Chapter 1 Not Helping Again

Author: Happy Cheetah
Queenie was spamming the group chat with a slew of emojis. "I had to tap into a lot of connections for those notes. I heard they've pinned down questions that'll show up in the college entrance exam."

Our classmates gasped in astonishment and gratitude. "Oh, my god, you're an angel, Queenie. The exam's tomorrow, and you're still helping us out."

They kept singing Queenie's praises. Not a single one of them stopped to think about how serious the consequences would be if they were caught cheating on their college entrance exam. Regardless, I kept my head down and pretended not to hear them.

I was busy cramming when someone smacked my desk.

Michael looked impatient as he snapped, "What are you up to this time, Josephine? Queenie helped us get the answers, yet you left the group? She asked me if you hated her, and now she's crying because of you!"

Our classmates started criticizing me, saying I was giving Queenie attitude.

I couldn't help but be reminded of what happened before I died in my previous life. Michael had cursed me then, saying I betrayed Queenie. Everyone else was bobbing their heads like chickens.

When the truck crushed me under its wheels, they stood nearby and watched everything unfold. They even remarked that I died too quickly.

As if that weren't enough, they lied to my parents after my death, telling them I messed with some random, seedy guys and drank too much before I wobbled onto the highway.

My parents refused to believe them. Alas, the grief hit them hard, and they both died from heart attacks. I had stopped these ungrateful wolves from cheating out of kindness.

Yet, all I got out of it was my family's destruction. Well, no more.

I clenched my fists as I swore to myself that I wouldn't make the same mistake this time around. Still, I hung my head low and murmured quietly, "college entrance exam ban cheating."

Michael suddenly huddled closer and growled in a low, fierce tone only we could hear, "I killed you once, and I can do it again. Don't try anything stupid. Don't even think about snitching."

I jerked my head up and stared at him in disbelief. So, he had returned as well.

Michael pulled the tearful Queenie into his arms, looking at her with the joy of someone finding the most precious thing he'd lost.

They weren't even putting on an act anymore. I sneered and sorted out the things I would need for the exam. The student athlete noticed the lack of notes in my stationery case, and they gasped, "Where are your notes, Josephine?"

I looked them in the eye and spoke with a deadpan look on my face.

The scandal died down, and my life returned to its usual peace and quiet.Everyone was aware of the full truth, so they now had nothing but respect for me. No one dared to start any rumors. …Soon, I was accepted into Northberg. It was a lovely day when I went to school for the admission letter.Erin handed me the only acceptance letter in our class, looking dejected. "There should've been 32 of those here. It's a shame they went down that path…"It took that group cheating scandal for the school to learn that the special privileges they granted the honors class did more harm than good. Those privileges made the honors class students get themselves involved in social classes way

My parents noticed the commotion and immediately came to look for me. They knew what happened between us, so they couldn't help but look at me with worry in their eyes. "Maybe we should talk to him?"I shook my head and held my mother's hand as I said calmly, "It's alright. He has nothing to do with us anymore. Trust me. He'll leave soon."It took a long while before that happened, but Michael's voice eventually disappeared. I knew he was gone, and that we would never have anything to do with each other again from that moment on.I thought that was the end of it, but the Internet was baying for my blood a few days later. Apparently, someone had posted a lot of eye-catching headlines across the socials."Top Scorer Watches As Whole Class Cheats. Her Selfishness Ruins Their Future.""31 Out of 32 Arrested. "Yeah! Enroll them, too! We can't let our children be ruined!"These people were noisy, incessant, and were like leeches stuck to my skin. They kept going on and on about how I was the class representative and had a duty to save their children. Eventually, I lost any and all patience for them as I flung the hand that was holding my arm, glaring at them coldly. Finally, I rebuked icily, "No college will admit cheaters. Not Northberg, not anywhere else."That shut them right up. I turned and left without sparing them a single look. Their children cheated and tried to tip the scales with their status as honors-class students. They deserved to be punished, yet their parents expected me to deal with the fallout? Hah.In my previous life, I kindly saved them only to have my family destroyed. This time, I wouldn't do something that stupid.I went to the bulletin board and saw my name sitting at the top. Then, I noticed the 'Top Scorer' title written right below. I smiled and went home

  • Let Them Get Caught   Chapter 7 Begging Parents

I had left the group chat the second I was reborn, so news of their downfall couldn't even cause a ripple to my peaceful life. I knew their ends were set in stone, and all I had to do was walk the path I'd set myself on.The night the college entrance exam were over, my family made a feast to celebrate. My parents were sitting across from me, looking glad.My mother was all smiles as she filled my plate with food. "It's finally over. Let your hair down and go wherever you want."I nodded and picked up my fork. The TV was airing local news, and the news anchor said solemnly, "Breaking news. A severe case of group cheating has happened at a local exam venue. A famous high school's honors class is involved."The entire class brought notes into the exam hall, with the exception of a single student. It is a gross violation, and after the joint investigation between the police and Department of Education, they have arrived at a decision."The cheating students will see their results v

I retorted coldly, "I remember telling you that the college entrance exam forbid cheating, and that the rules aren't there just for fun."Their criticism died in their throats as their faces turned from red to white. I ignored them as I blithely continued, "You could've scored enough for Northberg, but you got too greedy for fame and fortune. Blame your own desires for your downfall, not me."Dead silence fell upon the field. Michael's jaw was slack, and his face took on an ugly shade of puce before settling on ashen. Even he couldn't come up with a single retort to that. The students who were blaming me hung their heads low, cowed. The cops were pressing Queenie's shoulders down. She glared at me with venom in her eyes, but she could barely breathe now, much less curse. The cops frowned in disgust and urged, "Stop wasting time and take them to the station already!"The police car door swung shut, and I could see Michael staring at me through the window. His eyes glinted with re

That drove the already guilty students closer to a breakdown. Michael had lost all strength and was slumped on his chair. Since the proctors had a meeting about this a week ago, that meant that I had no involvement in this sudden inspection, not even in my previous life. This was his second chance at life, and he had chosen to destroy it. Suddenly, he was reminded of Erin's warning about getting caught cheating, and it didn't take long for fear to take root in his bones. He held his head in his hands, his face white with terror, and he let out a quiet scream. The other classmates weren't faring any better, and everyone was tearing up. The other halls were also filled with whines and voices of some braver students pleading for mercy. Some even knelt before the proctor and begged for mercy. They cried, "I'm sorry! I won't do it again! Please, spare me!"Just then, I heard a scream. I instinctively looked outside the window. It was Queenie. She had put makeup on for the occasion,
