Chapter Eight

Cora’s POV

I need to start my life over, plain and simple.

My father is old. He’s not in good health. The company needs me, and I might not remember everything about my former life, but I’ve got a gut feeling that I’ll be well-equipped to handle whatever this job could possibly throw at me.

I arrive accompanied by my father at the big glass corporate building early the next morning, smartly dressed and ready for the shareholder’s meeting. My heels clack on cool tile as I cross the shiny white floor. My ponytail bounces with every step.

“Remember,” my father hisses to me as we move through the building and towards the shareholder’s room. “They’re going to underestimate you. Be ready for that, Cora. They’ll object. They’re going to act like they’re smarter than you. But you’re better than all of them. Be strong.”

“I will,” I tell my father with a smile, squeezing his arm.
