Yvonne’s POV

“You know, I really appreciate you for saving my life,” Liam began again when I thought we didn't know what to say to each other, his voice calm but steady which made it hard to ignore. “Because honestly, I don’t know what would have happened if you hadn’t intervened. That was… a pretty impressive rescue.”

He smiled faintly, and even though he was trying to make it sound casual, there was something sincere about his tone that made me glance at him. I could tell he actually meant it, and that alone made me uncomfortable. I wasn’t used to people thanking me for anything.

I gave a small shrug and tried not to meet his gaze. “You already said something like that before,” I muttered.

He let out a quiet chuckle and leaned back a little. “Yeah, I know, but I had to say it again. You were the same girl I met at the gymnasium— the one who wouldn’t even give me five seconds to talk. And yet, somehow, fate decided to throw us back together.” He paused and looked at me with this soft
