ALPHA HAKAN KNOX

Back to present

Skye was given the decision of stepping out as her parents and Hakan’s family discussed things once lunch ended and with how things were going, she decided to step out. Only when she was led to the gardens was she able to let go relax and breathe freely. The tension inside the tea room of the big house was more than enough to suffocate those present.

She had wished that she could take her elder twin with her but seeing as the matter concerns her, it would seem rude that she leaves. Skye was able to enjoy a couple of seconds of silence before her mind wandered back to the situation at hand.

“What had you gotten yourself into Skye Vailant? You were supposed to finish college, get a job, and travel the world. Now, depending on how the conversation goes, you’ll be either free or caged.” A sigh escaped Skye’s lips as she allowed herself to fall on the wide patch of grass as her eyes stared up at her namesake.

“Is marrying me really that terrible?” A deep, baritone voice thundered through her entire system as the question echoed throughout the entire garden. Skye instantly shot up from where she was laying down, her vision darkening at the sudden movement, a hard set of arms held her body as it attempted to fall back down the ground.

Skye immediately pushed herself away once she had her vision back, walking a couple of steps away from the towering man, sky blue eyes meeting up with the Alpha’s black ones. The man’s impressive presence was ordering her to back down, to avert her eyes, and to show submission, but Skye was not raised that way.

Their mother was the main decision-maker in their household, and their whole clan was a matriarchal family, even from the start. So, if the man in front of her was expecting her to bow down to his will, he had one thing coming for him.

“Considering that I had my future planned and have it all ruined, I would say yes, marrying you would be terrible, Hakan. Well, marrying anyone really, I haven’t been thinking about marriage at all, but now my future will be depending on how the conversation goes between your parents and mine.”

“ALPHA Hakan and it’s really not my fault that there’s a fifty-chance that you would be wed to me. My parents would never allow me to get married to your sister whilst she carrying a child of a different man. So, it will be just you marrying me for both our families' sake or we both agree to cut off this wedding.”

That stopped Skye from the barrage of profanities that wanted to escape her mouth regarding the man in front of her. She knew full well that no matter what, their family couldn’t afford to lose the cooperation. Their family was in it for the sake of protection that the huge pack and tightened security of Hakan’s pack could bring them whilst Hakan’s family was using the cooperation as a reputation booster.

After all, having a Legacy Wolves was something considered a blessed line. Having married one into the family heightens the reputation and standard of a pack, Skye didn’t want to experience another wolf hunt just because their family was left defenseless, just like what happened when she was seven.

“Hakan. I will be calling you Hakan. Don’t expect me to bow down to your every whim. If we did ever marry, I will learn to respect you but I won’t bow down to your orders, just like your pack mates does. I will be your other half, placed in the same position as you do, my voice will be carried out with the same weight as yours.

“I don’t like to flaunt or use my status as someone that came from the line of the blessed, but my sister and I, grew up respecting the values and tradition of our line. We are matriarchal in nature, so I won’t simply bow down and show submissiveness. I am not a submissive nor an omega, and I will never be one.”

Hakan watched as Skye turned around and walked away, not even giving him a parting glance. If Hakan was a lesser man, his wolf would have lashed out at her, no one dared to defy him and no dares to do so. His members cower at the sight of his mere presence, not because of fear but out of respect.

So, when a headstrong woman like Skye tries to undermine his position, he had to force back his growling wolf before it lashes out at her retreating figure. If his parents were to ask for his opinion, he really didn’t mind getting married for the sake of reputation, he had built his pack and placed it on top with his own strength alone, they already have a proper reputation surrounding them.

But, he couldn’t help but be curious. He was two years ahead of the twins in college, he had seen how people flocked to the twins, and what caught his attention the most was how different Skye acted with other people and with him.

He had witnessed how Skye would usually stay behind her twin's back as the elder talked with other people and when he had asked other people regarding the twins, many said the same thing.

Zella was the kind and approachable one while Skye was cold and timid. Yet, as far as he was concerned upon seeing the twins – for the first time – and meeting them personally, people might have had their personalities confused.

Hakan might have been perceived as cold, aloof, and uncaring but he was studying his surroundings and with the way the twins’ family was acting, they were fiercely protecting both of their daughters and he knew why, with his reputation and all.

He had allowed his parents to continue the discussion on his behalf whilst he followed after Skye, genuinely curious about how the woman acted when not in front of other people, and with what he saw, it was safe to say he would be having an interesting wedded life if they did marry.
