Chapter Six

Cora’s POV

I know it’s the wrong response, but when I see that Alexander is the one who pulled me out of the club, I actually find it sort of funny.

We’re in the parking lot, dimly lit. He looks angry. I’m nowhere near as afraid as I should be.

I pull away from him and smooth down the front of my corset top, then look up at him. I’m more miffed than anything else. That other guy was cute.

It’s almost ironic. When I was in love with him, he didn’t even bother to come home most of the time. And now that I’ve left him, he’s dragging me away from other men.

“Where did you get the money?” Alexander snaps at me before I can complain about his manhandling.

I can’t suppress the sharp burst of angry laughter I let out. “You came to me because of the money? Because you’re worried about your money?” I contemplate yelling at him, but he’s nowhere near worth the effort. “Even if I robbed a bank to get this money, I wouldn’t need you to care about it.
