Chapter 4

A week had passed and there were no new signs of attack, yet Alisha's nerves refused to budge. And the presence of the great man who filled the entire room with his mere presence did not help. She couldn't deny that she felt an attraction from the day she met him, the bodyguard was fine in every measure, from head to toe, but it was more than that. Something very deep, more primitive within her that called for him, accelerated her heartbeat when his figure was close, making every part of her body feel alive and although she tried to hide it, every day she was more aware of that feeling.

But he had noticed that lately he had kept a certain distance from her. However, she had caught him looking at her as if she were the sexiest woman in the world, that raised anyone's ego, even her own.

That morning she was alone in her apartment, which for the first time in years seemed huge. She had gotten used to Cristian's constant presence throughout the house, after the days he had spent with her with the justification of protecting her, that she felt a hole in her chest. She hit her temples in annoyance. It wasn't like she had fallen in love with him or anything. Not even she understood herself. But she knew he couldn't get past something more than an attraction and less with recent events. She woke up so many times a night that she had doubled the dose of sleeping pills she kept hidden in the bottom of her underwear drawer. Since Cristian had found out about his little problem with insomnia and his medication,

She sighed taking a sip of the coffee and looked at his phone screen. It was barely 10 in the morning. She cursed internally. It was her day off and she had no idea how to use her time. She had all her work up to date, she couldn't go out unless Cristian was within a meter of her. The 55-inch ultra HD plasma in the room was broadcasting the same series she had seen on the long nights of sleep, and the internet did not appeal to her. Since the first attack incident, she had closed all social networks.

-Hell, I need to do something- she yelled towards the ceiling.

She looked around for something that would attract her attention to do. The house was not even disorganized. She did not have a housekeeper, but she paid a person who came three times a week and was in charge of keeping his house ready and clean. She didn't even have to worry about that. Later she might start cooking, it was the only housework she allowed herself, and she loved it.

She closed her eyes and the image of her bodyguard came back to her head. She snapped them open and straightened up. Since that night he had stayed in the other room, watching over her safety. The first few days it was hard for her to get used to it, she had been living alone for a long time and the other thing is, it made her feel practically naked under his gaze no matter what she wore, so she opted for the most demure clothes she had, but by the end of the days she returned to her usual casual clothes, a short shorts and a loose white blouse that reached her navel. She would never forget his expression when he first saw her like this. She swore he had seen his eyes change color.

The ringing of her phone interrupted her thoughts.

-What's wrong Ania- she put the cup on the table and leaned back comfortably.

-Good morning Director, I'm down here, in the garage of the building, I brought you some things, do you think you can send help to take them away- Alisha hesitated for a moment

-I don't remember having anything pending that you had to bring me-

-There were some packages that arrived at the company today and the courier said that they had to be delivered urgently and I had no choice but to bring them to you-

Alisha sighed, even on her day off she couldn't have 5 minutes to herself.

-Wait a moment, I already go down, Cristian is not here-

She hung up and put the cell phone in the back pocket of her shorts. She went down the stairs to the garage on the first floor. The place was spacious and lit by the large windows on the exterior walls. There were countless numbers of cars, including both of hers, a Ferrari and a pickup of the year, who parked them in a reserved area at the end.

-Ania- she called his secretary, when he didn't see anyone, an uncomfortable feeling washed over her.

When she received no response after a second call and did not see any cars outside the lines, she began to back away nervously, her instincts warned her to go home, she should not have left, even if it was for her secretary. She couldn't believe she had set her up.

A shot to her back broke all reason. A high-pitched scream came from her throat as she felt the pounding on the ground and she ran after one of the cars for cover. Another shot grazed near her head as it hit the deck of the car. Alisha covered her head, shaking. Someone wanted her dead here and now. She felt steps in the distance and her adrenaline shot up. The killer was coming for her. Allowing herself to be carried away by the little sanity that fear allowed her to use, she crouched forward, checking the mirrors of the cars looking for her attacker but another shot crossed near her right ear, burning the skin. Alisha held back a cry and threw herself to the ground. She could feel her face wet between sweat and tears but if she stopped at that moment her life would end. And where the hell was Cristian, it was a good time for him to be there. Damn the moment when he received a call from who knows superior and had had to leave her alone, she also had part of the blame for having left when he repeated at least 5 times to stay inside her house. Now she was there, with a guy behind her skin and he wouldn't hesitate to finish her off.

She crawled under a car and stood there for a minute looking at least for the killer's feet. She needed to know its location to know where to go. Her heartbeat pounded in her ears and her hands shook painfully. She took the phone in his pocket, thanking herself for taking it with her, and dialed Cristian's number with difficulty. She was partly upset with him but he was the only person who could help her at the time.

She felt the bell on the other side. And she prayed waiting for him to answer

-Meyer, what happ-

-The murderer is behind me- she interrupted, trampling the words due to the uncontrollable shaking that ran through her and the sobs trapped in her throat -get me out of here-

-Where are you- he felt the sound of the car in the background, hearing it on the way to gave hope-

-In the garage, under a car- she swallowed loudly -he has a gun, he's shooting, I don't know how long it will take him to find me-

-Just wait a few minutes I'm coming, don't move from there unless necessary- Alisha felt the agony in his voice.

A shot rang out near her and she dropped the phone, cutting off the call in the process. Alisha tensed. Cristian had told her to stay in the place, but the attacker already knew her location, and he was close. She crawled over to the other car and got up, looking agitatedly to the side, looking for an exit. The footsteps were getting closer, she felt it, even though she couldn't see them.

A ray of hope came to her when she saw to her right a few meters away a door that led to one of the emergency exit. She knew that if she stayed there the chances of survival would be nil and every cell in her body told her to run there. Another shot smashed the windshield of the car next door, triggering the alarm. The sound was so loud that her mind clouded her and it sent her straight towards the exit like a terrified fawn.

Almost. Only five meters to go when a deep pain pierced her chest and took her to the ground, falling hard. His breath caught as the hot liquid flooded his back and chest. It had been hit by a bullet. She tried to move but her body refused after a wave of pain that clouded her vision and diminished all her senses. She would die there, she knew it, and she didn't like it one bit.

The last thing she remembered, they were arms lifting her from the cold ground, before losing herself in the darkness.
