Chapter 4

Yana's PoV

Damon dropped me off about an hour ago and I can finally breathe. I'm convinced he is bipolar because for the duration of the ride, he behaved as if we were actually in a relationship!

My migraine got triggered from crying my eyes out and eating an entire box of Ferrero Roche since I got home. Thoughts of Zach kept racing through my mind: What is he doing? Is he okay? Does he remember me?

My subconscious snickers, perhaps he is balls deep in another willing woman Yana.

Groaning, I plop unto the couch and cover my eyes with my hand. I must have fallen asleep because I was awakened with a painful slap to my leg.

Laura, my older sister, smiles brightly. "Weren't you supposed to call me as soon as you got home?"

Rubbing my eyes tiredly, I sigh, then stand up stretching. "Misery loves company Laura. I'm not in the mood."

She gasps, "What the hell crawled up your ass and died?"

I hiss my teeth, headed to the kitchen and grabbed a water. "Damon was his usual self, but then I met a guy, and we connected..."

Laura clapped her hands happily, "Screw Damon, tell me about this guy."

I relayed everything about Zach, excluding the money part, but Laura could tell there was more.

"What are you NOT telling me, Yana?" She narrowed her eyes to mere slits.

Running my hands down my face, I groan in frustration. "I may have used the last of my savings to book him a room because he was in a bind."

Laura's face paled, then morphed into anger. I took several steps back because she will definitely yell and slap me.

"Yana!" She shouts, "You have got to be kidding me!"

I move to the opposite side of the island. "Laura, I didn't have a choice, and you know that's how I am."

She grabbed the towel and threw it at me but I caught it. "How many times do I have to tell you that you can't be Mother Teresa to everyone?"

She's right, but I'm standing by my decision. Yes, people have taken advantage of my kindness before, but not everyone is the same.

"Calm down Laura." I clasp my hands, gesturing toward her. "I know you don't agree with what I 6 the deed is already done."

Laura looked at me and shook her head in dismay. "That's the problem, Yana. You don't think things through!"

I scoffed at her comment, "That's a low blow Laura."

She threw her hands up in frustration. "Did you stop to think that Alex's chemo is taking a financial toll on me?" Laura  slammed her hands unto the island. "I can't support you as much anymore, Yana."

Shit! When the tears rolled down her cheeks, I knew I messed up.

Rushing toward her, I hugged Laura tightly as we both cried. She always helped out with my student loans because my salary was entry-level.

"I'm sorry, Laura, but we'll get through this, okay?" I reassured her.

She nodded but remained silent. I knew she was stressed because Dylan walked out on them after Alex's diagnosis. But I never realised the extent she went to, just to ensure Alex and I were good.

"Sis, I don't want to jinx anything, but I'm actually due for a promotion this quarter."

Laura pulled back, her mouth agape. "Wh

..what? Why didn't you tell me before?"

I smiled sheepishly, "Because I wanted to get it, then surprise you."

Wiping her tears, she slapped my shoulder. "That better be the only thing you're keeping from me..." She caressed my cheek, "I'm so proud of you, sis."

We hugged once more before she sat down. "So you really like Zach, huh?"

I blush, "I wish you could've met him, sis. He was just so different."

She snickered, "That's what you said about the last two assholes Yana! You almost had me catching a charge for those bitch ass niggas!"

Laughter erupted between us. Laura literally threatened to cut their dicks off because they played me.

"No,no. I'm being serious this time. He didn't even want me to help him, but I insisted."

Laura sighed, "You're too good and pure for this world."

My phone ringing interrupted our moment. As I picked it up, I rolled my eyes, showing Laura it was Damon calling.

She took the phone, "Hello Damon, what's up?"

Whatever his response was caused her to roll her eyes in annoyance. "She's asleep so I'll tell her you called."

She quickly hung up the phone, "I don't know how you tolerate that asshole!"

I giggled, "Now you know why I avoid him like the plague! You should have been there when he saw me with Zach!"

I proceed to tell her what transpired at the hotel.

Laura cackled loudly, clutching her stomach. "Zach should have beat his ass to a pulp!"

I love my sister to death but she is a vile creature! When our parents died, she became even more protective of me, especially since our Aunt Vanessa was not nice.

The first chance Laura got we left, cutting all ties to our family. All they did was take everything our parents owned and squandered the money.

She poured us some juice then we went to lounge on the sofa. "How's Alex doing now?"

Laura smiled sadly, "He's doing better, being brave as usual. His sperm donor still hasn't shown up but we'll be okay."

Coincidentally, Alex's FaceTime call came through to me. "Hey Bubba! I'm back!" I answered.

He giggled and smiled brightly despite laying in a hospital bed. "Awesome! How was the trip? Did anything cool happen? Meet anyone new?" He questioned rapidly.

Before I could reply, Laura took the phone and told him about Zach. Alex squealed happily because his only wish is for me to have a family of my own.

"Mom, please help Aunty Yana to find Zach!" He pleaded, especially since Laura had mixed feelings about Zach.

When it came to me dating, she was always hesitant because she hated to see me hurt and crying like a fool.

"Alex, I don't think I'll be of much help buddy." Laura sighed.

Alex huffed and began sulking. "That's the only thing I'm asking you for Mom..." He sighed loudly, "This could be Aunty Yana's true chance at happiness!"

I was shocked at his outburst, he is usually soft spoken. Laura clutched her chest instantly, "Calm down baby. I'll see what I can do okay."

Alex smiled instantly and that's when we realized he played her! He quickly bid us goodbye, stating that he was sleepy. Laura and I stared at each other in utter bewilderment.

“You better go get your nephew before I knock his ass out!” Laura rolled her eyes and hissed her teeth.

I simply typed a message to him: Thank you my baby boy! #Let’sFindZach. Love you, see you tomorrow bubba.
