Unexpected Help

I feel a tension around my shoulders, a tightening of my muscles. The energy pull from that room is overwhelming as if all the life is flowing from every living thing in the room, including myself.  

“We need to help her,” Conner insists, “we need to help our mate!”

“She doesn’t need us,” I explain silently. “You heard the elf, we’d just get in the way, or possibly even cause her harm if we were in there with her.”
