Over the next few days, Dylan stayed away from Scarlett. He gave her the space she wanted and stopped her from attending court.

As for Scarlett, she refused to feel guilty for her actions. She had every right to be upset, especially when she noticed he was hiding a lot of secrets from her.

As Tabitha helped her into a dress one morning, she couldn't contain her curiosity.

"Tabi, do you know about Dylan's curse?"

Tabitha's hand froze mid-air. She lowered her eyes quickly and backed away.

"Come here, my love." Dylan murmured. The sudden endearment caused a stir but he didn't care. His eyes were only for Scarlett. He watched her walk towards him, her gaze steady, her walk confident. She was wearing one of the diamond necklaces he got her, and her wedding ring winked from her finger. She got to where he stood and placed her hand in his. He pulled her close, his other hand slipping possessively around her waist. "You are perfection itself." He said softly, bringing her hand to his lips and dropping a kiss on it. Then he kissed her, right in the presence of everyone around the table. Beowulf forcefully cleared his throat, ruining the peaceful moment. "It's a pleasure to have you join us, Lady Callahan." He muttered. "If we could just return to the matter at hand..."Caleb glared at him, but said nothing while Jordan just watched in silence, gauging the expressions of all the elders. Dylan led Scarlett around the table and helped her sit, before taking the seat besid

Scarlett was fast asleep when Dylan awakened the next morning. He slipped out of bed, walked towards the window and stared outside. Just as he predicted, the blood moon didn't appear. Something in his curse had changed, but he didn't know what it was. What usually took several days had taken just a day, and the dream he had about Scarlett didn't quite help. He needed answers. A lot of answers. He walked back to the bed and leaned over Scarlett. She was curled up tightly, the sheets wrapped snugly around her. His heart stirred as he looked at her, a strange feeling he always got whenever he was close to her. His feelings for her were definitely changing, and growing stronger even though he tried to deny it. He put his face close to hers, letting her warm breath wash over him. Last night hadn't gone well, and it only made him realize how much he cared about her, how badly he was willing to protect her. He lifted his hand and brushed her cheek, softly tucking the strands of flamin

Scarlett expected it to hurt. She prepared herself for it, knowing fully well that the first time came with a lot of pain. But nothing prepared her for the excruciating agony that hit her. It felt like she was being torn in two. She barely registered Dylan's hand clamped over her mouth as she screamed from the pain. He was too big, ripping her wide open brutally. She felt something warm and wet trickle down her inner thighs. She didn't need to check to know it was blood. "It hurts," she cried, shaking her head and hitting Dylan's chest. "It hurts so much."Dylan's heart broke when he saw the tears streaming down her face. He had been worried that this would happen, and watching it happen now only made him feel worse. He pulled out swiftly and cradled her, dropping light kisses on her face, her cheeks, her lips. "I'm sorry," she sobbed. "It just hurts really bad.""You have nothing to be sorry for," he assured her sweetly. "I should be the one apologizing, for hurting you."He la

Every coherent thought dissolved from Dylan's mind when he heard those words. He grasped the edge of her night dress and tugged at it, his fingers warm and insistent. "I promise, I'll be gentle." He murmured. He gently pulled off the night gown and tossed it aside. Then he took off his shirt, kicked his pants off and climbed back into the bed. He kissed her first, his lips merging with hers in a hot dance of desire. A little pressure from him coaxed her lips open and he slid his tongue into her mouth. She gasped at the sensation, her eyeballs rolling back, lids fluttering close. She moaned into his mouth when his tongue swirled erotically with hers. Her chest rose and fell rapidly, her hands tight around his back, nails raking over his skin. Her thighs clamped hard around his waist, her hips lifting up to rub against the hard bulge straining against his boxers. He pulled away and leaned his head against hers. "Patience, Scarlett, I'm trying really hard to go slowly.""I can't h

Scarlett banged hard on the door with her fists, rattling the door knob and trying to pull it open. Nothing worked. Her first suspect was Helgar and Beowulf. With the tight tension between them, it was only normal for them to try and hurt her. Her heart raced as she paced around the room, then walked over to the window and squinted out, trying to find Dylan. Dylan had just entered the courtyard. With the direction he came from, it seemed he just stepped out of the mansion. Suddenly he turned towards the window and looked up. His lips curled into a smirk, an indication that he just did something mischievous. Realization slowly dawned on her. He was the one who locked her in. Muttering a curse under her breath, she barged into the terrace and glared down at him. "Dylan, open the door or I'll jump." Her voice sounded high pitched and unsteady. He gave her a bold look, like he was daring her to actually jump. Then he slowly turned and walked off. "DYLAN!" She screamed after him,

Scarlett stormed into her bedroom in a fit of rage. She ripped the hairclip out of her hair and flung it at the wall. She had never been this angry at anyone. After everything, Dylan still didn't believe her. She had been counting on him, hoping he would at least take her side. Why wasn't she surprised? Of course he would believe his fellow shifters instead of his human wife whom he didn't want to marry in the first place. He came through the door then, his eyes searching the room until he found her. "Scarlett...""Don't talk to me." She moved away when he tried to hold her. "You've embarrassed me enough.""Embarrassed you?""I expected you to back me up, Dylan. We might not love each other, but I'm your wife. I told you what happened, and you just ruined everything. You were supposed to take my side.""It's not about taking sides." He yelled. "It is, to me. I'm trying to establish my authority in this pack, and you know how hard that is, since I'm a human. I needed you on my sid

A small crowd had gathered in the middle of the pack when Scarlett and Caleb returned. "What's happening there?" Scarlett asked, standing on her toes and straining to look. "A peddler has arrived. They move from place to place with their goods from all over the world, and people trade with them."

The moon ball ended abruptly. What was supposed to be a peaceful celebration turned into chaos. When Sheba first heard that Dylan had married a human, she refused to believe it. She knew him, knew how much he despised the humans for being weak and inferior. He loathed their existence. Scarlett could barely recognize her reflection in the mirror. The deep green ball gown contrasted perfectly with her red hair and made her emerald eyes vibrant. She turned to the side, loving the way the full skirt swirled around her feet. The bodice hugged her chest firmly, with a low-cut neckli
