Chapter 3 The Scoundrel

Author: Yue Xiamian

As Chu Yunshen lay in bed, he could sense the little cat curled up and feeling particularly warm next to his neck. It made his heart tremble. For a long time, this bed had been icy cold. With his life hanging on a thread at all times, he never once thought that he might need a woman. But since this little cat was so intelligent, it seemed alright to keep it by his side.

A contented gurgle came from her body.

Chu Yunshen could not help but smile. But what was she happy about?

Cheng Xiaoxiao was naturally delighted. She successfully slept with the bachelor she desired and completed the complicated post-transmigration drama between the male and female leads. Now they were heading straight for the heart of the story.

Who else could be as efficient as her?

When his breathing gradually evened out, she came close to Chu Yunshen. The man was genuinely stunning, and he had high powers. He was attractive any which way she looked at him. But she was merely a cat.

She was only a cat!

She was annoyed with the gods! It was like putting such a good piece of meat in front of her without giving her any teeth!

Did she perhaps genuinely transmigrated here mistakenly?

“My apologies. It was genuinely an accident, and we are deeply sorry.”

A voice rang by her ear. When Cheng Xiaoxiao sensed it, she suddenly appeared in an antique-styled main hall unknowingly. But the hall was filled with rows and rows of office tables, computers, documents, and other miscellanies. People were walking around in robes in front of her.

The modern office environment made Cheng Xiaoxiao ask impatiently, “Where on earth am I?!”

“Welcome to the Netherworld,” said the same voice again.

“What?” Cheng Xiaoxiao trembled as she turned to see a man in a smart black suit smiling at her. Then he said, “Please come with me, number 56789067.”

Cheng Xiaoxiao came to a reaction. It must be her serial number.

Where did he say they were? Was it the Netherworld?

As the man walked quickly, he seemed like he was floating in the air. He kept saying, “I’m so sorry. The Netherworld is so understaffed that none of its employees have gone on leave in hundreds of years. We got too tired and made a mistake this time.

Did they make a mistake?

Sure enough…

“Yes, Miss Cheng Xiaoxiao. You’re actually dead, so you should’ve gotten reincarnated. But an employee…accidentally entered the wrong serial number. So…we mixed up your number with this lion cat’s.”

Another man dressed in a white suit stood before her and said helplessly.

“It so happened that it was the lion cat’s time to die too. So your reincarnation quota was messed up. As it died three seconds earlier than you, it reincarnated in your place instead.”

Cheng Xiaoxiao, “…what?!”

“So that’s why you have to stay in this cat’s body for a few more days. Don’t worry. We’ll ensure that you get a good next life. You’ll have such good fortune that there’ll be auspicious astronomical phenomenon when you’re born!” said Hei Wuchang (together with Bai Wuchang, are officials of the Netherworld).

“How many days?” asked Cheng Xiaoxiao, “Can’t I just get reincarnated now?”

“That’s too soon. We need a month or so to prepare. Once your next life is ready, we’ll get in touch. Then you have to find some way and kill yourself. When you arrive, we’ll make arrangements for the reincarnation. Okay?” said Hei Wuchang anxiously.

Cheng Xiaoxiao noticed how anxious he was and suddenly realized. “You made such a huge boo-boo, yet the King of Hades didn’t look me up personally. I’m sure…you’re trying to keep it under wraps, right?”

Hei Wuchang and Bai Wuchang eyed each other. Then Bai Wuchang sighed helplessly and said, “You’re right, Miss. If our boss finds out, then we’ll be in big trouble… So I’d like to make up for it…in the hope that you can forgive us.”

Cheng Xiaoxiao said, “Since you put it that way, I can be reasonable about it. I’ll wait for a few days, but…!”

She reached her hand out and snatched one of Hei Wuchang’s jade pendants from his hands. “This is collateral. If you turn back on your word or fail to fulfill your promise, don’t blame me for giving it to the…”

Hei Wuchang was shocked, “You can’t play with that!”

Bai Wuchang blocked him instead as he said, “Fine, it’s a deal. We’ll leave that with you as collateral. See you soon!”

A white fog suddenly appeared. When Cheng Xiaoxiao opened her eyes, it was daylight. She had returned to Chu Yunshen’s bed, and it was late in the morning.

Chu Yunshen had already left. She looked at the jade pendant that she snatched as it hung from her neck. Then she could not help feeling sad about how unlucky she was in her heart. How could she have gotten into trouble when she was about to reincarnate?

But it was no use harping on it now. At least she was going to lead a glorious life in her next lifetime!

Since it was only a matter of months, it was no big deal. Hmph hmph.

After staying out all night, she was exhausted. Now that she had willingly accepted her fate, she felt so at ease that she fell asleep contentedly.

Chu Yunshen came back to the room after breakfast. At the sight of the little cat still sleeping soundly, he could not help feeling shocked. How could the little cat still sleep at this hour?

Was it a pig?

As he looked at the little cat, he contemplated deeply. He had not slept soundly in five years. Each time he shut his eyes, he saw a lot of spirits coming after him. They were the spirits that belonged to the people he killed. For countless days and nights, they harassed him. To him, it was a luxury even to sleep. But last night, he surprisingly fell asleep without dreaming at all.

Was it because of the cat?

Or was it because he did not have a partner?

Chu Yunshen furrowed his brows hard as he turned to instruct a maid, “Get the Household Department to send some jade plates (plates record the name of woman for ancient nobilities to sleep with) over tonight.”

The maid was stunned. Then she became so excited that she stammered, “Yes…yes…Your Highness!”

Heavens, His Highness was going to sleep with a concubine tonight! Prince Jing’s harem was so empty that it didn’t seem like this was a prince’s residence. Now that His Majesty and the other princes forced him to accept some women, there were finally some concubines in his residence. However, all he did was assign some compounds to them and left them alone. So he never once favored anyone. But now His Highness was…

His Highness was finally asking for a concubine!

News that the prince was favoring a concubine tonight spread across the residence before long. The concubines that had gone lonely for so long were suddenly reinvigorated.

As the night drew close, Cheng Xiaoxiao finally woke up from her deep slumber. The moment she stirred, her stomach growled hungrily. When she touched her stomach, she recalled that she had yet to eat.

“Are you up?”

The moment she opened her eyes, her eyes met with Chu Yunshen’s.

When they looked at each other, Cheng Xiaoxiao sensed her face blushing. But since she was a cat, it could not be seen no matter how red it was.

“Bring up over the food you prepared,” he told Xiaowu. Xiaowu nodded and went out.

Cheng Xiaoxiao then realized someone was kneeling before her holding a tray filled with several shiny jade plates.

“Great timing. Pick one.” Chu Yunshen carried her up.

The man trembled at the thought that the prince wanted a cat to choose a jade plate. If any of the concubines found out that a cat picked them to serve the prince tonight, they would probably feel angry to vomit blood.

Pick one? What were these anyway?

As Cheng Xiaoxiao was dizzy with hunger, she could not be bothered with what they were for. Instead, she swung her paw and brushed a plate onto the ground.

The man quickly picked up the plate and handed it to the prince deferentially as he said, “Prince, it’s Miss Wan Yun.”

There was no change in Chu Yunshen’s expression as he said, “Okay. Off with you. Get her to come over later.”

Xiaowu came in, holding a tray filled with several plates. Cheng Xiaoxiao went over with an eager glint in her eyes. Then Xiaowu said happily, “See? I put in a lot of effort to catch them today!”

When Cheng Xiaoxiao saw the things in the plates clearly, she went, “…”

One of the plates was filled with skinned bloody dead rats. Another plate was filled neatly with three small fish. Finally, there was a mountain of sparrows on the last plate.

There was something in common with everything. They were all raw.

“Go on and eat. You don’t have to thank me!” said Xiaowu smugly.

Cheng Xiaoxiao wanted to kill herself now.

All she wanted to eat now were hamburgers, fried chicken wings, stewed pork knuckles, crystal dumplings, and lamb soup vermicelli!

When Chu Yunshen noticed the little cat’s exuberance instantly die down, he told Xiaowu, “She doesn’t like eating this.”

“But that’s what cats in my hometown eat.” Xiaowu was confused.

Chu Yunshen pondered and said, “Get them to make some milk paste. She just recovered and probably doesn’t have a good appetite yet.”

Xiaowu acknowledged him and went off to prepare it.

Before long, someone knocked on the door gently. Chu Yunshen was still wondering how best to rear the cat when Wan Yun’s gentle voice came from outside, “Your Highness… it’s me, Wan Yun.”

“Oh, come in.” He did not even look up.

After the door closed, Cheng Xiaoxiao glanced over unenergetically. Then she suddenly shuddered.

This scene was a little too damned exciting!

Wan Yun shyly removed her cape to reveal her body covered only in a pink belly wrap and a thin gauze robe. Her ivory-fair beautiful form was utterly alluring.

As she shyly stood where she was, Chu Yunshen remained deeply engrossed with Cheng Xiaoxiao. As he stroked the little fellow on its neck, he suddenly sensed something there. With a pull, he realized there was a little jade pendant hanging on the other end of the string.

What was that?

It was completely concealed by her abundant fur, so he had not noticed it before.

Although this jade pendant… did not seem odd in any way at first glance, it felt particularly cool to the touch. Even if she wore it for so long under the fur, it did not warm up the least bit.

All Cheng Xiaoxiao’s attention fell on Wan Yun, so she failed to notice Chu Yunshen studying her jade pendant for a while. She grabbed his hand and asked impatiently, “What is this woman doing here?”

Was he unfaithful to her?

Was he going to do it right in front of her?!

This scoundrel!

Only when she howled and bit his finger did Chu Yunshen finally put the jade pendant down. When he looked up, he was stunned, “Why are you dressed like this?”

Wan Yun was stunned, “I…I’m here to serve you.”

“Serve me?” said Chu Yunshen, “Go back and get changed before you come back.”

Although Wan Yun was caught by surprise, she swiftly came to a reaction. It seemed that the prince had a taste for something else instead. In that case, she had to get creative. Ever since the eighth prince sent her to the Prince Jing’s residence at her pleading, the prince gave her the cold shoulder.

So she had to bribe the person in charge of her jade pendant at a high price, to give her this chance. This time, she had to get pregnant with Chu Yunshen’s child no matter what it took! After she did, it would be like shooting fish in a barrel to become his consort!
