Thalia pushed the car door open as she answered, "It's rented by the way. Does that make you feel any better?"

Landon was still thinking about what she said when she opened the back door, ready to lift Toby out.

"I got it." He stretched out an arm to stop her.

He opened the door himself, shielding Toby from the wind with care, even shrugging off his jacket to wrap it around Toby. He moved with such practiced ease that if she didn't know he was single, she might have thought he'd already raised a few kids of his own.

As he turned, he said flatly, "I've been single. I just spent a lot of time helping out with my sisters' kids."

She followed behind.

The warm, yellow light stretched their shadows long and intertwined, creating an intimate and cozy scene. Her voice was low. "You don't have to keep stressing that you're single."

He stopped and stared at her fixedly as he asked, "Why not? Is the one who married first somehow more honorable?"
