and retook his seat. In a hard voice that brook no argument, he stated, “For the good of the clan, you will do your duty and mate with a member of the Blackwell clan. This will solidify the treaty as well as ensure the future of both clans, uniting us as one. Now, I have made my decision. If you have a problem with it, I suggest you keep it to yourself. Understood?” He narrowed his eyes at his daughter and waited for her response, as if daring her to object. When she nodded her head, he continued. “Good. I will be calling a clan meeting this evening to inform everyone of the treaty. You will be there and I expect you to be on your best behavior.” King Marcus turned to face the computer on his desk in front of him and got back to work drafting the treaty contract for both he and Queen Dominique to sign, dismissing Leah from his office as surely as if he had yelled, “Get out!”
Leah stood up and left the office. It was obvious that she wasn't going to win this argument, so she wasn't going to waste her breath. She loved her father dearly, but he could be a real asshole sometimes. Ever since her mom died ten years ago, her father hadn't been the same. He used to be so different, more open with his affections. When her mom died, it was like he buried his heart with her. She tried to be understanding. Her mom was her father's world, his soul mate. Losing her was like losing a vital part of himself.
Three months later... The large hall at the Sullivan mansion was beautifully decorated in emerald green and white with gold accents. Francesca had helped decorate the place similarly to how she had set up for Ray and Leah’s mating ceremony. White flowers and emerald green table cloths adorned each table. The center pieces that had been used for their mating ceremony were being reused. And there were gold plated fairy lights hung around the room. Needless to say, the place looked stunning. Leah and Ray both beamed for the camera as they got their wedding pictures taken. They started with pictures by themselves, then pictures as a couple, and lastly they took pictures with friends and family. Leah’s favorites were the pictures of them with Hannah and the pictures of her father with both Hannah and Carter. She could already picture framing them and hanging them on their living room wall. The wedding ceremony had been beautiful. A part of Leah had been a little disappointed that her fam
Leah sat in her old living room on the couch next to her brother Gabriel, and watched as her father played games with Hannah and Carter. She had brought the children so that her father could spend some time getting to know them. It had been a while since he had really spent time with children, so she felt it was a good idea. And the pups had so much fun riding on her dragon’s back to get there. Leah had been nervous since no one has ever rode her dragon’s back before, and she was afraid they would fall off. For that reason, it ended up taking twice as long to get there than it usually would have had she been flying alone. She took a sip of her tea and turned to look at her brother. “So... tell me what you think about everything. Are you nervous to meet your intended?”Gabriel sighed. “A little bit, I guess. I just hope she doesn’t turn out to be as bad as Theo was. I don’t think I can run away from this no that I’ve commit myself to this.”Leah chuckled. “Yeah, and I don’t think Queen
Marcus’s large dragon with ivory colored scales circled the pack ground a few times trying to see if he could locate his daughter, but he couldn’t. However, he did notice a tall, muscular man with dark hair standing in front of the large pack house staring at him as if waiting for something. Marcus wondered if maybe the man was Ray Winston, the alpha of the pack.He had never met Ray, but he had heard a lot of things about the man. Ray was said to be a good and fair alpha, and his pack loved him. If all that was true, then Marcus could understand why Leah had fell for him. There was nothing more attractive to his daughter than a person who loved and protected their family. Marcus lowered his dragon to the ground, shifting to his human form right before he landed.Ray had noticed the dragon circling his lands a few moments ago. He didn’t want to alarm anyone in case this was another one of Leah’s clan members coming to make sure she was okay. So he just stood and watched the dragon, wa
Marcus sat in his office seething with rage. He was meeting with Queen Dominique to discuss other possible solutions to their situation, but the woman was pissing him off. When he had told her about what happened with Theo and Leah, the insufferable woman had just laughed it off. She had the audacity to claim it wasn’t her problem. That she wasn’t responsible for one of her own clan members going rogue.Marcus leaned forward in his seat, glaring daggers at the woman. “What do you mean, you’re not responsible for his actions? He was your clan member and he attacked my daughter!”Dominique narrowed her own eyes. “No, Marcus. From my understanding, he attacked the wolves. Your out of control daughter just saw fit to interfere. It’s not my fault if she ended up getting hurt.”Marcus slammed his fist down on his desk. “He should not have attacked the wolves either!”She smirked. “Regardless. What happens to the wolves is not your business.” She crossed her legs, looking completely satisfie
The four large male dragons circled the area a few more times before making their descent. The pack watched in awe as the four slowly made their way down, shifting to human right before hitting the ground. They stood silently staring at Leah, neither them nor she saying a word. Ray studied the four males thoughtfully, wondering who they were. Three of them were tall, with blond hair and grey eyes. They looked so alike that they could have been triplets. The fourth one, however, was slightly taller than the rest, with red hair and grey eyes. Ray paused for a moment. While the first three males looked different, the fourth one looked an awful lot like Leah. Ray sighed in relief. These must be her brothers.Leah confirmed Ray’s thoughts. “Everyone, these are my brothers.” She pointed to the three blonds, pointing them out one by one. “This is Max. Then there’s Tristan, and Axel.” Last she pointed to the red haired man. “And last but not least, there’s Gabriel.”While Leah was introducin
Leah woke to the sounds of construction work being done. With all the damage Theo had done with the fires, she figured the pack members were working on rebuilding the pack house. She didn’t know how long she had been asleep, but she felt well rested, so she figured it was time to get up and rejoin civilization.Yawning, she stretched her arms above her head. When she went to remove the covers from on top of her, she froze at the sight ov a small head of curly blond hair nestled on the pillow next to her. She scrunched her brows in confusion, pulling the covers down to get a good look at whoever was lying in the bed next to her. To her shock, it was a small female pup who looked to be about three or four years old. The baby girl was adorable, but Leah was very confused about who this pup was.“Uh, Ray?” She reached out to him through their mate link and he responded immediately.“Yes, my love?”She smiled at the endearment. “I just woke up and noticed that you weren’t here, but instead
