060 The Power Of Thunder

Erebus laughed in silent as he watched Kitty yelled "what" and then covered her own mouth and then froze at what he just said.

"You... you..." Kitty blinked a few times, still adjusting.

"Yeah." Erebus chuckled, gazing at the little kitten panicking in the corner he created with his body.

"But you said..." Kitty started and then stopped again.

"Yes?" Erebus said, knowing what she wanted to say.

"You were hiding that fact on purpose, weren't you?" Kitty finally found her cool and started thinking again.

"You know, I find you extremely intelligent." Erebus said admiringly, "Even in extreme dangerous or bizarre situation, you manage to think, always."

"Umm, thanks?" Kitty rolled her eyes, "Don't think a compliment would distract me to another subject!"

"Haha, I was serious complimenting you!" Erebus burst into laughter, "If I wanted to hide it, I wouldn't have told you, silly."

"You didn't tell me at first," Kitty pouted, "I asked first!"

"Okay, okay. You won." Erebus chuckled, "I didn't mean to hide that from you actually, but sorry I didn't say anything either."

"Why didn't you?" Kitty asked with curiosity.

"Well, mostly because you have been upset about not being part of the supernatural world. I was looking into it, and I didn't want to say anything before I can confirm." Erebus said.

"Well..." Kitty lost in his clear blue eyes again.

He always does that! Always keeping a safe and polite distance, but every time Kitty forgets it, he would suddenly be caring, or, intimate even, and makes her heart speed up.

"You can ask me any question you might have about magic," Erebus added with a grin, "Although you need to find your own way if you want to exceed The Master."

"...Is she really that great a witch?" Kitty hesitated for a while and finally asked.

It had been a mess ever since she found out that the lovely mom in her memory could be a witch, and she now finally could catch a breath and ask about her, feeling like she got her mom back again.

"Yes." Erebus confirmed with a firm tone, "She was a legend back at her time, and she suddenly disappeared some years ago. Some presumed that she was dead, but now I see. She went in hiding with her best creation, you."

"But she never let me know any of this." Kitty said, confused.

"I'm sure she had her reasons." Erebus said with a soft voice, "but I'm sure she loved you."

"How do you know?" Kitty laughed. People always say this kind of "comforting kind words" with no reason whatsoever.

"Because this." Erebus pulled out a picture and handed it over to her.

It was the picture of Kitty and Lilith, in the Universal Studio with the King and the young Prince Charles.

"Oh my God! Where did you get this?!" Kitty exclaimed, "Wait..."

"It was easy to get after I confirmed that it existed." Erebus said, "What?"

"It was the picture mom had in her watch!" Kitty yelled as she looked up at Erebus, "You know, the cover of the pocket watch. In there it was only me and her! I've forgotten that I had this picture! I guess Curtis didn't lie..."

"What did he say?" Erebus asked.

"Well, basically, just that we have met before..." Kitty mumbled, "But how could he be sure it was me?"

"Basically?" Erebus caught her hesitation.

"Nothing..." Kitty's face flushed. She didn't know it would so embarrassing to admit someone else's feelings towards her.

Erebus watched her expression changing but he didn't push forward.

"But why don't I have magic?" Kitty realized the most troubling problem.

"We need to look into that." Erebus said, "But I'm guessing your mom never taught you anything on that either?"

"No, not really." Kitty shook her head.

"Well, there's a simple thing we could try." Erebus said, "Give me your hand."

Kitty held up her hand and pressed against Erebus's.

"Close your eyes." Erebus said. His soft voice was low and a bit rough, like an old record, pouring magical sound in its unique, charming way.

His hand was warm but hard, as if carvings on a piece of wood. There was no callus but somehow the grain showed the hard life the owner had lived.

And all of a sudden, Kitty felt a breeze brushing against the back of her hand; and then sunshine, warm, bright, gentle sunshine cast through that breeze; and then a smell, the smell of fresh cut meadow, the smell of life!

"W-what's that?" Kitty shut open her eyes and flinched, but Erebus pushed forward and didn't let her hand detached with his.

"It's okay. What you felt was my magic. The power of arbor." Erebus explained.

"That's a very gentle power." Kitty giggled.

"Naughty. Life can be fierce." Erebus put a hand on her head and covered her eyes, "Magic seeks for the similar and fights with the opposite. Let mine in, and see what would happen."

"Okay, okay." Kitty closed her eye again and said lazily, "I have to warn you, I cannot really use magic."

"That's okay, too." Erebus's voice was soft and low as usual, and hearing his voice calms her.

Kitty felt something flew inside her, as if a cool creek but with the touch of a warm, afternoon sunshine in the summer, with the smell of a meadow--

A strike of lightening broke out of nowhere and hit that creek!

The peaceful creek went sizzling and now sparking with electric bouncing around.

"Wow!" Erebus sighed with a pressed voice but he didn’t take away his hand.

"What happened?! Are you alright?" Kitty panted and pulled her hand away. She opened her eyes in panic, only to find his hand was healing from a burnt mark in the paw.

"It's okay, don't worry about it. It's just a small dose of your magic." Erebus gave her a calming smile, "Though I AM impressed, you are very powerful."

"What WAS that?!" Kitty was still in shock.

"That, my little kitten, is your power." Erebus grinned at her, "The power of thunder."
