Chapter 4

Author: Sweetie Moore
It seemed my silent treatment had driven Bianca insane. To my surprise, she didn't make a fuss and simply let me go.

I shook my head. This certainly saved me a lot of trouble.

Once my resignation was finalized, I reached into the drawer and pulled out a divorce agreement. It had been signed a few days before Bianca went on her trip. When I'd placed it in front of her, she had signed it without even looking at it.

Surprised, I had asked her, "Are you sure you don't want to read through the terms before signing it?"

Bianca had flashed me a sweet smile. "I don't need to do that. I know you'd never do anything to hurt me."

Meeting her gentle gaze, my heart skipped a beat. For a moment, I had thought I still held a place in her heart.

I was just about to say something when Jesse barged into the room, whining, "We're supposed to be going to the theater. Why are you still working? I'm counting to three; if you don't come out by then, I'm not going anymore!"

Being rushed was Bianca's ultimate pet peeve. Even when I asked her gently, she would lose her temper.

Yet, when Jesse yelled at her, not only did she not get upset, she even ran over to him with a beaming smile while grabbing her bag. "Don't be mad. I'm done with my work. Let's go."

As it turned out, Bianca hadn't signed it out of trust in me; she had just rushed through it so she wouldn't miss her movie date with Jesse. After being her husband for five years, in the end, my place in her heart wasn't even comparable to that of a mere assistant. How ridiculous it all was.

I lowered my gaze. Since she no longer loved me, I would grant her her freedom. Clutching the divorce agreement, I made my way to the courthouse.

"Mr. Wright, I need to confirm that your marriage is beyond repair before I can approve the divorce."

I nodded, pulled out my phone, and called Bianca. I knew she was still fuming and wouldn't pick up. Sure enough, just as I expected, my calls were declined over a dozen times.

Having verified the situation, the clerk approved my application and stamped the paperwork.

After waiting all afternoon, the divorce certificate was finally issued. I took a photo of it and sent it to Kate.

Kate was absolutely thrilled, insisting on dropping everything at work to come pick me up and take me home. My first instinct was to tell her it wasn't necessary.

However, after picking up on the sheer excitement in her voice, I couldn't bring myself to reject her kindness. I immediately got into my car and drove back home.

As soon as I reached the front door, a burst of lively laughter and joyful chatter drifted out from inside the house.

I gently pushed the door open and noticed that Bianca and Jesse, who were supposed to be traveling out of town, had returned. The house was filled with colorful balloons, and a massive, ten-tier birthday cake stood prominently next to the dining table.

Jesse, wearing a birthday hat, smiled and said, "I heard you've never once thrown a birthday party for Kieran, Bia. I really am honored!"

Bianca waved her hand dismissively. "He's a broke loser. What's there to celebrate for him? That would just be a waste of money.

"You're different. You ditched your family to spend your birthday with us. We're the ones who are honored to have you!"

My hand froze on the doorknob. I thought I was over her, but a dull ache still pierced through my chest.

Throughout our five-year marriage, she always conveniently had a business trip scheduled whenever my birthday rolled around. Bianca would claim she had a terrible memory and promise to make it up to me the following year, and I had foolishly believed every single word.

Now, the ugly truth was staring me in the face. She hadn't forgotten at all; she merely thought a nobody like me didn't deserve a party, and she had missed it on purpose.

I chose not to walk in. Safe to say, they were too wrapped up in each other to notice I was even there.

Bianca's best friends gleefully presented their gifts while badmouthing me. "Kieran's so useless. He's basically a kept man who can't even handle a minor project oversight. He even made Bia cut her vacation short and come back to deal with it. A deadbeat like him deserves to be divorced!"

"In terms of background and ability, he can't even hold a candle to Jesse."

"I can tell Jesse has a thing for you, Bia. Why don't you guys just get together?"

Bianca pursed her lips. "Forget it. He's been by my side through thick and thin. If I dump him now, people will talk."

She made it sound like she was standing up for me. Yet, she conveniently left out the fact that over 90% of the company's deals had actually been closed by me.

I wasn't a kept man. In fact, it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that the only reason she was living this life of luxury today was entirely because of me.

After hearing Bianca's accusations, a friend beside me who knew the truth couldn't contain themselves anymore. "You're the last person on earth who has the right to say that! In order to build a life with you, he gave up a life of luxury and cut ties with his family. "If not, do you seriously think someone of your status would ever have been accepted by a prominent family? He gave up so much for you and stuck by your side through thick and thin, yet you not only failed him, but you also have the nerve to stand here and spout nonsense!"As soon as his rebukes sank in, Bianca shuddered. Her eyes misted over as she looked at me affectionately. "I know I messed up, Kie."The very next second, she dropped to her knees in front of me and pleaded, "I admit it was wrong of me to favor him. I was muddle-headed and lost my mind for a moment. Can you please give me another chance? "I'll definitely make it up to you. I swear I'll never treat you like that again!"Seeing Bianca bawling her e

I remembered it like it was yesterday. That was five years ago, right at the start of our marriage. Bianca and I had been commuting home from the office on my birthday. I'd casually pointed at a cheap figurine and said it looked nice. In truth, I'd wanted her to pay a little more attention to me. I had been hoping against hope that she might actually remember it was my birthday. But her head had been buried in her work. After looking up for a moment, she responded half-heartedly, "Yeah, it's nice. Let's head home first. I still have some work to take care of."I had nodded in disappointment. I had even fantasized that she might be doing what people did in TV shows. Perhaps she was acting like she didn't know anything, when in fact she'd already planned a surprise for me at home. Yet, the moment I flipped the light switch, there was absolutely nothing. Later on, she'd apologized and confessed she had forgotten it was my birthday. However, she hadn't even bothered to make it up

In the video, Jesse was on one knee, holding a bouquet of flowers and proposing. Surrounded by a crowd chanting, "Say yes! Say yes!", Bianca bashfully accepted both the ring and the flowers. I couldn't help but remember when I'd wanted to give her a romantic proposal, she told me it was too embarrassing. She had literally told me that if I ever pulled a stunt like that, she wouldn't marry me. In the end, I was the one who backed down. Looking back on it now, it seemed she hadn't wanted me to propose in public simply because she thought I was too embarrassing to be seen with. As soon as the video was shared, Bianca spawned in the chat and snapped, "Delete it, all of you! If you have nothing better to do than gossip during work hours, pack your bags and leave! Quit slacking off and gossiping here!"Her sudden outburst made everyone smack their foreheads in realization. There were so many people in the group chat that they had completely forgotten that Bianca was in it too. This wa

Dad let out a soft sigh. "Let the boy eat first. He hasn't eaten a thing all day." Mom smacked her forehead. "Oh, right, would you look at that? I've become muddle-headed. Let's eat! "We'll go for the check-up after dinner. Look at you; you have no idea how to take care of yourself! How did you lose so much weight?" Surrounded by my parents' love and concern, a lump formed in my throat, and my tears finally spilled over. In the eyes of my family, my safety and well-being mattered most. Yet, in Bianca's eyes, everything else took precedence over me. The contrast between those who truly cared about me and those who didn't had been glaringly obvious all along. I had just been too love-struck to see them. Now, I finally saw reality for what it was. Fortunately, it wasn't too late. After dinner, Mom and Dad rushed me to the hospital to get a full-body checkup. Once they confirmed that I was fine and just needed plenty of rest, they finally let out a sigh of relief. …The foll

As soon as I emerged, they surrounded me. I couldn't help but chuckle, shaking my head. "Save it. I can't hold a candle to Jesse. I can't possibly accept such high praise from you all." An awkward silence instantly fell over them. Bianca panicked and nervously asked me, "How much did you hear?" "From the moment you called me a broke nobody and said I didn't deserve to celebrate my birthday. I heard every single word after that. It's hilarious, really. All these years, I actually bought your bullshit, believing you were just too busy with work to make it. Turns out, you just thought throwing me a birthday party was a waste of money." But how much could a birthday cake possibly cost? I surrendered my monthly salary and all my commissions to her, yet I wasn't even allowed to have a damn birthday cake? To make matters worse, she couldn't even bring herself to wire me a little more money. She only sent "massive" amounts under 15 dollars each time to placate me whenever she did som

  • Left to Die, I Ended Our Marriage   Chapter 6

Struggling to process the massive bombshell, Bianca gaped at me. "She's your older sister? You're the scion of the Wrights, the wealthiest family in the country?"Bianca's friends couldn't believe their ears. All of them immediately erupted. "You must've made a mistake! Jesse's your brother.""Say something, Jesse! Didn't you tell us that you're the scion of the Wright family?""Could it be that… the Wrights have two sons? Are you two actually brothers?" In an instant, their minds conjured up an entire high-society soap opera, wondering if Jesse was my half-brother. After all, why else couldn't he carry the Wright family name? Jesse hadn't expected the truth to come out like this either. He looked at me, utterly stupefied. It had never crossed his mind that I was the true scion of the Wright family. For the last six months, he had been using his fake identity to lord it over me. Looking back on it now, he was like a clown. Faced with their interrogation, Jesse didn't make a
