Aura

The engines' low rumble cut through the twilight hour's tranquility. Vibrations running through the ground under my feet caused me to stiffen and my heart to race against my ribs like a warning drum.

Kai was right next to me straight away. His hand brushed my own—brief but grounding. "They're here," he said quietly, dangerously calm.

The air abruptly seemed too thin; I gulped heavily. We stood at the town's edge, exactly where the fields turned to trees. The dying sun's golden light gave the world an illusion of calm. The storm, however, was approaching. It was wearing the face of the guy who formerly possessed my heart.

Every inch of him a memory I wanted to forget, the first figure dismounted his black, growling motorcycle.

Alpha Ryder.

From afar, too, he exuded rage and natural power. Mussed like he'd ripped at it during restless nights, his dark hair was a bit longer now. His sharp jaw was tight, and his molten silver eyes fixed on me with a horrible intensity.

Mine. Though

Aura The next morning, the world came to life with blood. Before the scouts even arrived, the news came on the chilly winds: Ryder had struck. The attack was not directed at us—not yet—but at one of the smaller rebel packs that had dedicated themselves to Kai's cause. The Hollow pack. They were totally wiped out. Burned to cinders.I sat frozen in the war room, the map of our lands spread before us, markers were set where alliances had been created. One of Kai's lieutenants grumbled lowly and sadly, "They never even had a chance."Feeling the slight comfort of my baby's movements, I put my hand on my stomach. It grounded me. It kept me from shattering. With his fists clenched and his face covered in a mask of suppressed rage, Kai stood at the head of the table. He said softly, "They were farmers. Elders. Youngsters. How could he do this?”A chill crept into my bones. Ryder had made his move. Against innocents. "This is war.” Kai finally spoke, his voice hoarse. “No more playing.”S

AuraMorning broke gray and heavy, as if the sky itself braced for what was coming.Wrapped in a thick blanket, I sat by the window. Though I hardly noticed, my tea had gone cold in my hands. The nightmare continued to cling to me. Feeling the slightest movements of life under my fingers, I pushed my hand over my stomach. My child. My little warrior.“You're safe,” I said, my voice low. It felt like a promise I had to keep telling myself as much as to the life inside me.Respecting the burden hanging over me, Kai quietly entered the room, his steps cautious. In his hand was a folded letter; his face was unreadable.I lifted an eyebrow in quiet question. He let out a slow breath. "A news.”My heart sank. “From Ryder?”"Not really," Kai said, kneeling before me. "It's from the neighboring packs. They're… choosing sides."My mouth went dry."Some stand with us," he continued, his voice low, steady. "They believe in protecting you. They believe in standing up for what is right.”“What a

AURAStanding up too quickly caused the world to tilt somewhat; Kai was there right away, his hands steadying me. I grumbled under my breath, but he only smiled with a patient, tenacious smile of his—the one that said he wasn’t about to let me argue."Little wolf, slow down," he said. You are not racing; you are healing.”I sighed but leaned into him for a second more than necessary. His warmth, his scent—everything about him grounded me when everything else seemed to be spinning out of control. It had been two days since Ryder had declared war. Two days after Kai had found me still somehow alive in the woods, broken and bleeding. Though the healers toiled ceaselessly on my wounds, Kai never left by my side.He fed me. He bathed me when my power waned. Kept me during the nights when the edges of my mind were scratched by nightmares.I had never let anyone see me like this before—fragile, exposed. Kai, however, remained unflinching. He didn't handle me like glass. He just stayed. And

AuraI was tearing through the woods, with branches clawing at my arms and legs like skeletal fingers, and the cold bit into my skin. Every uneven breath set my lungs on fire. Still, I couldn't stop. Not now. Not after everything.Ryder's nails cutting deep into my skin warmed my side where he had grabbed me before I broke free. Though blind to everything but the need to flee, I pushed forward despite my knees buckling once, twice.Run.My body cried out for rest. I was getting slower. I could sense it—the weakness creeping in like a dark tide. As my feet tripped over twisted roots and uneven ground, tears clouded my sight. My child. I put a shaking hand to my stomach gasping. "I'm sorry," I softly said, broken. “Im sorry, tiny one. Hold on.”Then comes a warmth. A gentle, deep-seated pulse. It was not suffering. It was... relaxing. A soft, gentle presence. As if the little life growing inside me was reaching out—steadying me, reminding me:You are not alone. The relationship between

AuraDarkness faded into colors and sounds—rough hands pulling me, the bitter sting of cold air on my skin, the muted roar of my own heartbeat.Though the edges of the world tilted perilously, I struggled to stay awake. Somewhere, I imagined I could hear Kai's frantic, wild voice calling for me. But he was too far away and I was by myself.I found myself waking on cold stone with the weak flicker of torches dancing along the walls. Panic struck my heart. Instinctively clutching my stomach, I rushed upright."Easy, darling," a sneering voice purred.I spun around. A few feet away, arms crossed, Leona stood with her red lips curling in amusement. She looked perfect as usual: her designer clothes unsuitable for the grim surroundings, her blonde hair in soft waves. The only thing that betrayed her was her eyes. They gleamed with a cold, calculating brightness."Where... where am I?" I croaked, my throat sore. She said gently, "Somewhere safe. For now.”I tried to stand, but my knees gave

AuraThe morning air felt different. Softer, sweeter. Something seems to had shifted in the wind. I woke up with an odd warmth in my chest, like someone had tightly held my heart by wrapping their arms around it. Blinking away the sleep fog, I stretched and saw Kai, shirtless and chopping wood, through the open door. With every swing, his muscles tensed under the gentle sunlight, his brow shone.I felt the pull again.Soft and warm, like a heartbeat that doesn't belong to me, the bond pulsed weakly in my chest. Unlike the frantic fire I'd once felt for Ryder, it was quieter and deeper. It was steady, certain, like a river that knew where it was going, not possessive or suffocating.Feeling the gentle flutter where our bond lived, I pushed my palm against my chest. Like roots burrowing into the soil of my soul. The night before, I had felt it start to grow slowly, but steady. Even though it was just on my forehead, his kiss had opened something wide inside me.I let my hand fall to m

AuraAs if the world itself held its breath, the night was oddly quiet. With my eyes wide open, I lay on the edge of the bed and gazed into the gentle shadows created by the moonlight coming in through the wooden blinds. Instead of convulsing in pain as before, my fingers were heavy with anticipation as they lay softly over my calm belly. This enigmatic life inside me, my baby, was too silent. But I sensed it. Even in this peaceful moment, something much greater than me was taking place, as I was reminded by the thunderous beating of a heartbeat beneath my skin.Sleep came now in fragments. It was restless when it comes. It pulled me down into strange, deep visions that were not mine but appeared to be memories. In my dream tonight, I wasn't alone. The forest around me was old and silver-lit. The trees whispered secrets in a language I couldn't understand, their leaves rustling like old papers. The air was bright, full of vitality, and then she emerged from the fog barrier. It was

AuraThe pain had been sudden, relentless, and terrible, like a tidal wave. My screams reverberated through the cabin, bouncing off the walls like thunder. In the improvised bed, I had rolled over and clutched my large tummy as if my hands could hold everything inside.“Kai.” I cried out as the contraction that followed made it difficult for me to hold my breath.Immediately he was by my side, his hands steady and cool, but his eyes betrayed the panic he was trying so hard to hide."I thought it had gotten better earlier," he remarked, sweeping my perspiration-damp hair from my brow. "Hold on, Aura. I’ll call Mavyn." Mavyn. The old healer who resided on the outskirts of town. A half-wolf, half-human woman who was always by herself and was said to hold power ancient than the forest itself. I nodded faintly, my claws burrowing into Kai's arm as another contraction poured through me. My baby. My baby wasn't supposed to come yet. Not now. Not like this. By the time Mavyn came,
