Chapter 2

Author: Moore
After obtaining the token, I let out a long breath of relief.

Once the decision was made, I actually felt strangely at peace.

The Moon Goddess' Sacred Ground was extremely far from the pack. Before setting out, I had to prepare the medicinal herbs, cloak, and ember stone needed for the journey.

By the time I returned to Moon Shadow Manor, the sky had already gone completely dark.

The moment I stepped into the hall, I heard the bright laughter of a young she-wolf coming from inside.

Willow was sitting by the fireplace in a cream dress, her slender ankles resting beside a fur-lined chair. In her arms was a snow fox cub. And Ronan was half-crouching before her, tending the scratches on her fingers.

It had been a long time since I'd seen such a gentle, patient expression on his face.

Hearing the sound, Ronan looked up. A flicker of unease passed through his eyes, and he hurriedly explained to me, "Freya, Willow came to see you off."

I stood there quietly and calmly.

Willow immediately got to her feet, looking somewhat flustered. "Freya, don't get this the wrong way. I just heard you were going to the Onyx Wolf pack alone and thought it was too dangerous, so I wanted to come see you.

"If you don't like me being here, I'll leave right now. I know an Omega like me shouldn't casually enter your territory—it's only normal that you'd look down on me."

As she spoke, the rims of her eyes reddened slightly.

Ronan frowned and stepped forward, shielding Willow behind him. "Freya, having her here was my idea. Don't take it out on her. Willow is one of your few friends. I just wanted her to send you well-wishes on your long journey."

My breath caught in my throat. A moment later, I slowly lowered my head and said softly, "How could that be? I welcome her here."

Even though we both knew that Willow was not—and would never be—my friend.

Willow was visibly taken aback. She clearly hadn't expected me to react this way.

Ronan frowned slightly too, his gaze resting on my face as though searching for something. "Freya, what's wrong with you today?"

In the past, I would have firmly demanded he keep his distance from Willow. Ever since she appeared, it was something I'd often asked of him. It was also one of the rare things that had even made us argue.

But now, it seemed I no longer cared about anything.

Ronan felt a prickle of unease.

Just then, Willow walked over and very naturally linked her arm through Ronan's.

She tilted her face up, her voice soft and coaxing. "Ronan, have you forgotten you promised to take me to the night market tonight? The Dark Market only opens once a year, and the moonstone necklace I want will only appear tonight."

As she spoke, she even deliberately swayed Ronan's arm. "And you also promised you'd help me pick out a dagger fit for an Omega to use for protection."

Ronan looked down at her, his expression visibly softening. "Don't worry. I haven't forgotten."

Having said that, he tentatively looked up at me. "By the way, Freya, the journey to the Onyx Wolf pack is long. Do you need me to bring anything back for you from the Dark Market?"

I shook my head indifferently. "No. I've already prepared everything."

He took a step closer to me, his towering Alpha presence bearing down. "Freya, are you angry at me because of Willow?"

I lifted my head and looked at him. I'd loved him for over ten years, so much so that even a single word from him could make me happy for days.

But now, I suddenly found him somewhat unfamiliar. Thus, I smiled faintly at him and said, "Of course not. Didn't you say I'm your Luna? Since you're my fated mate, how could I possibly get angry over such a small thing?"

Ronan paused, clearly caught off guard. For some reason, the unease inside him didn't dissipate because of my words.

However, Willow was already hurrying him along. "Ronan, any later, and the Dark Market will close."

He pushed the thought aside and said to me with a hint of apology, "Freya, once I'm done helping Willow pick out her weapon, I'll come straight back and help you pack. Be good and wait for me at home, alright?"

He softened his voice as he added, "I'll personally see you off as you leave the pack the day after tomorrow."

And with that, he left the manor with Willow.

I remained standing where I was for a long time as I watched the two of them walk away side by side.

Only when the hall fell silent again did I return to my room.

I gathered all the gifts Ronan had given me over the past ten-plus years and packed them into a box. Then, I left it in the corner.

It wasn't until I'd finished packing all my things that I realized Ronan hadn't returned.

At the first light of dawn, I picked up my luggage and left Moon Shadow Manor alone, heading to the temporary residence Lucian had arranged for me.

There, in that private place where no one would disturb me, I'd prepare myself for the journey to the Moon Goddess' Sacred Ground.

The Moon Goddess' Sacred Ground was warded against all the violence and rancor of the mortal world. Even the highest-ranking Alpha, should he force his way in, would be hurled back violently by the barrier. However, Ronan refused to admit defeat, let alone forgive himself.Driven by an obsessive need to see me, he threw himself day after day against the barrier, pleading until every shred of his pride and dignity was gone.Seeing that his obsession ran too deep and that he continued to persist relentlessly, Lyra came to ask what I wanted to do about him. She knew I had long since let go of the past.Rather than let Ronan keep clinging to his obsession outside the barrier, it would be better to make an exception and open the barrier to let him in. Once he witnessed my current state, all his lingering attachments would be completely severed, and from then on, he would never bother me again.I nodded serenely. After all, we had 18 years of tangled history between us, and some things

Under the tight escort of the Silver Wolf unit, I traveled for days on end and finally arrived at the Moon Goddess' Sacred Ground. The moment I stepped into this place, the crescent mark on my wrist began to burn inexplicably, as if answering the call of this mysterious land.A shewolf dressed in a silver robe stood waiting for me at the entrance. Her eyes were like two full moons—calm and unfathomably deep."You've finally come," she spoke with a serenity that made it seem as though she'd been waiting for a very long time."Who are you?" I asked."I am the divine messenger of the Moon Goddess' Sacred Ground, Lyra Sterling."Lyra told me who she was, and then her expression turned solemn as she earnestly asked me to confirm what I truly wanted."I already know about your past. Have you truly thought this through? Once you officially step into the Moon Goddess' Sacred Ground, all your emotional bonds will be completely severed, and nothing from your past can ever be restored."I

Willow belatedly realized what she'd just said, her face draining to a ghastly white. She scrambled forward on her hands and knees, clutching at the hem of Ronan's pants."Alpha Ronan, none of what I just said was true. Please don't hold it against me," she begged in a voice filled with regret. However, Ronan didn't spare her another glance. Instead, he simply looked up toward the door and said in a firm, resounding voice, "Pass the order down—revoke Willow's qualification to enter the pack."Strip her of her place in the Moon Goddess Festival. Without my permission, no one is to grant her a pass to approach the inner city."Willow's head shot up, all color draining completely from her face. This was an outright banishment from the circle of power. For an Omega who depended on the strong for survival, it was nothing short of destroying her future. She finally broke down, shrieking, "Ronan, you can't do this to me! You were the one who pursued me first! You can't blame everything

The Alpha dominance in the air was so thick it was almost tangible.Willow's face paled, but she still forced herself to put on a hurt expression. "Ronan, what are you talking about? How could I possibly do such a thing?"With red-rimmed eyes, she walked over and reached out to tug at his sleeve. "I know you're upset that Freya is missing, but you can't just blame everything on me."But in the next second, Ronan violently flung her hand away. He stared at her intently, the rage he'd been suppressing for days surging in his eyes."The memory stone from the Dark Market tavern, the attendants at the taming grounds, and the Omegas you bribed—need I go on?"Willow's breath caught sharply in her throat. She'd never imagined Ronan would have already investigated to this extent. The room fell into sudden silence. Willow parted her lips, but not a single word of defense came out.Seeing her reaction, Ronan immediately understood everything, and the last trace of warmth in his eyes vanish

"How do you know about that?" Ronan practically blurted out.Lucian's expression turned utterly cold. "You really thought you could fool everyone with those stupid stunts of yours? You faked betrayal, pretended to be injured to send Freya away, and even gave her Luna Ring to Willow! "I used to think you were just young and reckless, but I never imagined you could sink this low!"Ronan's breathing turned sharp and uneven as a panic unlike anything he'd ever known surged through him uncontrollably."Does Freya know about all this too?"Lucian looked at him quietly with eyes that seemed to see right through him.Ronan's mind went blank with a deafening roar. It suddenly hit him—the eerily calm way I'd been before leaving, how I'd stopped vying for his attention, and the quiet resignation in my gaze whenever our eyes met.His chest felt as though it'd been seized in a brutal grip, the pain so sharp he could barely breathe."Where exactly did Freya go? I'm going to find her and bri

  • Leaving Luna: Chosen by the Moon Goddess   Chapter 4

After hanging up the phone, Ronan was struck by an odd, fleeting sense of emptiness. But before he could dwell on it, Willow's hurt voice came from behind him, "Ronan, do you regret staying here with me?"Ronan frowned and replied, "Freya is about to set off for the Onyx Wolf pack, and I'm just a little worried about her."Willow stood at the edge of the woods with red-rimmed eyes. She looked at him with big, sad puppy eyes and said, "Tonight is the full moon. All the young werewolves will be going into the woods for the night revelry."But you've been on the phone with Freya this whole time, so I thought you didn't want to spend the night with me anymore."The irritation that had been brewing in Ronan eased somewhat at her words. He raised a hand and rubbed his forehead.I was just going to the Onyx Wolf pack. I'd been so obedient since I was little, and I liked him so much, so there was no way I would actually leave him. Once I was back, the two of us would still be just like b
