After my mate, Drew Bruce, vanished from the pack warzone, I cared for his gravely ill parents in his stead for three years. In the end, he returns with his wolf missing and a young she-wolf by his side. He begs for the Alpha King to break our mate bond. Drew taunts me, "Jenny Watson, your peaceful life in the pack is thanks to my bloodshed on the battlefield. You'll never be someone like Sherry Lowe, an outstanding physiotherapist, who can fight alongside me. "It's a good thing our mind link has disappeared ever since I lost my wolf. Being with Sherry made me realize how dull you are. "You're useless. If it weren't for the Moon Goddess' guidance, you would've never been worthy of being my mate." When his parents find out, instead of talking him out of it, they fully support his decision. They completely disregard the dedication and sincerity I showed them over three years. Heartbroken, I turn and leave for the field hospital. He has no idea that I come from a long line of healers. When I earn the title of chief field healer with nothing but my own skill, he goes mad with regret.

Chapter 1

My mate, Drew Bruce, had been missing for three years, and I exhausted my wealth to care for his parents. When he returned, there was an Omega she-wolf by his side. He wanted to break our mate bond for her.

"Jenny, I've already spoken with the Alpha King about breaking our bond. He said he'd think about it, but I'll make sure he agrees," Drew said.

My hands were clenched underneath my sleeves. However, I kept myself composed.

"Since the war began, only the vulnerable remain in our pack. If Sherry is truly the kind-hearted, skilled physiotherapist you claim she is, why isn’t she out there saving lives instead of tearing our family apart?" I shot back.

A spark of anger flashed in Drew's eyes.

"No, Sherry never asked anything of me. I'm the one who wants to end things with you."

I didn't move a muscle. "Does Sherry know that she's the other she-wolf?"

Drew frowned. "Why are you being so rude?

"What do you mean by 'the other she-wolf?' I've spent my last three years by her side. We share a connection. I traded all my achievements on the battlefield to get the Alpha King's permission to break our bond. Everything I've done has nothing to do with Sherry. You don't get to insult her."

I worked hard for the past three years, only for my mate to cash in on his accomplishments and break our bond.

What a joke!

I looked at him coldly. "Do you even remember I'm your mate? The Moon Goddess led our wolves to find each other."

He looked at me and said indifferently, "Blades know no mercy in war. I was stabbed by a silver blade. Our enemies contracted a witch to pour a potent corrosive laced with silver dust on my wound. I was fortunate to have others get me out of there in time.

"But the treatment didn't work, and my wolf was killed. I fought for the pack's honor and have no regrets."

His expression suddenly softened as he turned to look out the window.

"After I was injured, it was Sherry who tried her best to care for me. She's the best physiotherapist at the field hospital. I don't know if I would've survived if not for her.

"Even though I lost my wolf, she still looks at me with admiration. She encourages me. She's unlike any other she-wolf I've ever known. Without the interference of my wolf's pull, I finally understood what love is. I love her more than anything."

A wave of rage surged in my chest. That anger got stuck halfway up like bile, and I felt sick to my stomach.

Drew, an ordinary warrior in the pack, didn't have much of an income. He only made 2,000 dollars a month.

Drew's parents, Richard Bruce and Talia Ceele, had no savings and never got insured when they were younger. Now, in their old age, they were unable to earn an income through labor.

Two thousand dollars was all the family of three had to live on.

After Drew went missing, his parents only received a meager monthly stipend of a few hundred dollars from the pack. They were also given an insignificant perk—they could skip the line when buying medicine.

I was already bonded to Drew at the time. So, I took full responsibility for caring for his parents.

I gave them 5,000 dollars every month for daily expenses. I also arranged for fresh meat to be delivered every week.

With that in mind, I pulled a strained smile and asked stiffly, "Have you told your parents?"

Drew smiled gently. "My parents are open-minded. I'm sure they'll support my decision.

"Mother used to suffer from headaches and chest pains. So, I've asked Sherry to take care of them."

My face went blank. "When news of your disappearance reached us, Talia fainted. I paid a steep price to hire Jones, the most renowned healer, to treat her.

"I cared for around the clock for six months. That's how she recovered."

Drew nodded. "With Sherry around, my mother will definitely recover faster. She won't have to suffer for the rest of her life."

What did he mean by "suffer"? Was he blaming me?

It was only natural that Talia would recover. I had been spending 8,000 dollars a month on moongrass to nurse her back to health. Of course, a sickly wolf being fed three years' worth of tonics would be healthy enough to run several miles with ease.

Drew gave me a sympathetic look.

"The Alpha King hasn't approved of it yet, but to spare Sherry the heartache. We should go ahead and divide the assets now."

He spoke without a hint of shame. "You've worked hard these past three years. I'll make sure you get the bigger share of the assets. I'm sure Sherry will agree."

There was no hiding the scorn on my face.

He left for the battlefield the day after we bonded as mates, and no one had heard from him after he went missing.

Drew called it a home, but in truth, it was only in name. Every expense over the past three years came out of my personal finances.

And now, he was standing in my house and talking to me about splitting the assets.
