Riley’s POV

The restaurant Leo chose was tucked into a side street in Midtown—modern, moody, and elegant, the kind of place that made you feel expensive just by sitting down. He’d made a reservation under his name, and the hostess lit up like a Christmas tree the second he stepped inside. She tucked her hair behind her ears as she gestured for us to follow her.

She escorted us to a private booth near a window with a view of the city skyline. The lights outside shimmered, casting little diamonds across the glass. The waiter brought a bottle of wine without even asking, and Leo just winked at me when I raised an eyebrow.

“Do you come here often, Mr. Carter?” I teased, letting the weight of the evening ease off my shoulders as I slipped into the plush booth across from him.

“Only when I want to impress someone,” he said, loosening the collar of his crisp black shirt. “Is it working?”

I tilted my head, pretending to think. “Hmm. You did show up with flowers and chocolate. That’s at least

  • Let Me Go, Boss!   43: DNA

Jax’s POVCamilla sat across from me on the edge of the sleek couch in my condo, sipping mineral water like she hadn’t just dropped a nuclear bomb into my life some days ago. Her perfectly manicured nails tapped the side of the glass, slow and rhythmic, like she was waiting for an applause.“So,” I said, folding my arms as I leaned against the kitchen counter. “I’ve been thinking.”Her eyes flicked up, lips already curling into that smile. The one she used when she thought she had the upper hand.“Dangerous habit for you,” she said lightly, crossing her legs. “What’s on that overthinking brain of yours?”I ignored the jab. “I want a prenatal DNA test.”She blinked, then she laughed. It wasn’t a little chuckle or a nervous giggle—it was the kind of loud, full-bodied laugh that echoed through the room and made my jaw clench.“You’re serious?” She finally asked, wiping the corner of her eye like I’d just told the best joke of the year.“I wouldn’t have said it if I wasn’t.”The laughter

  • Let Me Go, Boss!   42: Stranger

Stranger’s POV Her hand slid down my spine, warm and slow, like she was branding me with her touch alone. Camilla always touched me like she owned me, she never asked, never hesitated.I lay back on the silk sheets, letting her run her fingers across my ribs, my waist, like I was some piece of art she’d paid too much for and didn’t want to let go of.“You’re quiet,” she whispered, her wet lips brushing my ear. “That usually means you’re thinking. About what?”I kept my expression unreadable. “Just… wondering if this plan of yours will actually work.”Her breath hitched with a little laugh. “It’ll work,” she said like she was reassuring herself more than me. “Of course it will. The plan is foolproof.”“Foolproof,” I echoed, reaching lazily for my wine glass. “And what if it’s not?”Camilla propped herself on one elbow, looking down at me with those glassy, too-bright eyes. “Why wouldn’t it be? I know Jax. I know how to keep him tangled long enough to get what we want.”We.Cute.I sw

  • Let Me Go, Boss!   41: Jax says thanks?

Jax’s POV“What am I doing?”The office was too quiet for a Tuesday morning. Not that it was ever loud—but today it had that odd, pressurized silence that made every movement sound louder. The shuffle of papers. The low hum of the AC. The click of my pen tapping uselessly against the surface of my desk.I hadn’t even realized I’d been staring at my computer screen for five straight minutes until the cursor blinked again and again, waiting for me to start typing.I ran a hand down my face and exhaled.Riley had stayed late last night—without being pressured—wrapping up the budget report for that last-minute pitch I’d thrown at her. I didn’t expect her to finish it. Hell, I hadn’t even meant to dump it on her, not really. It just… slipped out. One of those reactive things I did when I was overwhelmed and didn’t want to admit it.And she’d done it. Delivered it on my desk at 9:03 PM sharp, barely looking at me as she handed it over and left. That should’ve been the end of it. But now I c

  • Let Me Go, Boss!   40: A little problem

Riley’s POVSome days, silence was a gift. But this morning? It was pure gold. For one, no one had barged into my office with an emergency. No urgent emails. No passive-aggressive texts from Caleb. And Jax hadn’t so much as looked at me since the Camilla incident. I wasn’t sure if I should be grateful or concerned.I leaned back in my chair, stretching slightly as I typed out one final sentence on a proposal I’d been working on. The office was still humming quietly, and for a few blessed minutes, I felt like maybe—just maybe—I could breathe. Then the door opened. No knock. No warning. Just perfume. The kind that wrapped around your throat like a silk noose. Musky. Sweet. Way too expensive.I looked up—and everything in me went still. Camilia Devereaux. She stepped in like she owned the place, her heels clicking against the floor like gunshots. She had a coffee in one hand and a smirk on her face.“Hi,” I said, slowly straightening. “Can I help you?”She tilted her head, letting out a

  • Let Me Go, Boss!   39: Black Skirt Effect

Jax’s POVThe lights were dimmed low in the apartment, casting everything in warm amber shadows. Outside, the city buzzed—cars moving, people laughing on patios, life happening. But inside, it was still.Too still.I poured myself another drink, the amber liquid splashing against the glass like it wanted to fight me. I didn’t even bother with ice this time. Just let it burn straight down my throat. My phone buzzed on the counter. One name popped up on the screen, a familiar one. Alina. Or maybe it was Amira.I didn’t care. I just typed “come over” and set the phone down like I was ordering takeout. I needed a distraction. Something messy. Loud. Forgettable.Something light. Not the image of Riley laughing with Leo. Not the sound of her heels walking past my office. Not the memory of her pressed against me outside that damn gala like it meant something.No. I needed anything but that. The knock on my door came half an hour later.Amira walked in without waiting—confident and dressed in

  • Let Me Go, Boss!   38: Pregnant

Jax’s POVThe door to my office burst and Camilla walked in like she owned the damn place, her high heels clicked against the floor as she walked. Her perfume flooded the room before I could even think another thought. She had a coffee in one hand, a smirk on her red-painted lips, and that same look in her eyes—the one that always said I’m about to set something on fire just to watch it burn.I leaned back in my chair, tossing my pen onto the desk. “What the hell are you doing here?”“Oh, come on,” she said, sashaying to the chair opposite mine. “It’s been a while. Won’t you even say hi?”“Hi,” I deadpanned. “Now get to the point.”She sat like she had all the time in the world, crossing one leg over the other and taking a long, exaggerated sip from her coffee.“I’m pregnant,” she said, as casually as someone ordering croissants.I blinked. Then I laughed. “Okay? And?”Her smile didn’t falter. “I’m four months along.”I stared at her. My pulse kicked once, hard. “What the hell does t
