Chapter 5

Autor: Spring
Yvonne watched the scene unfold, and it felt as if her heart had been ripped from her chest.

The two sons she had brought into the world, the very children she had raised with all her love, were pushing Justin toward another woman right before her eyes.

Justin’s kiss was long and deliberate before he finally let Sophia go. A thread of intimate tension lingered between them like a silver wire.

Sophia’s cheeks burned crimson, and she lowered her gaze in embarrassment.

“Sorry.” Justin’s voice was husky, almost tender. “I lost my balance just now.”

Then, he looked at Milton and Travis. “What are you two doing?”

Even though his tone was stern, Yvonne knew him too well. Beneath that voice and that look, he enjoyed the kiss more than anyone could ever know.

Justin turned to Yvonne and offered an explanation. “It was an accident. The kids were just being playful. Don’t read too much into it.”

Yvonne shook her head slowly. “I’m not reading into it.”

She really was not.

Be it the father or the sons, she did not want any of them anymore.

After the Ferris wheel ride, they went to watch the parade of floats. The night was alive with dazzling lights and laughter, and the floats moved slowly through the crowd.

Then, chaos struck. One of the horses pulling a float got spooked, rearing and charging into the crowd!

“Watch out!”

In the chaos, Yvonne saw Justin and the two kids rush to Sophia, shielding her tightly under their arms. She was left alone, shoved down by the panicked crowd.

Agonizing pain exploded through her body. A horse’s hoof crushed her ribs, and a wheel rolled over her legs. She heard the sickening snap of bone. Her vision went black. She lost consciousness.

When Yvonne woke, the hospital room was silent. She forced herself upright. Every movement sent jagged waves of pain through her ribs and legs. Cold sweat dripped down her temples.

Her hand reached for the phone on the bedside table. Right then, the screen lit up. It was a social media notification from Sophia.

The photo showed Justin and the two kids at her hospital bed. One held a cup of warm water while the other held medicine. Justin was gently tucking her in.

The caption read: [It feels so good to be loved.]

Yvonne tugged bitterly at the corners of her mouth and set the phone down.

The doctor entered, flipping through her reports. “Ms. Johansson, you’ve fractured three ribs and have a hairline fracture in your left tibia. You’ll need to stay a few days for observation.”

He looked around. “Where's your family? Someone needs to sign for you.”

Yvonne answered calmly, “I have no family.”

The next few days, the room remained empty.

The nurses looked at her with pity, occasionally slipping her an extra box of painkillers.

It was not until her discharge day that Justin finally arrived. He was late, as always.

“Sophia got a fright and couldn’t be left alone these past few days.” Justin’s voice was indifferent. “How’s your recovery? Do you need to stay a few more days? I can bring the kids over to help take care of you.”

Yvonne shook her head. “No, thank you. Don’t let me get in the way.”

Justin frowned slightly. He had always been so busy with work, yet even an hour with him could brighten her for days. Now, she was rejecting him?

He did not dwell on it. Instead, he instructed the driver to head to a high-end designer boutique downtown.

Inside, lights glittered across the showroom. Justin held up dress after dress against her.

Yvonne murmured, thinking that he was trying to make up to her, “No, I don’t need this. I don’t like any of these—”

“Don’t like them?” interrupted Justin, “Sophia’s birthday is approaching. I’d like to commission the perfect dress for her.”

He studied her figure. “You’re roughly the same size as her. I brought you to try them on.”

Yvonne let out a bitter laugh. She was laughing at her own foolish hope, laughing at how he knew exactly where to hurt her to cause the most pain.

For three hours, she was a puppet, trying on one dress after another under his scrutinizing eye. Finally, he chose a diamond-studded mermaid gown.

“This one.”

Back home, he tossed her a paper bag. “Picked this up for you while I was at it.”

Yvonne glanced inside. It was a freebie from the boutique—a plain black dress with a tag that read 'Gift with Purchase'. She took it and let out a faint, emotionless hum. Once she was in her room, she tossed it straight into the trash.

She returned to the country with Justin. Inside the villa, the maids bustled about. Milton and Travis ran straight downstairs when they heard the noises.“Mom!”“Mom! Are you staying this time? We were wrong before. Mom, we love you the most!”Even though Travis still struggled to speak, seeing her stirred a deep yearning he could no longer suppress.Yvonne noticed the injuries on their bodies, but what did it matter to her? She had not just left Justin. She had left both Milton and Travis too.Despite the kids’ eager words, she replied only with a detached calm. After just a few sentences, it was as though they had already realized the truth, their eyes welling up with unshed tears.“Mom, do you really not want us anymore…”Yvonne glanced at them, about to reply, but Justin interrupted, “Don’t say that. I need to show her something first. You two stay here and behave.”His voice was gentle, and Yvonne simply followed him without a word.He led her to the basement. It was the

Unfortunately, Justin realized his mistake far too late, which allowed her to leave. However, he had thought everything through now. If Yvonne could forgive him, he would do anything she asked. The thought of her returning to his side filled Justin with a quiet, overwhelming happiness that spread through his chest. It made him ache with anticipation to see her again. After an eight-hour flight, Justin finally touched down. Heart pounding with impatience, he raced toward the place they had agreed upon, eager to see the woman he loved. The meeting place was a small café. When Justin pushed open the door, the bell jingled, and he immediately saw Yvonne sitting in the corner.A month had passed since he last saw her, but it felt like an entire year of torment. Justin was struck by a dizzying sense of disbelief when he finally saw her.She had changed. When she had been by his side before, she had always dressed simply to take care of the household. Now, she wore casual clothes. He

As excessive blood loss took its toll, Justin's breathing grew weaker and weaker. Someone hurriedly lifted him up, but all he could think about was finding Yvonne.Through the haze, fragments of the past began to replay before his eyes. When he learned that Sophia had died in an accident, he drowned himself in alcohol every day, so lost and broken that he was barely human. Even his family had given up on him.It was Yvonne who had stayed by his side. She watched over him and cared for him. When he drank himself unconscious, she made him a hangover tonic. When he suffered from stomach bleeding, she stayed up all night to take care of him. She even stepped in to handle company matters for him, devoting her whole heart to him.It was not that he had not noticed. It was just that Sophia’s death had hit him too hard.Until one day, when he mistook her for someone else and pinned her beneath him, he was finally forced to face their relationship.Back then, did he love Yvonne?Later, o

Justin spoke with absolute certainty. Sophia clutched her head, crying and screaming like she had gone mad. It felt as though she had never known this man before. The suffocating pressure Justin gave off made it hard for her to breathe.“Justin, what are you trying to do? Everything I did… I did it so we could be together!”“When did I ever say I would be with you? Yvonne will be my wife for the rest of her life. You can never replace her.”Justin's tone was cold, like the calm before a storm. It made Sophia tremble. Tears streamed down her face as she stared at him, shaking.“You clearly didn’t care about Yvonne! If you cared, would you have slept in the same bed with me? If you cared, would you have let her hands be ruined? If you cared, would you have treated me so well? You have feelings for me too! You don't love Yvonne as much as you think you do!”She screamed at the top of her lungs, only to be met with an even colder gaze.“And you dare compare yourself to Yvonne? What d

Justin turned away coldly. Just as he reached the door, a scream rang out behind him. He turned around and saw Sophia rushing at him with a scalpel, driving it viciously into his body.Having lost her last shred of hope, the hatred in her eyes was unmistakable, almost splitting them wide open. Her expression had turned completely deranged. Her frail body was still smeared with traces of the aborted fetus. With bloodshot eyes, she yanked the scalpel out and stabbed again. The metallic scent of blood thickened in the air, but she did not care. Her gaze was fixed solely on the man who had tormented her all this time. This was her only chance for revenge.“Justin! Let’s die together!”Hatred consumed her entirely. As she watched the blade sink into his body, she felt a twisted sense of satisfaction. When she tried to stab him again, Justin grabbed the scalpel tightly. The blade cut into his palm, drawing blood. With a sudden burst of force, he flung the crazed woman aside, his eyes

Sophia was dragged to the basement. She had been locked up for three full days. There was no food, no water, and not even a sliver of light. She could not tell day from night, nor how much time had passed.By the time her mind had drifted to the edge of delirium, the heavy door finally swung open.A blinding light flooded in. Sophia did not react at first, staring dumbly at the doorway.A man’s gaze lingered on her from above.Slowly, her dulled mind registered the attention, and her eyes focused toward the source. It was Justin. For a moment, hope surged through her. She scrambled to her feet and clutched at his legs.“Justin! I know I was wrong, I really do! Please forgive me! I’ll change! I’ll never do those things again! It was all my fault before. Just forgive me and I’ll do anything! Justin, please save me! Don’t do this! I’m so scared… So scared… And… And… And I’m already carrying your child!”Her voice cracked with tears. The fear in her eyes was not fake, but it was mi
