"Your wedding won't go smoothly! I'll let you know Marcus only loves me, and you're just a loser!"
After Charlotte Bernard read this text, her face darkened.
Today was her wedding with Marcus Gallagher; and the text was from Marcus' childhood sweetheart, Lydia Wagner.
Charlotte took a deep breath before turning off her phone.
For this wedding, the Bernard family and the Gallagher family invited every influential figure in Aelmere. While Charlotte told herself that Marcus wouldn't do anything stupid on such an occasion, she still felt a bit worried.
Meantime, the host on the stage announced the entrance of the groom. "Next, please give your warmest welcome to our handsome groom, Mr. Marcus Gallagher!"
As the host's voice trailed off, the banquet hall broke out into a round of thunderous applause.
However, a few seconds had passed, and the groom, who should get on the stage, was still nowhere to be found.
Whispers circulated among the crowd. The host smiled calmly to make light of the "small accident," but half a minute later, he realized something was wrong and stopped talking. A silence fell upon the banquet hall.
Suddenly, a loud and crisp slap sounded from backstage. People who were sitting near the stage witnessed the groom being slapped by his mother, Marisa Gallagher.
Then, they saw Marcus yank off the flower pinned on his left chest and run toward the door.
Meanwhile, Charlotte's father, Greyson Bernard, was waiting to walk his baby girl down the aisle.
He patted Charlotte's arm gently and asked, "Lottie, are you nervous?"
Charlotte glanced at Greyson and forced a smile.
Just as she wanted to say something, she heard Marisa's voice from behind. "Marcus, come back!"
Charlotte clenched her fists. A feeling of unease washed over her.
The moment Charlotte looked back, Marcus brushed past her.
When Marcus saw Charlotte, his eyes flashed with guilt. "Lottie, I'm sorry. Something happened to Lydia. I gotta go check on her. Our wedding will have to wait."
While talking, Marcus didn't stop walking.
What he had said broke Charlotte's heart.
Meanwhile, Greyson's face instantly darkened. He didn't expect that Marcus would abandon Charlotte in front of all the friends and relatives.
Rooted to the spot, Charlotte watched Marcus running away, her mind blank.
Suddenly, a voice in her heart woke her up and told her that she had to stop him!
She then gathered her thoughts, lifted her dress, and chased Marcus.
Though running in high heels was killing Charlotte, she didn't stop. She gritted her teeth and tried her best to catch up with Marcus.
When she darted out of the hotel, Marcus already crossed the street.
Without second thoughts, she followed him.
Just as Marcus was about to get into the car, he heard a screech of the tires, followed by Marisa's scream. "Lottie!"
Charlotte, who donned a white dress, was hit by a black car. A sharp pain instantly spread across her legs.
Charlotte fell to the ground, blood seeping out and staining her white dress red. Her arms were covered with bruises and grazes, making her look like a miserable mess, but she didn't care.
She just propped against the ground and struggled to sit up. Then, she bit her lip, fixing her eyes on Marcus, who was standing next to a car.
Charlotte didn't utter a word, just looking at Marcus beseechingly as tears welled up in her eyes.
She was begging Marcus to stay with her eyes, hoping that he would choose her over Lydia for this once.
However, Marcus just cast a glance at her before hopping into the car.
In less than three seconds, the car was out of Charlotte's sight.
Sitting on the ground, Charlotte stared blankly at the passing cars. As the excruciating pain from her legs hit her, she finally burst into tears.
She couldn't help wondering in her heart, 'Why? Why did you just leave me like that? It's our wedding today! Have you ever loved me?'
Tears blurred Charlotte's vision. With a pathetic smile, she fell back to the ground.
Before she completely lost consciousness, she saw a man getting out of the black car that just hit her. In a tailored suit and expensive leather shoes, he sauntered toward her.
Greyson could trust an outsider like her to run the company, but her own father didn't even care about her well-being.Charlotte reached out and hugged her, "Liz, you're a mom now, you gotta be strong.""Uh-huh."Elizabeth wiped her eyes and smiled, "When are you and Leandro planning to have kids?"Charlotte blushed a bit when she mentioned it, "Maybe next year?"She wasn't sure, but she could tell that Marco really wanted to hold his grandson, while Leandro wasn't in a hurry at all.Next year, she will be twenty-eight, not that young anymore.Charlotte thought, "Yeah, I should really consider this issue.""Your career back home wasn't completely stable yet, so it's okay to be late."The two of them hadn't talked all night like this for a long time. In the end, Elizabeth didn't go back to her own room, she slept in Charlotte's bed together. The two of them seemed to have gone back to their teenage years, when Eliz
"I don't need to say those clichéd words. I only have one daughter, Lottie. This company, when I'm gone, will also be left to Lottie. You are her good friend, and happen to have such ability. Why should I cling to those outdated ideas and not let myself enjoy peace and happiness?"Greyson paused and said, "Besides, our family's company, the Bernard family, isn't a big company, just making some money."Elizabeth was caught off guard by the surprise, she didn't even know how to start: "Uncle, I, I—"Greyson raised his hand and said, "You don't have to rush to answer me. Frankie is still young. Stay a few more days this time, think carefully, and then give me an answer."Elizabeth sorted out her thoughts and was about to speak when she heard her daughter crying from upstairs.Greyson told her to go see her daughter first, "wait until she figures it out before talking about this."Frankie's crying got louder and louder, so Elizabeth
After weighing the pros and cons, Charlotte decided to go ahead with this collaboration. Her reputation is not as good in Aelburn as it is overseas, but this high-end luxury brand has always been well-known in the country. This collaboration for the wedding is more beneficial than harmful to her.Leandro respected her decision and, after learning her thoughts, he also arranged for people to rearrange all the previous preparations for the promotion, planning to make the wedding day the day that Mrs. Romero would be the center of attention. The wedding came faster than Charlotte expected, and Elizabeth has also recovered a lot recently. With Frankie, who is over eighty days old, they arrived on this side of Aelmere two days early.Frankie was still young, so Charlotte didn't feel comfortable having Elizabeth stay in a hotel. She just brought her back to the Bernard family.Greyson is turning sixty next year, and when he saw Frankie, he felt like he w
Charlotte tried to remember that marriage agreement, but couldn't recall it no matter how hard she thought.Leandro had already dried her hair for her, he turned off the hairdryer, saw her daydreaming, raised an eyebrow, leaned down and bit her lip, "What are you thinking?"Charlotte was stunned for a moment, then instinctively raised her hand to touch the bitten lip and said, "I don't remember seeing anything in the marriage agreement about you not being allowed to cheat.""It's not that I couldn't cheat."Leandro said, "He picked her up and put her on his lap."Through the thin clothing, Charlotte felt his advances and instinctively moved away a bit, "Leandro, it's late, you have an early meeting tomorrow..."He made a soft sound, his hand around her lower back moving down, stopping at her tailbone, and with a little force, he pressed Charlotte towards him, almost bumping into his chest, the sensation underneath her becoming more pronounced. She froze for a moment, and then Charlott
They got home around four o'clock. Joyce saw them come back and quickly asked if they wanted to have some afternoon tea.Charlotte shook her head and smiled, "No need to bother, Joyce. I'm not hungry.""I'll go prepare dinner then."She nodded and looked at Leandro beside her, "I'm going to practice the piano."He gave her a sly look and didn't stop her, "Go ahead."That night, Charlotte was getting ready to take a bath when she was suddenly picked up by Leandro, who had just come back from the study. She wrapped her arms around his neck, looking at him somewhat embarrassed, "I need to take a shower.""That works, along with Mrs. Romero."Charlotte heard what he said, and her face immediately turned red, but she didn't refuse either. The bathroom was filled with steam, but the fog-proof mirror was crystal clear.Charlotte didn't dare to look in the mirror at all, but Leandro just had to make her look."Lott
Charlotte's wedding dress took nearly half a year to make. Each tiny diamond on it was hand-set. Just this part alone took three and a half months to create with three workers. The wedding dress, which weighed over 30 pounds, needed several people just to put it on.Charlotte tried on the outfit for the first time, the vintage design was elegant and luxurious, even without styling, she still looked stunning. My armpits were a bit tight, needed some adjustments, but other than that, there wasn't much else to change.Although Leandro accompanied her to try on wedding dresses, Charlotte wanted him to see her in a wedding dress for the first time on their wedding day, so she only let him wait downstairs while she tried on dresses upstairs, without letting him see.Half an hour later, Charlotte changed back into her regular clothes and went downstairs to find Leandro.Someone was on the phone when they saw her coming down, raised their hand sligh
