Eve’s pov

“As you all know I once had a daughter, Mia. Losing her was hell for me, it left a hole I never thought could be filled. Then, years later, I met this incredible young woman — kind hearted, sharp as a wipe, and fighting her own battles with so much grace mustered up in her.” He turned and sent me a small smile before continuing with his speech.

“You didn’t replace Mia. No one could ever, but…” He paused for a while. He was having a rush of emotions. I could see him trying to hold it back.

“But somehow you stepped in — gently, patiently, and filled a space I didn’t even know was still open. You let me be a father again. A proud one at that.” A sob escaped him.

Arthur may look tough on the outside but he is the sweetest person I have ever met. He gave me a new life and he is the reason I am standing here today with all I have attached to my name.

“I’m so sorry, I’m stealing the moment again.” He chuckled and the crowd had a quiet laugh.

“To the bride and groom!.” He raised his glass.

His every word opened up emotions in me I thought I buried a long time ago. For the first time, I more than appreciate him for being my father and not just my life saver or changer.

He must not have been able to spend time with his daughter as much as he wanted, but he sure does treat me as his.

The corner of my eyes well in tears, I cheers to his toast but that happiness was immediately taken away from me with Logan’s next statement

“Poor man, he doesn't even know his daughter is a murder.” He whispered enough for me to hear.

My eyes widened in horror. How can he say that here in front of all these people, what if someone hears.

“Relax your nerves, it's too early for me to expose you. I will only be making things easy for you that way.” His lips lifted for a smirk.

“Don’t you dare..” I wasn’t able to complete my sentence before we had several people walk up to us to congratulate us.

Fighting with him might not be a good idea but I am not one to bend down to threats. I always had a sharp tongue and that is how I have been able to survive most for my life. But in this case I think I should control what I say and how I say it.

Logan lost his brother due to that incident and he is the grieving one, but I also lost my life— The majority of my teenage years. So threatening me with something my father did is not his best move but he obviously doesn’t care. He doesn’t have anything to lose, but I do.

“Congratulations Eve.” I turned to the side when I heard a familiar voice — It was my best friend or should I say my sister from another mother. Stacy.

“Come here.” I pulled her in for a hug. We stayed that way for a while before letting go of each other.

“You look so stunning,  I almost didn't recognize you.” She grinned from ear to ear.

“Thank you Stacy, you look amazing.” I couldn’t hold back myself and a sob escaped me. I missed her so much.

Stacy has been my friend for as long as I can remember. She is my backbone.

Years back when I was alone and struggling to pay my bills she would sometimes cover up for me no matter how much I refused, and she also helped me secure a part time job I was able to survive on. She may not have been in the same league as me, but she never treated me differently.

As much as she was against my marriage to Brian she showed up for me as my only family present there and yet again she is  here for me again. I could never repay her; she's my guardian angel.

“Hey now..  don’t ruin your makeup bride.” She teased me and I let out a gentle smile..

“Come on, meet Logan.” I turned to introduce Logan to Stacy.

Stacy is one sensitive person. She could pick out the littlest fishy thing. Not introducing her might make her suspect something was going on between Logan and I,  because according to what I told her over the phone a few weeks back,  I finally found my missing ribs. Now she believes I am in love and would be in a healthy marriage this time around.

Well.., she didn’t think wrong but her idea of being in a perfect marriage was far from me.

I also thought I finally found my person but it turns out I might be in bed with the devil himself.

When I first met Logan at dinner, he radiant power and an aura I couldn't lay my fingers on, but I knew for sure that he was better than the four or five guys I had to go on dates with at my father’s request.

He is everything I want in a man. But my happiness with him seems to be short-lived. Who would think he would suddenly turn into a monster to me because of something that happened years back and some fake news from my ex husband would get to him too easily.

I won’t blame him for hating me about his late brother but thinking so low of me because of Brian makes my heart burn and my stomach turn.

“Logan met my friend Stacy.” I forced a smile. I told him about her once in a conversation.

“It’s nice to finally meet you Mr Logan Maxwell and congratulations on your wedding.” Stacy stretched her hand for a handshake with Logan. At first he hesitated to take it, but he eventually did.

“Thank you.”

His eyes were empty most of the time but for some reason I saw a glimpse of amusement in his eyes. He was up to something in his head.

“Mrs Stacy, why don’t you tell me a little about your friendship with my wife here?” His question wasn't supposed to sound creepy, but it did. He just wanted to get under my skin; since all he calls me now is — two faced.

“I would love to Mr Logan, but I have to be somewhere soon. Stacy said, looking at her wrist for the time. I wasn’t aware she would leave so soon. I hate how it made me feel relieved.

“Stacy..”  I called her to attention.

“Are you leaving?” The disappointment in my voice was evident.

I mean, I haven’t seen her for years.

“Yes Eve, I am going to catch up with you some other time. She kissed me on my cheeks and bowed her head to Logan before taking her leave.

Normally I wouldn’t have let her go so easily but, she seemed to be in a hurry and even if she couldn’t stay for long, her short stay means a lot to me.

I looked over the crowd's head as she walked away when I saw a familiar face.

“Is that..?”

  • Love-Hate Revenge    Chapter Eighteen: I’m In Between

Logan’s POV I had some late night work to do at the office since tomorrow myself, Emily and two faced will be having our first shoot for the brand opening. Maybe I was giving myself an excuse and I was trying to overwork myself just so I would not have to see two faced in my sleep. I was getting tired of it and for some reason the dreams were getting better. The other night I knocked myself out hoping it would work and it didn’t. I only ended up suffering from a hangover. I wanted to be alone, so I sent my secretary and assistant home. It was over work hours and the building was quieter than it normally is. I stood at the window side of my office. The view was excellent. It used to be my late brother's office. Even if most people say a CEO should be at a bigger office, I didn’t mind. I loved the place since it makes me feel close to Marcus and it happens to be the last place I saw him. The glass of Scotch in my hand tasted better than it has in a while. I had to think of the bes

  • Love-Hate Revenge    Chapter Seventeen: A Friend

Eve’s POV I came back from my morning run. It wasn’t something I did often but it feels good when I do. I somehow ran into Mark and we decided to grab coffee together since he said he has some information for me. It happens that the fire outbreak wasn’t from the electrical room as the fire fighters suspected, it was from the underground storage house which was directly under the electrical room and that was why when the fire came to the surface the electrical room was the first place that got affected. It all made more sense now. I was glad we were getting closer to the issue. We were done drinking our coffee and we were about to leave when I got a text from my dad. He wanted to see me. I haven’t been able to see him for a while and this was the best opportunity. I didn't hesitate to tell him I would be coming around for breakfast. Since it was my old home, and it’s still my home I didn’t mind going there in my gym clothes. “You’ve forgotten about your old man huh?” My dad pulle

  • Love-Hate Revenge    Chapter Sixteen: Still Remembered

Logan’s pov I saw the jar at the auction and I almost lost my mind or maybe it wasn't it, but I didn’t mind before spending a million dollars on it. It might just have been a normal jar to every other person, but to me it meant something special. It was the first gift I received from my late brother when we were still kids. We traveled down to the Asian region on a business trip with our parents. We went for a random street shopping but we ended up surprising each other with a gift and it happened to be the same extra jar. I remember how we laughed at each other’s taste and for the fact that we are in each other's minds. If men have a male soulmate I am sure he was mine. I walked up to the stage with Eve later on to give a quick speech before the actual partying began. The glam night might have been held for years and this is the second time I was attending it, but this time around because it was hosted by a friend. My gaze met with Eve’s. I must admit she looked really beau

  • Love-Hate Revenge    Chapter Fifteen: The Glam Night

Eve’s POV “Good day ladies and gentlemen, I welcome you all to the Tenth edition of The Glam Night.” The master of ceremonies announced as we were all seated. Everyone was dressed beautifully and the place was filled with beautiful colors matched together. After Logan came by my office earlier, I didn't ask any questions, I just followed him like he wanted. It was becoming a thing for our drives together to be quiet and awkward, and I was slowly getting used to it.Most husbands and wives would talk about how their day went and stuff going on, but with Logan I knew for sure I couldn’t do that. Thanks to Mark, the silence broke for a while when I received a call from him. I picked up on the second ring with hopes to get good news, but unfortunately the investigation wasn’t getting anywhere yet. I told him to make sure they leave no stone unturned, and the Mark I know will go the extra mile if he has to, just to get to the bottom of it, and that is why I trusted him to handle thin

  • Love-Hate Revenge    Chapter Fourteen: Ends Meet

Eve’s POV “Good morning Eve this is the document you ask for.” Mark handed me a file as I made my way into the building. “Thank you Mark.” I sent him a small smile as we took huge steps together toward the conference room. I have a thing for being punctual. After having my dinner last night, I put a call through to Mark and asked him to compile some documents which I would be proposing to each member of the board. And a few minutes after I was done talking to Mark, Logan came home. At first it looked like he was going to pass by like I wasn’t there but then he stopped and he told me that we would be going to an event by evening today. It was an event where top big business figures would be, and I had to show up with him to give our marriage and businesses a good name and make us look responsible. Although our conversations may have been short and simple and only about business, I was glad he wasn't ghosting me after all. He told me that we would be going for an event today but

  • Love-Hate Revenge    Chapter Thirteen: At The Edge

Eve's POV I hit my bed with a thud. It was a really long day. I decided to take a long bath while reading my favorite novel. After the press conference, I told Mark to set a meeting with the board of directors tomorrow. A flashback of how people looked at me when the reporter accused me of lying my way into becoming Mr Arthur's daughter sent a shiver down my spine. I refused to answer the question I was asked, and I ended the press conference not because I was afraid of what people would say or think, but because people will always believe what they want to. If I try to explain or defend myself it will only make me look guilty. Arthur gave me an opportunity and I will never take it for granted. I will never stop proving to myself or to him how grateful I am. I signed heavily. I soaked myself deeply into the bathtub that was filled with warm water ,and buried my head in the water for a while. It was peaceful. I was feeling better after having my long hot bath. My head and my m
