Chapter 3

Emily was in her room, like a possessed person. She was barking and doing nothing. The incident she had just witnessed a few hours ago made her heart seem about to squeal, but she couldn't.

Imagine she was forced to watch two lovebirds who made love from beginning to end. It was a crazy thing that Emily had never imagined at all.

And the man who did it was the man who would soon be her husband. Her whole body was even still trembling at this moment.

She could have run away from the room, indeed. However, she didn't know why her legs were even more firmly stuck there and unable to move. However, she has closed her eyes, so she does not need to look directly.

Emily still heard the two lovebirds' sighs and groans, even though she had covered both ears.

Later, her body slumped to the floor because her legs could no longer stand upright and support her body weight to stay afloat.

Knock, knock, knock!

Emily almost jumped when she heard the knocking on the door; that could have been Jason. What else did the man come to see her for? Or could it possibly be her future mother-in-law, Emma McKennel?

Emily was eager to feel overwhelmed when she saw that the one standing before her was indeed Emma. She must have wanted to tell her about the fitting of the wedding dress. And Emily wasn't prepared for that.

Unfortunately, she will automatically turn into a weak girl every time she deals with a husband and wife who are worthy in her life.

"Emily, honey, are you ready? The fashion designers will be coming in ten minutes, dear. Get ready, okay?" said Emma, as she reviewed a warm smile at her future daughter-in-law.

Emily just nodded, then got up and headed for her dressing table to apply a little makeup and do her hair, which was starting to lengthen.

Her memory is still fixed, and it constantly plays those perverted scenes in her head cavity until she can't forget the disgusting incident she had just experienced and witnessed.

"Emily, you look pale. Are you sick?" asked Emma, as she stroked the head of the girl she had been studying for a long time and raised, now about to become her daughter-in-law.

"No, Mrs. McKennel. I'm fine." The girl then got up and faced her adoptive mother. "I'm ready to do it, Mrs. McKennel. I'm not going to let you guys down."

"Hey ... why do you still call me that? Just call Emma, or mom. Or whatever it takes, as long as you're happy. However, please, don't call me so formal, dear." Emma then stroked Emily's arm gently. "We'll wait for you in the family room, okay."

Emily was still stunned after Emma left her room.

She kept thinking about how to deal with the meeting with Jason after the events that had just happened. Can she be casual and not look at the man with a look of contempt?

Or ... can she live up to her role as the wife of Jason later? What if she doesn't? What if she couldn't fulfill Charles' wish to have a descendant for herself and Jason?

Even the mere thought of dealing with Jason made Emily's kneecap tremble.

"Oh, here comes the bride-to-be!" exclaimed another as Emily arrived at the room with a forced smile.

Everything seemed so happy. The excitement welcomed Emily's arrival and even more so when they saw the girl in a beautiful dress with a sprinkling of jeweled rocks that made the thing look luxurious and cling beautifully to Emily's gorgeous body.

"You're going to be the most beautiful bride, Emily ...." Emma stroked Emily's face in front of everyone and pecked her forehead.

Meanwhile, Emily's gaze was directed at Jason, sitting in the corner of the room and watching her with a look she couldn't define.

Is he fascinated?

Amazed?

Or ... hate the bumbling?

Emily still forced the corners of her lips to keep pulling and made a big smile as if she was happy about everything she was destined to do.

In fact, her heart rebelled with various presuppositions that tormented her mind even more.

Suppose the man was Jared ...

If only he and Jared had declared a relationship earlier...

If it were if it were ...

And the obvious things will never be possible. Because soon, in a matter of days, Emily will be the bride of Jason McKennel. And that she could never prevent.

"You're happy, aren't you?" a voice alleged; Emily knew who was there.

The girl turned around and found an athletic man with hazel's stunning eyeballs who always managed to make Emily unable to sleep well every night.

"Jared ... what did you say? You know that I—"

The man raised his hand in the air with the apparent intention that he didn't want Emily to say anything.

"You seem to be smiling from ear to ear, so I think you're indeed happy." The man snored. "So that's it? It doesn't matter if you don't get me because my brother will be more financially profitable. Is that so?"

Emily shook her head weakly. Not to show Jared that what he said was one hundred percent wrong, but because Emily could no longer explain anything to the man.

No matter what she said, she could never calm Jared's already hurting feelings.

"What can I do, Jared? Will you be able to give me a solution?" Emily finally defended herself.

"You can refuse!"

Jared still didn't want to know. He no longer wanted to hear what Emily had to say, regardless of whether it was true or false. For him, there would always be a choice if only Emily wanted to.

"Like what? What should my rejection of the person who has saved my life and given me another life that so many people like me crave, huh? Do I have a choice?"

Emily's chest felt tight, and she held back as much as possible as if she had not had enough of her problems; now, she had to face Jared, who insisted on his thoughts.

Jared snoozed again. Bitter, that's what he feels right now. When he hoped for Emily, the girl would belong to another man. And it was his brother.

"Me. Do you think I'm not an option? Is obeying father's words a better choice than choosing ME?"

Emily shook her head. She didn't know how to explain to Jared that she didn't want this all either.

She doesn't want to be Jason's wife!

"If you knew I wanted to run from all of this. However, I can't. There are a lot of things that get in my way whenever I intend to leave. I feel like a human being who doesn't know myself, doesn't know how to be grateful if I do that." Emily paused her sentence for a moment.

"It was your father and mother who gave me life, Jared. When everyone threw me away, I almost lost my life, and they raised me with the same affection they gave to you and Jason. Can I act so brazenly by going against their wishes and leaving?" Emily continued.

Jared was silent for a moment before answering every question implied in Emily's remarks.

"So, do you think you can't go because of that? Because you feel helpless? Well ... then all your debts to Dad, I will pay it. Marry me; we will go as far as possible and live happily together."
