MasukLilith's POV
The sound of running water fills everywhere, echoing in the bathroom.
Steam fills the air until it's almost heavy and thick, the scent of expensive jasmine clogging my nostrils…the kind my mother loved.
But no matter how much perfume is poured, it still can't reduce the bitter, metallic stench of blood at the back of my nostrils….my mother's blood.
At this moment, I feel empty, as though my consciousness has floated elsewhere, staring down at the maids as they mindlessly scrubbed the hell out of my skin.
They don't even try to be gentle just keep scrubbing my legs so hard, the skin bruises, turning bright red.
And each time they scrub the spot where her blood touched me earlier, I subconsciously flinched, the urge to scream out until I can't anymore rise. But unfortunately, my throat feels tight, as though I swallowed broken glass.
I just gaze lifelessly at the mirror, my eyes lingering on the black diamonds choker. It still sits right on my neck; a wicked reminder that I don't belong to myself anymore, but to three devils.
“st…stop” I whisper, my voice cracking and raw. “I..I can wash myself, please”
The head maid frowns, not bothering to look at me as she pours a thick, gold oil on my shoulders. “You're wanted perfect by the Triad, Lilith” she says, her eyes hardening. “And we received orders to make sure you're….perfect” she then grabs another bottle of oil. “Your mother's dead. Don't ruin your already swollen face with more tears”
Just then, the senior maids finally let go of me, walking out to go get my supposed wedding clothes. But one maid stays behind. She's wearing a surgical mask and a cap that hides her face.
I press my knees towards my chest, trembling in the corner of the huge marble tub. But suddenly, the girl locks the heavy door behind her. I flinch, my heart almost jumping into my throat.
But when she pulls her mask down, my eyes widen in shock.
My best friend, Sloane. What the hell was she doing here?
Sl…Sloane?” I say, almost yelling. The sob lingering in my chest finally breaks out. It's messy and loud. I run out of the water without any care, wrapping a towel around my body.
“Oh, goddess, Sloane…you…you saw everything that happened. They….those devils, they killed my mother! Help me get out of here, Jax….”
“He's gone, Lilith” Sloane says in a calm tone which almost scares me, gripping my shoulders steadily. “Jax is halfway to the border as we speak with a bag full of cash. And there's no ‘escaping’ here for you. At least not through the door”
I stumble, the world spinning. “Jax…he…he really left me?”
She doesn't reply, just reaches for her pocket and pulls out a tiny bottle. Inside is a dark, glittering liquid that swirls like oil mixed with something else I can't fathom.
“This is Nightshade Marrow” she says in a low whisper, placing the cold bottle in my palm.
“Smear it across your lips. The second their skin touches yours, they'll be dead. It would look like a heart attack, like they died from extreme excitement”
A frown forms on my forehead as I look at the bottle, my hands trembling so hard, I almost dropped the glass. “I…I'm not a killer, Sloane. I can't”
Sloane frowns, digging her skin into my skin, her eyes burning with rage. “They fucking killed your mother right in your eyes! And they'll use you like an animal until you start thinking you're one, Lilith! Do you want to spend your life as a sex doll for those three devils, huh?! Kiss them! Kill them! Do it for your mother”
Before I can say another thing, she lets me go and slips out just as the other maids are about to come in.
The older maids dressed me in a white silk held together by thin gold chains. It's so transparent I might as well go in naked.
After that, I'm led to the main room.
I'm standing in front of the mirror, my heart beating violently. I stare at the poison. Just then, I hear heavy feets approaching the door…. it's them, the Triad.
With shaking fingers, I open the bottle in a hurry and rub the liquid over my lips, then discard it in a hidden corner. My lips now look unnaturally swollen and red….like a doll made for a funeral.
The big doors open. Malakai, Vane, and Roman walk in. They took off their jackets. Their shirts are open, sleeves rolled up. They look like animals ready to eat.
"Leave us," Malakai says. The maids leave fast. Malakai looks at me. He tilts his head, noticing something. I'm not crying. I'm just standing there, quiet.
Roman walks over, touching the bed. "Look," he says with a mean smile. "She stopped crying. She almost looks... like she wants us here."
Vane goes to the door. Click. The lock sounds like a gunshot

Malakai walks to the bed. He lifts my chin, makes me look at him. My heart is beating loudly. My lips are tingling, It's a weird, numb feeling. Sloane never told me what it would do to me.
Malakai leans down. His face is so close that I smell the woodsy scent on his skin.
Just then, he suddenly stops, his nostrils flares.
"You smell different tonight, Lilith," he says. His thumb touches my lip, picks up some oil. "Sweet. Like flowers at a funeral."
He stares at his thumb, then back at my wide, terrified eyes.
Slowly, he raises his thumb to his own tongue.
Lilith's POVThe club is suffocating. I'm sweating under the heavy cashmere trench coat, my bare skin sticking to the silk lining like a second layer I can't escape. The bass is so loud I can feel it in my teeth, vibrating through the floor and up into my bones. Neon lights flash in violent bursts of pink and blue, painting the crowd in strobes of color that make everything look like a fever dream.Roman is watching me squirm. He's completely relaxed against the leather booth, one arm draped over the back, his fingers lazily tapping against the worn material. A stolen drink sits in his other hand, condensation dripping down the glass. He hasn't taken his eyes off me since we sat down, and I hate how much I notice. How much I feel it."I'm going to pass out," I breathe, fanning my neck with my hand. The air is thick with cheap alcohol, sweat, and something sickly sweet I can't identify. "It's a hundred degrees in here.""Take it off, then." His voice cuts through the noise like a kni
Lilith's POV Arthur Sterling sat behind his massive oak desk with that smug smile plastered across his face, like he had already won. The library was all dark wood and leather-bound books that probably cost more than my entire existence. He leaned back in his chair, fingers steepled, waiting for Malakai to start negotiating like a good little businessman.I watched Malakai from my spot near the window, still wrapped in his heavy trench coat that smelled like smoke and rain. My bare feet were freezing against the cold mahogany floor. I had been dragged into this mess without shoes, without a plan, without anything except the pill I had dry-swallowed an hour ago that was now churning in my empty stomach.Arthur finally broke the silence. "So, Mr. Sterling. Shall we discuss the terms of your surrender?"Malakai didn't answer. He just stared at Arthur with those dark, dead eyes that never seemed to blink. The silence stretched between them like a wire about to snap."I'm being generou
Lilith's POV The SUV cuts through the highway like a blade. The city lights smear past the tinted windows, turning into golden streaks against the darkness. I'm sitting in the back seat, clutching Malakai's coat around my bare shoulders. The leather is warm beneath me, but I can't stop shivering. The silence in the car is suffocating.Vane is driving, his eyes fixed on the road ahead. Ronan is in the passenger seat, his head tilted back against the headrest, looking like he doesn't have a care in the world. Malakai sits stiffly beside him, staring straight ahead at the highway. He hasn't said a word since we left the mountains.I'm still trying to process everything that happened. The closet. Jaxson's dead body. The blood on Ronan's hands. And then Roman literally fucking my senses out. The heat of his body pressed against mine. His hands on my skin. But now, sitting in this cold, sleek vehicle, it feels like a completely different world.Without turning his head, Malakai reaches in
Lilith's POVThe five minutes Malakai gave me felt like both a lifetime and no time at all.I'm standing in the middle of his massive walk-in closet, surrounded by walls of expensive suits and crisp white shirts, and my hands won't stop shaking. Not from fear though. I know that now. The trembling is something else entirely, something that's been building since the moment I watched Ronan break that man's jaw without even blinking. The silk shirt I borrowed from Malakai slides off my shoulders and pools at my feet. I'm standing here in nothing but my lace underwear, running my fingers over the rows of tailored trousers, trying to find something that might actually fit me.My reflection catches my eye in the floor-to-ceiling mirror across from me.I'm flushed. Completely, utterly flushed. My cheeks are pink, my pupils are blown wide, and there's a sheen of sweat on my collarbone that has nothing to do with the temperature in this room. The violence didn't scare me. It did something else
Lilith's POV The Rolex on Malakai's wrist starts blinking red and I drop my wine glass. It shatters against the marble floor, red liquid pooling around my bare feet like blood. My heart slams against my ribs because I know exactly what that blinking means. Jaxson's father found us. He sent people. They're outside right now, probably aiming at these massive floor-to-ceiling windows, waiting for the perfect moment to turn this beautiful kitchen into a warzone. But Malakai doesn't even flinch. He reaches under the marble island and presses something I can't see. Before I can ask what he's doing, heavy metal shutters drop over every single window and door in this house. The sound is deafening, like thunder rolling across the mountains. Everything goes pitch black for exactly one second and I gasp, gripping the edge of the counter so hard my knuckles hurt. Then warm amber lights kick in from somewhere and I can see again."We're trapped," I whisper, staring at the solid steel covering e
Lilith's POV The water is scalding hot against my skin, almost too hot to bear. But I don't turn it down. I let it burn because it feels like something real, something I can actually control right now. The massive marble shower is completely fogged over, steam swirling around me like a thick cloud. My heart is hammering so loud I can barely hear the water hitting the floor.I'm waiting.bsjsI know he's coming. I left the door unlocked on purpose, and now I'm standing here pretending to wash my hair, though my hands are shaking so badly the shampoo bottle almost slips from my grip. The heavy bathroom door clicks open behind me, and my breath catches in my throat.I don't turn around immediately. I keep my back to the glass, letting the water cascade down my shoulders. But I can feel his presence filling the room, that electric charge that always seems to follow him everywhere. The door slides shut with a soft thud, and still I don't moves. When I finally wipe the steam from the glas
