Aliya’s POV

What do you call a woman who has been betrayed by everyone she’s ever loved? Whatever the name is, then that is what I was, unfortunately.

I returned back to the house exactly at midnight, and he was gone. The man I thought and hoped I’d spend my entire life with was gone.

As I walked into my bedroom, it felt empty. Although filled with furniture and other stuff, it still felt empty. Somehow, I had hoped he’d disobey me and not leave—but he did, and now I was glad he did. It was for the best.

He lied to me numerous times, played me for a fool, used me like I was worth nothing to him. I was just a pawn in his silly revenge game, and now I knew better.

Letting out a deep sigh, I stripped off my clothes, letting them fall to the floor like discarded memories. I walked into the bathroom, my bare feet soundless against the cold tile.

I paused in front of the mirror, staring at the naked woman reflected back at me. Hollow eyes. Bruised soul. I stepped into the tub,

Liam’s POVThe last time I was able to stand on my own was three months ago—just before Aliya discovered the truth and cast me out of her life.I had walked out of her house, and from that moment on, my existence had been nothing but pain. A blur of sterile hospital rooms, relentless treatment, and therapy sessions that, frankly, weren’t doing a damn thing for me.The doctor called me a fighter. Said I had a will stronger than most—clinging to life no matter what fresh hell my body threw at me. He told me to let go of the past, especially Aliya, and focus on healing. But I couldn’t. Not for a second. Not a day passed without her haunting my thoughts. I’d drive to her gate, park discreetly, and sit in the shadows, watching. I kept my eyes on her bedroom window, observing when the lights flicked on, when they dimmed again. I lingered in the dark like a ghost, ensuring nothing and no one could harm her. I knew she wasn’t ready to face me. So I gave her space—even if every minute without

  • Love, Lies and Billions   Chapter 64

Aliya’s POV I pulled over in front of the address Wellington had given me. “Can’t believe I’m really doing this,” I muttered, grabbing my dark shades and slipping them on before stepping out of the car. The sun grazed my skin and my heels clicked against the pavement as I stopped before door 13. The door number was written on the paper I had been given earlier. I knocked once, then twice, waiting patiently but received no reply. “Hello?” I called out, tapping a third time. “Nala, it’s me, Aliya.” After spending a minute or two standing there for someone who likely didn’t want to see me, I turned on my heel, ready to leave. As I walked away, the door creaked open and a raspy voice called out, “What do you want?” I turned back slowly to find Nala standing in the doorway. Her hair was no different from a bird’s nest, her puffy eyes just as visible as the food stains on her clothes even from the distance I stood. This wasn’t the Nala I knew. They had broken her t

Liam’s POV I sat, spiraled on the couch, trying to look composed before Aliya arrived home. I had just returned from one of the numerous tests they kept running on me at the hospital, and each time I looked at myself in the mirror, I was changing—and she was noticing. I had been planning to tell her the whole truth for weeks now, but I couldn’t find the words to say it. When the time was right, then I would. But for now—for now, I’ll let things unfold gradually. My phone buzzed, pulling me out of my thoughts. I reached for the table where the device lay and picked it up after seeing it was Brooke. “It’s over, Liam,” Brooke said, her voice laced with something I couldn’t quite identify. My brows furrowed. “What do you mean it’s over?” I asked sharply. She let out a deep sigh before continuing. “You might hate me after this, but I only want the best for us, and at this point, this was the best thing I could do.” I clenched the phone tightly, my head swirling with diffe

Aliya’s POV “The Truth.” I stared at those two words, reading them over and over again. My fingers hovered above the page, trembling with hesitation. Just as I was about to keep reading, a familiar voice came through the receiver—sharp, female, and so unmistakable that it made my entire body tense. “There’s a reason why things happen the way they do, Aliya. But the biggest one… is that you were born a Van Alen.” I froze and my heart dropped. I knew that voice. I could never mistake it—not in a million years. “Hello?” I yanked the phone closer to my mouth, yelling into the receiver. “Hello?!” But the line had already gone dead. “No. No, it can’t be what I’m thinking. It’s impossible.” I dropped the phone like it had scorched my skin, a bitter, shaky laugh tumbling out of my throat. My chest felt tight—like something heavy had just been placed on it. Trying to compose myself, I turned my attention back to the sheet of paper I was holding. My eyes landed again on the

  • Love, Lies and Billions   Chapter 60

Aliya’s POV A week had passed since Nala planted that seed in my head, and sleep had evaded me ever since. Every time I tried to get some shut-eye, I had the same dream. My dad is in a red suit, black horns pointing out of his forehead, a trident in his hands, and a demonic smirk plastered on his face. Five minutes into the dream, I find myself strapped to a chair. On my left is my mum, also bound, tears streaming down her beautiful face. I yell and call out to her, but before she can understand and turn her head in my direction, she’s stabbed in the heart by Vinichi—by my dad. I always wake up drenched in sweat, to Nick’s worried face and a glass of water in his hands. The dream—no, the nightmare—always leaves me with one thing: that satisfied smirk on Vinichi’s face. It’s burned into my memory, and every effort to think of something else becomes futile. Nick constantly bombards me with questions about what’s been going on, but what can I tell him, huh? That I have nigh

Aliya’s POV “William?” I shook my head in disbelief. “That’s impossible. For all I know, you could be making this up just to get me to help you.” “I may be a lot of things, but I would never make up something like this,” Nala said, her tone tinged with disappointment. “Open your mind, Aliya. If no one else has told you this, then let me be the first. You’re too naive. I’m not insane enough to bring this up if I didn’t think I could gather real evidence.” My eyes stung. Was I really naive just because I refused to believe the man I’d known as a second father—though technically a butler—had helped end my mother’s life? No. That was literally impossible. William was a kind soul. He couldn’t have. Nala stood, walked up to me, and held my hands. “Aliya, I swear to you, this is the truth. All you have to do is help me get back into that mansion so I can secure some inheritance for my mother and me, and I’ll help you search for the evidence. Just get Camille out.” I didn’t kn

Aliya’s POVCuriosity overwhelmed me as I twirled in my seat. Documents lay before me awaiting my signature, but all I could do was fidget—waiting for Nala like my life depended on it. Suddenly, a knock came at the door, jolting me. “Hi, ma’am.” My other assistant who had filled in for Brooke, walked in with a practiced smile. For some reason, Brooke hadn’t come to work for two days now, and I couldn’t reach her either. I had this nagging feeling that something was terribly wrong, though I couldn’t quite place what. “A certain Miss Nala is here to—” “Send her in.” I cut her off quickly, startling her for a brief moment. With a nod, she exited, and seconds later the door opened again, revealing Nala. She offered a faint smile, standing just at the entrance. “Never thought I’d be this eager to talk to you, sis.” “Neither did I,” I replied. “Please, come in.” Nala moved with poise—like the queen she had always forced herself into becoming. Her red heels clicked acros

Third Person’s POVNala paced the room, then turned abruptly and threw a dart at the wall missing, her target.“Fuck!” she cried out, running a hand through her damp hair.“Let’s do this one last time,” she muttered, stepping back, narrowing her eyes, then aiming again. This time, the dart landed precisely on the spot she wanted—Camille’s forehead.“Bingo!” she cheered.“Let’s see how you make baseless accusations without a brain to think with,” Nala laughed hysterically, picking up the glass of scotch from the table and downing it in one go.She threw herself onto the bed, eyes staring at the unfamiliar ceiling. She had spent two nights already at the Masini Hotel and was beginning to lose her mind.Just two nights ago, she had been seated by the pool at the Van Alen mansion, punching on her cell phone and giggling like a little girl, when Camille stormed in.“What’s so funny?” Camille hovered above her, crossing her arms over her chest.Nala raised her eyes slowly, gazing at her bri
