055 Her Last Words

"So, why are we here?"

On the open bar on top of the hotel, Curtis stretched himself on a cane sofa.

"You resigned a decent pay job, so I'm here to inquire into that on behalf of the hotel." A man in black suit sat formally opposed to Curtis and replied with politeness.

"Ohh, really?" Curtis curved his lips into a sarcastic grin, "And why would your hotel care? I would think it to be a very attractive position?"

"Yes, of course. But an elite like yourself is what we would hope to keep with us." The man didn't flinch at Curtis's question.

"Well, because I'm a werewolf and I'm investigating into the crime that my mom didn't commit. You would think having a permanent job could be a bit inconvenient sometimes." Curtis said as he lit up a cigarette, "Won't you?"

The man looked a bit shocked, and then burst into laughter: "Very funny."

"I don't know who you are, but I'm pretty sure you are one of Erebus's boys, am I right?" Curtis waved his hand with the cigarette in between his fingers, "He didn't tell you who I am?"

The man grinned. It was Menoetius.

"Oh, he did. He told me you are the little wolf that used to follow our Lord around asking for hugs." Menoetius said with his huge grin on.

Curtis: "..."

"So, why did you resign then?" Menoetius had the superpower to keep his annoying grin on when people are obviously mad at him.

"So, you KNOW, you are talking to your prince right now?" Curtis said, stressing on the word "prince".

"I know the prince's well-being is definitely part of my responsibility, and we certainly would love to provide you a position here even if you don't work." Menoetius said with genuine in his eyes that just annoyed Curtis more, "I mean, not that you need it though."

"You got a text." Curtis said, hinting at the phone on the table.

"It's not as important as you." Menoetius looked down for a sec, but he didn't pick it up.

It was a text from Erebus.

Erebus seemed a bit shocked when he looked up from his phone and saw Kitty yelled and jumped at the three warriors as they were tearing the paper dolls.

She rushed into the circle as the dolls were teared up.

Nothing happened.

"What, what happened...?" Kitty asked.

"They blocked my spell." Winnie answered before Erebus could came up to Kitty.

"What?!" Kitty exclaimed, "What now then?"

"It has to be you." Winnie said.

"No." Erebus said coldly and came up before Kitty. "There is no way I'm let her in there."

"She is the only human here." Winnie explained.

And Kitty suddenly realized, that had been Winnie's plan all along. She KNEW, the spell would reject werewolves, and she KNEW, Kitty would have to go in there.

Yes, Winnie used Kitty, because that was her friend's daughter in there that needed help.

At least Winnie's intention was not hurting them.

But Erebus didn't know all these.

"What are you up to? Do you know what you are asking here?!" He was really mad this time, and while Winnie didn't seem to be scared of him, she was avoiding his eyes out of guilty.

She WAS trying to use Kitty.

"It's okay, I'll go." Kitty sighed and held out her hand for the paper doll that was held in Ares's hand.

"No." Erebus took Kitty by her wrist, "They are werewolves and witches! You won't survive if you go!"

"It's okay. I'll sneak in there, and get back as soon as I find Emma. I won't be fighting with anyone." Kitty comforted him.

"No way!" Erebus dragged by the wrist and she fell into his arm, "There's nothing worth risking your life for. I won't let it!"

"What...?" Kitty mumbled.

"You are under my protection now. I won't let it." Erebus suddenly realized what he just said, and he couldn't bring himself to make a move on her, not now. So he simply just concluded and turned away.

"But the spell was triggered already, they would be on alert right now." Winnie said.

"Which is more of a reason to not let her go. Are you trying to get her killed?!" Erebus growled.

"I won't be, I have this." Kitty took out the painting brush, "She gave it to me, and it will protect me for once. Right?"

Kitty turned to face Winnie, who lowered her eyes to avoid Kitty's sight.

Kitty turned to Erebus: "She IS my sister, blood or not. I HAVE to save her. If she was hurt, or died because I won't take a risk, I won't be able to forgive myself forever."

"..." This time, Erebus couldn't argue with her.

"Here." Pallas handed over his paper doll, facing Erebus's death stare, "It's the right thing to do, my Lord."

"We will head for the edge of the spell; we have a detailed map of it. Ran outwards as much as you can if you got in danger, we will be around." Erebus handed her an ear piece, "Talk to me when you can and keep me posted."

The plan was now for Kitty to only find out the correct location, and the werewolves waiting outside would go in and get Kitty and Emma out.

"I would have agreed to help." Kitty said to Winnie after she took the paper doll.

And at that sentence, Erebus turned to Winnie with shocking eyes. He Knew.

"Don't." Kitty simply just tugged on his sleeves, "She did give me protection. It's okay. Besides, you will be there too, right? I mean, Hephaistos and Dionysus, they are waiting right outside the spell. All they need is a location. It will be fine."

"Of course I will be there. Come back... Please." Erebus couldn't say the "to me" out loud. He wished he had.

"I will. I have something to tell you... after." Kitty hugged him and grinned, "So I kinda HAVE to come back."

"Kitty..." Erebus mumbled her name. Why did he have such a bad feeling? Everything was happening together, and he felt HIS city was getting out of his control. He didn't like that feeling.

But now that they have alerted the witch, he could risk them getting away either. Kitty had to go...

"Okay, see you on the other side." Kitty said as she teared off the paper doll.

Erebus took an ear piece for himself and started stripping. It would be much faster if he gets there in wolf form instead of the car.

"My Lord, it's day time." Metis reminded him.

"The car is too slow." Erebus said, and his shirt was already off.

"Uh oh..." Kitty's voice came through the ear piece.

"What? What's going on?!" Erebus put a finger on his ear piece as he basically shouted.

Who just said even just whisper would be fine?

"It's the abandoned building by the river-- Ahhh!!!" Kitty's voice was cut off after that.

"God damn it!" Erebus cursed, "Hephaistos! Dionysus!"

"We are on it!" Two voices came through.

Erebus didn't bother taking the rest of his cloth off. He just shifted right there and started running towards the rendezvous.

"Kitty? Kitty?!" Erebus growled into his ear piece.

No answer.

"We are here!" Two voices came in one after another. They were on the two sides of the area under the spell so there was a bit time difference.

"Talk to me." Erebus replied.

"No one was here." Dionysus's low, calm voice came through.

"They cannot be that fast. She had a protection spell with her!" Erebus shouted.

"No, my Lord. No one WAS here." Dionysus repeated, "There is no trace of any human here. No one, had been here for a very long time."

"What do you mean?!" Metis's worried voice came in.

Kitty was gone.
