LOCATION: BEAUMONT MANSION
TIME: SUNDAY 8 PM
"You are asking me Levi Beaumont to get married to Lila Carrington?" Levi asked for the tenth time in just a few minutes. He was standing in his dad's home office. Daniel was sitting behind a huge wooden table, and Levi was standing across from it. He had been called in by his father to give him some news.
When his father asked him to come into the office after dinner, he expected anything else, but this was not on his bingo cards, and he was sure that he must have heard it all wrong. There was no way his father, Daniel Beaumont, who was the chairman of the Beaumont group, was asking him to marry a Carrington.
"Dad, Beaumont's and Carrington's do not mix; they have nerve mixed for one day," Levi said before his father could say anything. Daniel took off his glasses and let them hang from his neck with the glasses rope, dangling it gently in the air.
"They have never mixed for six generations."
"Exactly, so I am confused as to what you are implying," Levi said, pulling out one of the chairs in front of him and sitting down. When he got into the office, he was convinced that there was no way he would spend so much time in there because his father was a man of few words, so he chose not to sit even when his father asked him to, but now that he heard the reason he was summoned, he could help it; he had to sit.
"Skyline wants to do business with us," Daniel announced.
"That is wonderful news, but I do not see what this has to do with Carrington," he said, making an expression of disgust even by the sound of the name.
"They would only do business with us if we collaborate."
"I still do not see the reason why we have to get into this marriage. We do business with them all the time, even though we do not like it." Levi said. That was one of the major reasons he always had to see Lila; they were always crossing paths in this line of business; it was almost inevitable, but they had never ever thought of finishing a way to see more of each other. If he gets married to Lila, he will have to see her every day; how is he going to ever survive that?
"This project is the biggest thing that any of us have ever seen; it is the biggest thing that the country has seen, and we would be fools to let it go without finding a way to stamp our name on it," Daniel said.
"Dad, I get it; it is Skyline; we can't let this slip away, but what I still do not understand is the reason why we need to do a wedding; the project is not going to last forever, so why do I need to be joined with someone like her?" he asked.
"Williams suggested the marriage."
"And you agreed to it?" Levi asked, leaning into the table. He could swear that there was no way that was his father; he had been switched out by some alien because how could he just easily agree to a term by William just because of a deal with Skyline? They had not even been interested in Skyline before, but as soon as the Carrington family showed interest, they began to pursue it as well.
"I had to; how can I miss out on this? Don't worry, it is a contract marriage and will only last a year," Daniel said with a nod. Levi looked at his father; he could tell that a plan was forming in his head, knowing the kind of person that he was. He was sure that he would not say anything about his plan until it was fully formed.
"I understood that you had to, but must it have been marriage? Why would William Williams suggest marriage when he loves family so much he carefully curates who can get it? Don't you think that this is a bit suspicious? Don't you think he might have an ulterior plan?" Levi wondered if he was the only one worried about this. His father should not be that relaxed, though.
"He might have his own plans, but that does not mean that we do not have ours," Daniel replied with a head nod.
"I know you have your plan, but I still think that this cannot work," Levi said simply. The families were at war, but especially for him, Lila was his archnemesis; they could never be tied in marriage no matter what plots their parents were trying to do. He was sure that she would be saying the same thing as well.
"Levi, if you still have interest in being the chairman of the group, I will advise that you do as I say and can put you in charge of the Skyline project. That way, you will have a better edge at becoming the chairman." Levi heard the threat behind his father's words loud and clear. His father was saying to him, 'If you let this fall through, then I would take the company, which is your right since you are next in the succession line and I would give it to your cousins.' It was not the first time he had been such a threat, but he knew that his father was capable of doing anything that he said he would do.
"This is for you to tell me if you like it or not. This is for the family and the group, so you would do it."
"Dad, you are making this so hard for me," he said, running his hand through his hair and teasing down his face. He bent his head to the floor, thinking it through and weighing all of his emotions with the silent room. He raised his head and took a deep breath.
"I guess I really do not have a choice."
Lila had been so elated to see how viral the commercial she had done was. Everyone was complimenting her beauty, and with how many people were sharing the picture, it soon became the talk of the town."The commercial was a success," Levi said with a smile as they sat down for breakfast that morning."I see that and I think we have my beauty to thank for that" she said in a teasing voice and with a smile."I do not doubt that even for a second," Levi said, making her heart skip a beat. He was agreeing to the fact that she was good-looking. This was supposed to be a normal conversation, so she could not understand why it made her belly chime with joy. "Let's celebrate," Levi suggested when he realised the silence in the room."Celebrate?""Yes, the success of the commercial – I think it is worth celebrating.""Okay, what do you have in mind?""Maybe some fancy dinner and then we can hit the bar afterwards for some drinks? What do you think?" He asked, hoping she would not turn him down.
Levi was not thinking about anything; he could clearly tell from where he stood that Lila was uncomfortable with this man that had made his way into the room and was forcing himself on her."What are you doing?" Levi barked at him. The man seemed to take it as a challenge because he squared his shoulders and pushed out his chest as if to show he was a tad better than Levi."Talking to the pretty lady before you interrupted us," he replied. Lila was stunned at his response. He knew that Levi was still the boss and yet he wanted to go head-to-head with him? How nice, she thought to herself, taking a deep breath."And were you not taught that if a pretty lady says no, then she means no?" Levi asked. Lila could only focus her mind on where he called her pretty. Even though she knew it was for context's sake, it felt good to be called pretty by him; when the man in front of her had said it, she felt good but not as good as now with the butterflies in her stomach and the pounding of her che
Lila barely saw Levi for a week, as he always left at the crack of dawn and got back when the night was already far gone. She knew that if she were still working at Carrington Foods or even at the manor, she wouldn't have time to think about what Levi was doing and how she was alone in the house. Having Mayr and Elena was not enough company. No matter how she tried to connect with them, they always placed a gap, and she understood well what they were trying to say.She spent the entire week looking for modelling jobs; this was the only job she could do without her parents' interference. Knowing it was going to anger them, she did it because she needed money, and at the same time, she was bored. Her mother had taken the liberty of placing a hold on all of her accounts. She regretted in that moment not having a separate personal account. She was shocked that the Beaumont company offered her the first modelling gig. They knew very well who she was, and yet they thought it wise to still o
Lila never thought she could miss something she did not love, but here she was. She did not know she would miss Levi's house as much as this. It was his house because he was the one who got it and even paid for everything to make sure they had a place to live. She tried to make sure he did not show how happy she was to be back there.Levi introduced her to the newly hired keeper who was to live in. She wanted to ask him when he got the chance to do all of that, but she just let it go because he did not look as though he was happy to be there with her. She introduced herself as Mary and told her that she had a daughter who was a college student and was around because of vacation."I am glad to hear that; it's really good news," Lila said happily, clapping when she realised that she would not be at home alone. She was jobless, and that meant all she had to do was mope around all day. "I wouldn't sit around all day by myself," she added when it seemed like no one asked her why.Levi just
Lila called her sisters to give them an update on what had happened. "So, Mom kicked us out," Lila said."Thank God," Victoria replied, earning a scoff from both her sisters. "You guys want to act like you do not know what I mean. I mean, I love Mom, but these kinds of love are better expressed from a distance. I could imagine living in that place with her and having her breath down my neck," she added."I can not imagine that either, but still it's kind of sad that she kicked her out," Beth replied."Beth, you only say it is kind of sad because you have the best relationship with Mom; if you were in either of our shoes..." Vitoria shuddered as she trailed off. "Trust me, you wouldn't want to be in our shoes," she added."Guys, that is not the issue here," Lila said, drawing them back to reality. "The issue is that...""There is no issue here; I only want to know the full details of what happened last night," Victoria replied. Lila knew that if it were her sister against her mom, she
Lila stirred in bed; she felt her head pound a little as she struggled to sit up, memories of her ruining her mother's party came flooding back into her mind. She winced as she looked around the room, wondering how disappointed she must have been feeling at her. She had a chance to prove herself, but the only thing she did was blow it at once. She looked around the room, wondering why she was alone; she at least thought that Levi would be there with her when she woke up. All she remembered was introducing Levi to his girlfriend and then blacking out at once. She immediately concluded that he had probably gone to see Fiona. She had to think back on the night because her just fainting like that out of nowhere made no sense. The party had started, and someone offered a drink. Without thinking too much about it, she accepted, and the next thing she knew, she was dizzy and blacking out out of nowhere. She managed to get out of bed at once and with all the strength within her, she changed o
Lila thought long and hard about how she could make Levi want to stay at the manor. She knew that once she successfully planned this party and her mom saw her potential, then she would look at her with more love. Maybe she might even compliment her a little, and that was exactly what Lila wanted. If her mom could just acknowledge her, then she would want to run out of the manor like she felt in that moment. She suddenly thought of something that might make Levi want to stay in the mansion. Maybe if his ex-girlfriend were there, then he would want to stay, as he would see her every day. That could be a good reason for him. She smiled as she tried her best to contact Fiona.Fiona was one of those girls who said harsh words with a smile on their face. So they try to maintain a nice appearance while being the mean girl. When Lila had reached out to her and explained her situation, stating that she would love to give her a job at the manor. Fiona told her blankly that she did not need the
Every single time Levi spoke to Lila, she couldn't help but notice that something was different between them. She constantly found herself daydreaming about his long, slender fingers or maybe his face at times. Even though she did not want to admit it, she was sensing the growing feelings from her end and no matter what, she could not bring herself to accept it."Levi Beaumont?" she murmured to herself as she stared in the mirror. After the buzz feeling from the charity event was over, she was now back to the worker she hated so much. It was still a mystery to her why she would be fired and given such a job that was below her but she did not think about it too much, as all she thought about was trying to please her mother and occasionally Levi found a way into her mind."How can it be? How can I like him? It is impossible because I hate him and our families as well. Not only do I hate him because he is a Beaumont but also we have been rivals for the ongets time so this feeling must be
Lila told herself that the thing with Levi and his ex-girlfriend would not affect her mood but she was totally wrong. She stayed at the bar trying to make sure she did not see what they were doing but she was either drinking heavily or trying to turn around to see what had happened. She knew her mother would have been disappointed in her that night even though she did not really know why she would have been; all she knew was that she would frown and turn her nose upwards. From the bar where she stayed, all she could see was Levi and Fiona flirting uncontrollably. "Shouldn't he act as if he is married? I know that all of this is for show but still, what about respecting me?" she murmured as she circled the rim of her glass with her finger. She bent her head and sighed at how unlucky she was in life. She tried to cheer herself up but no matter what she said to herself, it did not seem to make her feel better; all she felt was worse. Her phone rang, startling her, and for some reason she
