LOCATION: CARRINGTON'S MANSION
TIME: SUNDAY DINNER TIME
"Sit back down this instant," William commanded. She looked around at the faces of the people she shared the table with, and she could tell that they were all telling one thing, and that was that she better sit down at once. She swallowed and sat down, facing her father. In as much as she always tried her best to obey him, she was not going to let him have his way this time around. This was not going to be in her favour in any way, and she could not just knowingly walk into it.
"You would listen to me, and you would do what I say," he added. She shook her head at him.
"Lila, listen to your father," Eleanor said.
"But mom..." Lila whined. She could not believe how easily her mother had switched sides. She was just definitely on her side a moment ago, but all of a sudden she was telling her to bow her head and listen to her father because apparently, he was the one who had the final say.
"There is no but here. I think it would be best if you listened to your father," Tom said for the first time that night. He had been quiet but also super grateful that his daughter was not the one being sent in there. He would definitely not be as daring as his brother to send his daughter into the camp of the enemy.
"Uncle Tom, why don't we let Amelia get married to him? I mean, she is way older than I am and she is yet to be married, I do think this would be a very great opportunity for her to finally start a family."
"Lila, why are you being so insolent?" Tom asked, slamming his palm to the table. He was not a fan of her bringing up his daughter.
"Insolent? Are you not planning to give Amelia away in marriage?" she asked now, facing her uncle. Amelia was her cousin, and she had spoiled every single wedding arrangement that had been made for her. Everyone in the family knew that she had always wanted to live an unmarried and childless life, and everyone just avoided it as if it were not really important. "What have I said that is so wrong? She should have been married at the same time that Victoria got married," she added with a shrug. She took up her spoon and scooped up a spoonful of soup and shoved it in her mouth before dropping it down aggressively to the table.
"LILA!" Willaims said calling his daughter to order. "I know that you think that you are special and big enough to do whatever you want to do, but I promise you right now and right here that if you refuse to get married to Levi Beaumont, you will lose your job as CEO and would be removed from the family registry," he said.
She knew he was not joking, but at this point, she only cared about herself so much; she was going to keep pushing; she did not know how it was going to end, and if she won, she would beat herself up if she did not fight now. "Mom Dad, if I get married to that man, I am going to have to kill him," she pressed her lips together and closed her eyes tightly before opening them. "Do you want to have to visit your daughter in jail just because you had to sell her off in marriage?"
"Sell off in marriage?" Eleanor asked, dropping her cup to the table. "You have chosen the wrong words to describe the situation, so for your own good, I would advise you to switch up the words," she said before licking her lips and leaning into the table so she could catch a glimpse of her daughter's face.
"My bad, not sell off, given to in marriage," she said, flashing a half-hearted smile at them. She looked around the room and wondered if it was worth the fight anymore. Her father was going to have his way anyway. "It is my fault for being so comfortable with the single life; maybe if I had taken time out to remind you that I was yet to be married, I would not have been the victim."
"Get ready because tomorrow you must meet up with Levi," Williams replied, ignoring her statement. This was not his choice anyway, but this was the best option for them now.
"I do not only have to marry him; I also have to meet up with him before the marriage." Why don't we just skip to the part where we get married?" she said sarcastically.
"If you do not take off that sarcasm this moment, you will regret what will happen," Willaims said in a final warning tone. He did not expect that after that she would be insolent and rude at the table. She made a sound of agreement at the back of her throat and shook her head back and forth. "I am sorry about the ruckus on the table this evening," William said, lifting up his glass and downing the entire contents of it.
"It's no worries." "It is fine." "It is something that needs to be sorted out," they murmured around the tables. They were all worried about Lila, but each of them was grateful that they were not the scapegoat being offered.
"Thank you all for being so worried about me. I do appreciate your kindness," she said, standing up. "I am done with dinner, so I will be retiring to bed now," Lila added with a frown on her face. She turned and marched out of the room in anger.
"She will get over it."
"Everything I heard? Is it true?" Lila asked, and her parents reaction was all she needed to confirm her suspicions about them. "You set fire to my place and sent someone to break into Levi's place? No wonder you were always at the site so early." Everything that had happened in the past few days began to make sense.Whenever something happened, her mom seemed to be the first on the scene, and then she was always looking for whom to blame, like she was trying to take the smoke off her before anyone could even suspect her."Can you believe it?" Lila asked, her entire face drenched in tears, as a sarcastic laugh left her lips. "I mean, I had been so hard on myself for even considering you a suspect. I never wanted to believe that my mom could ever do something so evil. I was so sure that you were only doing things to help me, and I am sure of it now. Everything you've ever done is only for yourself; none of it has ever been for me.""Why on earth did they do this?" Lila was shocked that
Levi couldn't believe that Lila was taking Jared's side, and no matter how he tried to see her side, he just couldn't. Everything about the situation pointed to him, as he ticked all the boxes. He wanted them to break up so he could have his way with Lila; he was a business associate who was also angry, so all the motive to make him the culprit was there, but Lila strongly believed that he couldn't be the one.Levi could not take the direct approach with Jared, so he hired a private investigator to tail him and find out everything about him. He was paranoid about leaving Lila alone at home."Why don't you stop working for now until we are sure we are safe?" he asked her, and she seemed to agree. He was still trying to wrap his head around why she did not think he was guilty, but he could not see what she saw."I also think that is a good idea," she had said. The security at home had doubled, and even though he was aware that his staying at home all day was not what was going to protec
Lila wanted to act as if everything was normal and began to work. She was on her way back from one of her gigs when she noticed a car following her. At first, she dismissed it as nothing. There were thousands of cars on the road, and many people were going her direction. Why would one follow her, and it was not like this was a movie; it was real life, and things like that rarely happened in real life. She made a turn at the next intersection, and the car followed. She did a few more useless turns, and the car followed as soon as she confirmed that the car was following her. Panic set in. She had no idea what to do; it was now obvious that this was a planned attack, and the words of her mother began to ring in her head. She managed to keep her fear under control and called Levi. She knew she should be calling the police, but Levi was the first person who came to mind, so she called him."Hello, pretty lady, I was about to call you. What do you want for dinner? I am about to swing by an
Levi was furious about how his security team let whoever it was that broke into the house escape. They both rushed to check the footage caught in the CCTV, but whoever had come in was well prepared, as there was no way to see the face on the footage. Their face was fully covered with a mask and dark shades. Levi had the cops come into the house at once and transfer the footage of the intruder, hoping that they would be able to catch who was behind this. "Do you think you'd be able to catch him?" Lila asked. She was afraid; it was not a coincidence that two bad episodes went one after the other. "I am sorry, but I am afraid that with the evidence on the ground, I don't think it's possible." "But you have to catch them because this is an attack." Lila could not believe that the policemen were not taking the situation seriously. "I think it's just a petty robber who came in to steal a few things," the police said, because there was no evidence that this was an attack. "But nothing
Jasmine came early after she heard what happened to Lila. Levi was finally able to leave her since he had been afraid of leaving her to herself, no matter how much she convinced him that she was okay. Levi went to talk to the detectives about the investigation and then from there to work. He knew that Jasmine was not going to let her stay all by herself."How can something so horrible happen? What did the cops say?" Jasmine asked."We are yet to hear from them and sincerely I want to hope that it is a gas leak or maybe some kind of electrical fault and not arson. I do not want to think that anyone was bold enough to go into my house and set it on fire." Lila was hoping that it was true. Since her mom had called to check on her, she settled that it could not be her."Do you have anyone in mind who you think can do something like this?""No one who would ever do something like this to me?""Jared? Maybe he was trying to scare you?"Lila shook her head. "It can't be; he came by and apolo
Lila tried to run towards her apartment, but Levi found a way to stop her before she could run right into it. "The firefighters are on it," he whispered as he held her. They both stood watching the house burn down like it was some kind of play, while the heat that radiated from the house made the entire environment too hot to stay. When the firefighters had been able to calm the fire, nothing was left of the apartment. "Did you forget to turn the gas stove off with a stew or something?" Levi asked and she shook her head."I have barely had time for myself; I have been ordering food in. I have never cooked here," she explained, meaning there was no way there could have been a leak except if it was cut open by someone.Levi could not understand why her house would just burn down, but he was sure that the firefighters would get to the end of it. Levi was sure that this was an arson attempt, but he did not want to say anything, so he did not sacrifice Lila, but she was already thinking th
