Chapter 21

Eloise was buried in work when she heard about Jonathan's accident. It was Marie who broke the news.

"The investigators pulled the footage from that night. He did it on purpose. Foot to the floor, he drove straight into a stone wall.

"The car exploded, and they barely saved him. Now, his mind's stuck at the level of a seven-year-old… again."

There were some things Marie left unsaid.

Fate was a twisted thing. After the crash, Jonathan forgot everything and everyone, except Eloise.

He would mumble her name and wouldn't let go of their old photo. He refused to stay anywhere but the villa they once lived in.

Sharon added with a sigh, "There's more, Lou… Your parents died in a fire."

In reality, Helena had been spiralling for a while. She had been guilt-ridden whenever she recalled how horribly she had treated Eloise.

Fights with David became a daily occurrence, and the company slowly fell apart.
