Chapter 130 Change

When her gaze landed on that card, Jane’s shoulders shook uncontrollably… He had always known what she wanted to do!

The hair on Sean’s forehead was dripping wet, the droplets of water flowing down his locks. He lifted his foot and walked toward Jane.

She had nowhere to go. Jane instinctively gulped. Inside, she was insanely nervous.

“I’m sorry, Mr. Stewart! I apologize!” A barely discernible light flashed through her eyes. As she spoke, she bent her knees, about to prostrate herself toward the man approaching her.

A hand reached out diagonally toward her, getting a firm hold of her arm and propping her up. Jane raised her head and saw that face right next to hers, looking down on her with a half-smile. “Mr. Stewart… I… I apologize. I know I was wrong.”

“Oh? You do?” The man’s head lowered, and his lips curved as he asked her, “Do you know what you did wrong?”

What did he… Sean mean by that? Jane’s heart was suspended in her chest. “I shouldn’t have disobeyed your orders, Mr. Stewart…” As she said that, she never expected that he would catch every bit of the impatience and reluctance that flashed through her eyes.

Before she finished that thought, she was interrupted by a chuckle. All of a sudden, Jane felt her body lighten and she was lifted into the air. “Mr. Stewart!” The way she suddenly left the ground made her feel extremely insecure, so she paled instantly and cried out loud.

She did not even have the time to wonder what this man wanted to do to her. The next second, she was carried steadily to the bed and pressed onto the sheets, sitting upright. “Shh~” There was a shush above her head. As soon as she looked up, a dark shadow fell over her. He reached his hand toward her, and she thought she was in for another beating. “Don’t hit me!”

She did not even think about it. The moment she saw Sean stretching his hand toward her, she instinctively screamed and began shaking in fear…

The man standing by the bed narrowed his eyes imperceptibly. He looked at his hand and then at the woman who was so scared that she was holding her head in her hands… He had quickly realized that the woman’s reaction earlier was a hundred percent instinctive. She had instinctively jumped to protect herself.

The ice in his deep eyes grew colder… He had just suddenly reached to grab her. The most a normal person would do was dodge, yet something happened to make her habitually hug her head, pleading and screaming, “Don’t hit me”... The look in Sean’s eyes was vaguely murderous now.

Jane clenched her teeth and held her head in her hands. The way she curled up in self-defense looked even more professional than the pros. If she were to receive a grade for that, it would definitely be a full score.

Her head was buried into her chest, her eyes tightly shut and her lashes trembling. She waited for the pain to arrive like a death row convict waiting for the execution. All of a sudden, a palm fell on her head. Her eyelids shuddered, and she bit her lip painfully… Was it finally here?

Instead of receiving a punch, though, all she found was the sudden addition of a hairdryer’s whir in her ear.

After that… she blinked.

All of a sudden, she found the whole thing absurd.

Sean Stewart was helping her dry her hair?

What a joke!

She did not dare to believe it, so she secretly peeked behind her… The white bathrobe swayed before her eyes, and the sensation above her head was no lie. She was even sensitive enough to feel her hair twirling between his fingers.

Yet… how could this be?

“Don’t move.” His calm command sent Jane sitting up even straighter, too afraid to move even an inch.

The only sound in the bedroom was the whir of the hairdryer. There was nothing else.

“All done,” the man said.

Sean put the hairdryer back in place and turned around to see the woman on the bed looking at him warily, just like a quail. As she watched, Sean strode toward the door with his long and slender legs.

Jane’s eyes only widened further, not daring to look away from him for even a second… She thought he was only going to close the door, after which he would… he would… “Oh, right. Take off your clothes before you sleep. You know what’ll happen if you dirty my bed. I won’t be pleased.”

After that, he… left?

Thud.

There was the soft sound of the door closing. Only then could Jane be certain that she had not been mistaken— that man had left the room.

Before she could heave a sigh of relief, though, the door was pushed open again. In that instant, she grew more nervous than ever.

However, that man just took a blanket out of a nearby closet and left the room again without a single word.

Did that mean… he was not sleeping in the bedroom?

That night, Jane’s eyes stayed wide open until dawn, but she still could not figure out what that man wanted… Be it the way he dried her hair or took a blanket out to sleep, she could not figure out his intentions behind any of it.

There were many times when she wanted to open the door and check the living room. She wanted to know, would he really so kind as to let her sleep on the bed while he took the couch?

In the end, though, she just laughed to herself. Was she hoping he would turn over a new leaf? Not before pigs could fly.

She did not get a wink of sleep that entire night. When the sun came back up, she thought, she would go back to her boring but peaceful life.

What she did not know was that from the moment she opened that door, her life would never again go back to those boring yet peaceful days.

“Make yourself presentable.” He tossed her an outfit and then began straightening out the sleeves of his white shirt as well. “Come with me to work later.”

“Work… only starts at night, right?”

Suddenly!

He swept his gaze over her coolly. “Who ever told you I meant this place?”

His voice was mild and calm as he said evenly, “Get changed. There’s a meeting in the morning.”

Jane’s feet felt rooted to the ground.

“Why are you just standing there?” said the man.

Jane grew even more frustrated now. “Mr. Stewart, you’re the boss, but I signed up to work with East Emperor. I’m an employee at East Emperor, not your other companies.” The outfit he had given her felt especially irritating to her now. She did not know where she found the courage, but she let go and allowed the suit to ‘accidentally’ fall onto the floor.

Sean glanced at it and then looked up at her, half-raising his brow. “Pick it up.” His voice was calm but brooked no argument.

Jane stood frozen to the spot. She rubbed her hands behind her back but still refused to budge.

“Pick it up, Jane Dunn,” he repeated for a second time, his bottomless eyes challenging her boldly.

A sheen of sweat clearly beaded on her forehead. “I’m an employee at East Emperor, a member of the PR department here. I don’t work at Stewart Industries.” What she meant was that she was determined not to go with him to Stewart Industries.

Sean strode toward Jane, and she wanted to back away, but it felt as though her feet were chained to the ground. Sean stood in front of her and gave her a look. As she stared at him, he bent down and picked the outfit she had dropped onto the floor, holding it up in front of her again.

“Jane, I’ll help you retrieve everything you lost.” His eyes were fixed on the woman before him. “Now go get changed.”

Jane did not understand what he meant by that at the time, but someday in the future, she would finally get it— what Sean meant by those words he said today.
