“Bossman, why you here, man” Marcus asked as he spotted me walking into the shop. “Why not? If I don’t come, you guys might get into trouble and burn this place down” I said in a teasing way. “Ha ha, not even, you really helped all of us out, so we owe you. There is no way we would intentionally let you down” Marcus said leaning against the car he was working on. “I know. How’s it going here” I asked. “Oh, you know, can’t complain. Business is good. Customers keep coming in and we keep doing what we gotta do” Marcus said. These guys know their stuff when it comes to fixing cars. “That’s good. Well, I’ll be in the office” I said and went upstairs. I opened my own service station a few years ago. In addition to gas, I also have mechanics in house to fix cars. The guys I hire are those who are down on their luck and need a helping hand. I didn’t intentionally make my business this way it just became like this. They are a good bunch of guys, rough guys, but still good guys. As I just sat down my phone starts ringing. I look at the caller ID. It’s Lara. My excitement was ridiculous. And my face couldn’t not smile. I answered the phone with “Lara you're still awake.” “Hi, yes, I was just thinking if I should text you or call. I decided to call, but now that I think about it you said you were just about to start work. I’m sorry. I didn’t really think before I called” she said sounding apologetic. “Lara, it’s ok. I’m just looking over some paperwork for the company. Basically, busying myself” I said. “Oh, you work in the office and do administrative stuff” she asked me. “Well, yes. I own the business.” I said a little sheepishly. “Oh, that’s fine. But then you probably really don’t have much time to talk then” she said. “I’ll make time for you” I rebutted. “Um, don’t worry about it. I’ll see you Thursday. Have a good day” she said a little rushed then disconnected the phone call. “Lara I….” I couldn’t even finish my sentence before the call was disconnected. So, I sent her a TEXT Orion: "You were not bothering me. Please call me when you wake up. Sweet dreams." I sighed long and loud. Bing TEXT Lara: "I will. Thank you!" “What’s wrong with your face,” Colin asked with a smirk as he was standing in the doorway. “What’s wrong with your eyes” I replied a little irritated. “Ohhhh, bossman, you in a bad mood now” Colin asked. “No, not really. What’s up” I asked. “I was just going to ask if I can bring a date on Thursday” Colin asked. “Sure” I replied. “Should we bring anything” he asked. “Nope. Just come” I said. “Alright” he stated as he walked away.
The day was not very eventful. Which is good because that means everything was running smoothly. At least for now. Calling it a day I start packing up. As I was walking down the stairs, I heard that the doors were being closed by Marcus. “How’d today go” I asked him and continued to walk out of the shop for him to lock and set alarm. “Ok. We had to order a part, but it won’t be in until tomorrow, other than that, business as usual” he supplied. “Alright. Have a good night. See you tomorrow” I said and walked to my car. Just when I was about to get into my car, my phone binged with an incoming text. After getting in and starting the engine, I grabbed my phone to see the text notification and saw an unexpected phone number. I didn't want to deal with this drama, so I called Crown instead. "What's up" Crown said in greeting. The background was a bit noisy, but I couldn't make out where he was. "What you doing? Let's do dinner" I asked. "Sure, I'll pick something up and head over to your place" Crown responded. "Sounds good" then the call was disconnected. I tossed my phone to the passenger’s seat, then drove out of the parking lot heading for home. While I was driving my thoughts returned back to that unexpected message. It's been so long, why now? I started to have a bad feeling, but I'm not sure why. The past is making its way back and I really don't want to face it. If this is the path I am supposed to be on, then I guess I better face it. The past came rushing back to me to the day that changed me to who I am today. I'm not ashamed of what I did, but there could have been a better way to handle things. I shook my head to let go of all memories. When I got home, I went straight to take a shower. I didn't need to wait for Crown; he can just let himself in.
The warm water of the shower calmed my nerves. The past needs to stay in the past. After that thought, I washed myself, got out, then got dressed. I heard someone rummaging in the kitchen. Crown must be here I thought. I walked down the hall and went into the kitchen. "Hey man, I bought Boston Market, choose one" he said while he was opening both food containers that he placed on the kitchen table. One container was meatloaf with various sides and cornbread, and the other was filled with chicken with various sides and cornbread. Instead of taking one already made container, I traded some meatloaf and chicken so we both had meatloaf and chicken. I then walked to the refrigerator and grabbed both of us a bottle of water, then we sat at the kitchen table. While we were eating, the most we talked was about work. Nothing special. The food was really good and hit the spot. After we finished eating, we cleaned up and sat on the couch. "So, what's up" Crown asked as he stretched out. "Someone from the past hit me up today" I replied. "Who" Crown asked curiously. I pressed my lips together into a thin line cause I wasn't sure how to say this. Instead of saying anything I took out my phone, pulled up the message, and showed Crown. Crown took the phone out of my hands and looked at the number first, then read the message. "Holy fuck man, what is this" he asked. "Man, I don't know. The phone number is obviously familiar, but the message is cryptic" I said. "Did you respond" he asked. I shook my head side to side. "I didn't know what to say and it pisses me off to get this message" I said with anger in my voice. "What you going to do" he asked. I shrugged my shoulders up. There was no ideas that came into my head. It would be easy to just ignore the message, but the sender would continue to pester me. "Do you need help" Crown asked. "Not now. Maybe it's just nothing" I said not believing that for a second. I grabbed my phone and looked at the message again trying to think of how to approach this. Just then another message comes through from the same number saying 2 words. I stared at the words having mixed feelings about the sender. "Is this a good thing or a bad thing" Crown asked after a while. "Man, I don't know" I said. And I really didn't know what I was going to do. I looked at my phone again wondering what would come next. These 2 words could mean anything.
Lara So, I’m still totally freaking out right now. Am I really going to be in a relationship with both of them? It’s been a few weeks since Crown and I were together. Well, not together together, but enough to enjoy the feelings our touches were making us feel. I don’t exactly know how to feel about it. I mean, I crossed the lines, and it feels weird. I’ve been avoiding them. Well, as much as I can avoid two men trying to take care of me. “Ok, I’ve been very patient with you,” Shan asked me as we were walking to our cars after our shift. “What do you mean,” I asked her. “Well, you seem different or maybe something’s on your mind, but I can’t really say what,” she said. I shrugged my shoulders. “Is everything ok at home,” she asked me. “Yes, it’s ok,” I replied. Please, please, please just drop it, I thought. “If you need to talk, I’m here. I won’t judge much,” she said chuckling. I laughed at her. “Well, we are both off tonight, you want to do something,” she as
JohannaI can hear people talking around me, but I’m stuck in my body. I can’t move. I can’t talk. I can’t do anything. That incessant beeping is driving me crazy. Where the hell am I? What happened to me? Think Hanna, think. Ok, I met with… Who did I meet up with? Hmm, I thought through the events that happened. There was a guy. I had to meet a guy because… Oh, think, think. Gregory, or Greg. Yes, I had to meet up with Greg. Why did I have to meet up with him? Uh. I was getting angry at my memory. I could hear people talking around me, but I couldn’t move or talk to them! Visions of people laughing and talking and dancing kept playing in my mind. There was a couple memories coming to mind. “We are totally banking it,” a girl’s voice said in my memory. “Yeup, easy money,” another voice said. I think it was another girl. “Stop talking about it, someone might overhear you,” another voice said. It was my voice, or I think it was my voice. Argh, I can’t remember. “
Crown After Orion left, we walked back into the bedroom and sat on the loveseat. “Lara, please tell me the whole truth. I know something is bothering you and it’s not just me and Orion,” I told her. I let her take her time answering. It’s not easy to open up to someone. You may be comfortable and trust a person, but that comfort and trust has boundaries. It took her a while to respond. “When I was young, I used to have these dreams. Recurring vivid dreams. Kind of like a memory, but not my memory, because I was young. I was fighting or trying to fight,” she said as she was gesturing with her arms. “Scared. I was scared. I was thrown into a cave. A man or older boy was laughing, he said stay here I’ll come back. He never did. I heard other people there also laughing but I couldn’t see them. I think I was in the cave for 2 days because there was darkness then light, then darkness then light again,” she said. I can see the toll it’s taking on her, but it still doesn
Lara “Crown, that smells so good,” I said as I dramatically inhaled the scents coming from the pot and pan on the stove. “You do know I already ate breakfast,” I said with a smile on my face. “I do. This is for later,” Crown responded as he pointed to the food he was cooking. “You know, I just might have to correct myself with my co-workers and say I am dating both of you,” I said with a laugh and sat at the table with Orion. Before I walked into the kitchen I felt tension in the air, but I didn’t understand it. After my comment, it didn’t escape me that both Crown and Orion stiffened. “What do you mean,” Orion scowled at me. “Well, just that one time both of you dropped me off and picked me up from work. They made a few observations to me,” I said nonchalantly. “What kind of observations,” Crown asked. “You guys, why so serious? My single co-workers are excited because you two are so goodlooking. My married co-workers are living vicariously through me because you two
Lara The days flew by, and I’m not sure why. It could be that Orion and I are becoming closer to each other. We’ve been alternating where we spent our time. The days I stayed at his house Crown would come over. Sometimes he’d come over when I was at my house, but that wasn’t often. This morning Shan and I just got off of our shift and while walking to the parking garage we heard, “hey, let’s do breakfast.” We turned around towards the voice. It was Dr. Cameron. “Hey doc,” we said in unison. “I’m down if you are,” Shan said. “Ok,” I said as I took out my phone and group text Orion and Crown. Text: LARA: I’m going to breakfast with Shan and Doc Cameron. I’ll be home after. “Pancake House or somewhere else,” Doc said. “Pancake House,” Shan said. “Pancake House,” I said. “Pancake House,” Nelly said walking up to us. “Me too,” Dani said. “Perfect. Let’s go,” Doc said. After that everyone went to their own cars to meet at the Pancake House. Shan and I were parked ri
Mr. Green When I sat down at a table, the woman that was sitting alone looked up. Surprise on her face. Not obvious, but it was there. “We meet again,” I said in a monotoned hushed voice. The only response was her lips pressing into a thin line. “Why do you keep following me,” I asked, looking into her eyes. She stayed silent. I also stayed silent. We sat at this table staring at each other saying nothing. “Sir,” a server said hesitantly. “Yes,” I answered her but kept my eyes on the woman across from me. “Is there something we can help you with, sir,” the server said again. “No,” I answered again. “But sir, this is not suitable for you,” the server sounded a little distressed. “This is fine,” I said impatiently. “But,” the waitress tried again. “Leave,” I commanded. The server jumped a little. “Yes, sir,” she said softly walking away. The woman across from me shifted her eyes to the server walking away. The lips that were pressed into a thin line became even
Orion The ring of a phone sounded in the silent room. “Hey,” I heard Crown say. Crown was chilling on the couch. I was lounging on the single sofa seat. “When,” Crown spoke into the phone. He sounded a bit alarmed. “Show me,” he said, then he put his Bluetooth earpiece over his ear and look
Lara Waking up was a chore. I really didn’t want to wake up but did it anyways. Life seemed pleasant at the moment. So, not wanting to get up isn’t due to laziness or no motivation. It’s because of Orion and Crown. I’m happy that they stayed until I fell asleep. Orion would have checked the ho
Crown As I was driving to my place, my thoughts were thinking about all the weird stuff that has been happening. Who’s the target? It could be Orion. He lives here and all the coincidences surround him. But then, they could be using him to get to me. Then, there’s Lara. She is a bit mysterious
Lara “You guys are spoiling me. I'll see you in the morning, “I said to Orion and Crown as I was getting out of the car by the emergency room. “We’ll be here waiting,” Orion said. Crown who was sitting in back also got out. He smiled at me, and I gave him a hug. I don’t know why I did that, but
