Chapter 2

Author: Rani M
My wolf was furious.

I took a deep breath to fight back the howl threatening to escape me.

Judging by Drew's behavior, he had no idea that during his three-year absence, he ended up with a younger brother who constantly needed financial support. His name was Leo Bruce.

I stared at Drew. "You've never truly understood all I've done for you. Do you know—"

A flicker of impatience crossed his eyes as he cut me off. "Haven't I already thanked you enough for everything you've done? Right now, I want to be with Sherry. She's the one who matters most to me."

I looked into his eyes as the crushing weight of betrayal came over me. "You've never truly valued the bond we shared, Drew."

I forced myself to calm down. Drew told me all that while I was out submitting Leo's enrollment form for the Intermediate Wolf Cub Academy.

He didn't seem to know that the residence Richard and Talia lived in was mine.

I watched him walk away, but I didn't go home immediately. Instead, I headed straight to the foundation to sort through my assets.

Over the past three years, I spent hundreds of thousands in cash and also provided his family with a house to live in.

Fortunately, the storefronts and land hadn't been touched.

I refused to believe Richard and Talia felt no gratitude for everything I'd done these past three years. I gathered the stack of contracts and headed home.

I came home, carrying warmth in my chest, only for my heart to go cold the moment I saw who was inside.

The table was lavishly set. The whole family was laughing happily with a woman seated among them.

No one had waited for me to eat.

The laughter stopped abruptly as I entered, and everyone turned to me. Drew was also frowning.

In my mind, my wolf howled in fury.

I had always assumed Drew's parents were in the dark about his intentions. It turned out they knew exactly what was going on.

Leo was the first to react. He came dashing into my arms like a cannonball.

I stroked his fur—sleek from my care—and said nothing.

Talia stood up and guided me to the table.

"Drew is home, Jenny." She was beaming from ear to ear. "You've held this home together on your own. If it weren't for you, we would have starved to death. Richard and I always knew you were a blessing to this family."

She spoke in a breezy tone, but her eyes never once settled on me. Instead, her gaze stayed locked on the roasted antelope.

"I know things have been tough for a few years. You didn't have anyone to help you. But now that Drew is back, you should relax. With a man around, you won't have to worry about all those menial tasks. You don't have to manage the finances either. Isn't doing all that tiring?"

She took Sherry's hand and placed it on mine. "This is Sherry, an exceptional physiotherapist.

"She grew up on the battlefield. She's rough around the edges and isn't quite as meticulous as you are. Try to get along with her, alright?"

Rage surged through me in an instant. What was Talia trying to say?

I coldly pulled my hand away. "Among wolves, it's always been one male and one female forming a pair. When did it become acceptable for three to live together?"

Talia's smile didn't falter. "Why would you think that way? Richard and I have always treated you like our daughter. Let Drew and Sherry work out their affairs. From now on, you'll live with us. No need to concern yourself with them."

I was appalled by her audacity.

She was in favor of Drew and me breaking off our mating bond, but didn't want me to leave.

I knew it was because I had no family of my own. I could also financially support this entire household on my own.

Pack wars were a constant occurrence, and wolves without family support had a hard time surviving.

But that didn't include me. I was wealthy enough to hire powerful wolves for protection at any time.

They assumed a lone she-wolf like me was vulnerable. That was why they used such agreeable language to claim my wealth.

A sarcastic laugh escaped me.

"I have parents of my own. And they don't treat me like a maid or an ATM." I swept my gaze across the table.

The centerpiece was the antelope—the largest one hunted by the pack's warriors before winter. I paid 3,000 dollars to acquire and save it for the lean winter months.

When it was delivered, Talia sang its praises.

She had never tasted antelope this good. Drew's meager salary couldn't possibly afford it.

She hid the antelope away that very night. Not even I knew where she had stored it. But now, it was out in the open to entertain the mistress.

Talia flushed at my words. Her breaths grew uneven and labored.

Sherry stood up and supported Talia. "So, you're Drew's useless mate?"

"I once financially supported Richard, Talia, and Leo. That support included daily expenses, healthcare, education, and housing. It amounted to 644 thousand dollars. I demand a full reimbursement and request to break my mate bond with Drew Bruce. I also ask to suspend any rights the Bruce family holds over my assets."The jury was in an uproar the moment the words left me.Talia shot to her feet, her voice shrill. "You're trying to bankrupt the entire family! You're ruthless! You have no heart!"The color drained from Drew's face. "Can't you cut me some slack, Jenny? I admit… We've made a lot of mistakes. But you said it yourself. We're fated mates!""That was when your wolf was still intact." I looked up at him, my voice tinged with ice. "You admitted it yourself. Your wolf is gone, and your feelings have changed. This bond no longer needs to exist."Talia sneered. "You're a she-wolf. Are you turning your back on us now that you've gained some notoriety? We never forced you to do

I hesitated for a moment, my finger hovering over the screen for a long while before I finally picked up the call."Jenny…" I could hear the slight tremor in Leo's voice as it came through the receiver.I said nothing.I had single-handedly raised the three-year-old pup and shouldered the cost of baby formula. My friends all advised me to walk away from the Bruce family's mess.It was not as if I never wavered. My family was wiped out during an enemy attack back when I was still a child. My parents and brother shielded me with their bodies to ensure my survival. After that bloody massacre, I desperately longed for a home. So, when my wolf awakened and recognized Drew, I didn't hesitate to form a mate bond with him, even though he had nothing to his name.I naively believed that hard work alone would improve this family.Instead, he rushed to the battlefield on the day of our wedding and vanished for three years. Then, Leo came along. He used to be a pup who could make everyone

I turned on my heel and left the residence. As I stepped out the door, I pulled out my phone and dialed Noah Law Firm, the most prestigious legal team in the Southern region. The law firm was also one of the organizations I had quietly funded in the past."This is Jenny Watson," I said calmly but clearly. "I'm invoking the property protection clause. I intend to also file a lawsuit to recover the expenditures and assets I've invested in Drew's family."The account should cover proof of property ownership, educational expenses, living costs, and medical bills. And most important of all, the title deed to the mansion."The mansion was once my parents' home. I was determined to take it back. The voice on the phone readily agreed. "Understood, Ms. Watson. The house is your premarital asset. The Bruce family are simply tenants. If you request it, they must vacate the premises. We'll get you everything that's rightfully yours."Richard, Talia, Leo, and even Drew, who always mouthed off

I could see the challenge in Sherry's eyes."She-wolves from the countryside are so uncivilized." She turned her nose up at me as she studied me. "You've got no parents or siblings. If Richard and Talia hadn't formed a family unit to protect you, all your wealth would've been stolen away." I smiled mockingly. "Exceptional female healers are a dime a dozen. I always thought you were someone worth respecting. Turns out, you're just another mate-stealing she-wolf."Talia stumbled back and sat down, clutching at her chest. Before Sherry could respond, the silent Leo suddenly leaped out of my arms and clung to Talia's leg. He bared his teeth at me."Jenny, you just got home and already made Mom upset. She looks really hurt. And now, you're insulting Sherry too. You're the one who told me it's wrong to insult others. Apologize now! If you keep talking like that, I'll get my brother to kick you out!"Sherry's words didn't faze me, but seeing Leo crouched and poised to attack felt like

My mate, Drew Bruce, had been missing for three years, and I exhausted my wealth to care for his parents. When he returned, there was an Omega she-wolf by his side. He wanted to break our mate bond for her."Jenny, I've already spoken with the Alpha King about breaking our bond. He said he'd think about it, but I'll make sure he agrees," Drew said.My hands were clenched underneath my sleeves. However, I kept myself composed."Since the war began, only the vulnerable remain in our pack. If Sherry is truly the kind-hearted, skilled physiotherapist you claim she is, why isn’t she out there saving lives instead of tearing our family apart?" I shot back.A spark of anger flashed in Drew's eyes."No, Sherry never asked anything of me. I'm the one who wants to end things with you."I didn't move a muscle. "Does Sherry know that she's the other she-wolf?"Drew frowned. "Why are you being so rude?"What do you mean by 'the other she-wolf?' I've spent my last three years by her side. We
