Selene's POV

Sure enough, Matthew, lying back with Vera, their bodies entwined on our matrimonial bed.

The sight made my stomach churn with disgust, but also a strange clarity, if I had regarded him as a dog in heat before now he was so fucking shameless one

Caring less about what he was doing, I said, “We need to talk about the divorce.”

“Fuck! Selene…” he yelled in surprise, scrambling to cover up himself and Vera

  "Worthless whores," I sneered.

Vera's eyes met mine as though the word had somehow triggered her.

"Oh shut the fuck up bitch!" She snapped. "Don’t you know what basic courtesy is?"

  Her audacity struck me…

"I didn’t come here to argue with you" I screamed.

The veins in my neck nearly popped as my breathing was rapidly growing ragged.

  "Lower your voice," Vera whined.

“Mattew, give me what I want."

"You have nothing, Selene. I mean you don’t even have a place to stay"

I swallowed, in my fit of rage.

"You have no account of your own, no company or any sort of leverage against me."

  "Nothing," Vera chipped in.

I shot her a dirty look and she rolled her eyes at me.

"My suggestion is for you to remain calm and remember exactly which side of this situation you are currently on."

  My brows furrowed.

"I am going to get my company back after I divorce you," I promised him.

  He tilted his head.

"Wait, you are serious about divorcing me?"He laughed, "Common Selene, the board knows me."

He climbed out of the bed, tidying up himself.

"They have worked with me for the last four years while you remained here playing house like an obedient wife."

He took a step forward while I took a step back.

  I didn't say a word.

"If you walk in there after a divorce asking for your company back," he carried on, "they will look at you like a stranger."

He halted, quirking a brow at me.

"We could have an open marriage if that makes you feel any better," he began, "Think about it practically. You get to keep my name, live under my roof and the appearance of a well to do marri..."

My palm connected with his cheek before the sentence was fully out of his mouth.

"Bastard! And it doesn’t matter how long and hard, I’d have to fight… the end result will be me getting back my fathers company from you!" I yelled.

  I turned and walked out.

Vengeful anger bubbled in my chest which felt tight at the moment.

“SELENE, COME BACK HERE?!” I heard him thunder, thrashing the place as she looked for a shirt to wear.

It was almost hard to breathe.

"Oh Matthew, I’ll make you eat your fucking words," I whispered, still moving fast towards the front door.

I grabbed my car keys from the holder sitting there… I just had to pick it up from the mechanics and the bag I had packed up yesterday.

As soon as I stepped out, I saw a familiar car in the driveway.

“And whose car is that, you slut!” I heard Matthew yell from behind me, making me realise I didn’t see it alone.

The black Bentley Mulsanne was more expensive than all the cars Matthew had in the garage and that would explain his loss of composure.

“Oh my! Ms goody shoes had spent a few minutes cursing at me only for you to sell yourself…” his words trailed out as I entered the car.

It was either this or I walked fueling Mattews pride.

Just as I entered I could see him marching towards me and before he could reach me, a guard appeared out of nowhere, his hand clamping down on Matthew's wrist.

“I don't think you’d want to do this here sir!” the guard threatened.

“Who are these men you fucking slut…” he yelled instead, “We are not divorced… you can’t leave me… I own you… SELENE…”

He was still yelling profanities as the car zoomed away.

A smile filled my face as the driver made sure to bathe him with dust.

The youngest child who had been hysterical on the phone scrambled into my lap and as soon as I gave him the attention.

I finally asked, “Is the job offer still…?”

He didn’t answer directly, just instructed the driver to take us home.

  “But why?”

He didn’t hesitate to answer, “You should be asking what job I want you to do Selene? And not just assume I want to fuck you.”

A blush crept into my cheeks as I remembered our conversation earlier on.

He didn’t let me dwell on my embarrassment as he continued, “I haven’t been able to find anyone that calmed Lucas the way you did without even having to do too much… and the twins ate and asked for more….”

“Since the passing of their mother, they had started intentionally not eating to look the way she was due to chemo”

  Oh

“So I would help you get back everything you lost and in return you become my children’s cook for the period of the lawsuit.”

  Was that all?

It still didn’t answer my question… Why was he helping me?

“And… What about last night?” I found myself asking, my cheeks heating. “You… we…”

His eyes darkened, “Forget whatever you think had happened last night. I’m not interested in romance and moreover you are surely not my type.”

I bit my tongue, aware that his body the night before had said otherwise, but I nodded instead.

He leaned back, and I knew that nothing about this man was going to be simple.

“So what do you say Selene?”

Selene’s POV Last night was… My body felt like it had been run over by a truck, as every muscle was screaming in protest. The sun shouldn’t have been reflecting on my face like that because my curtains were always closed. My eyes fluttered open, and I winced at the brightness streaming through the floor-to-ceiling window. “What the hell?” I yawned, stretching, then hissed when a throbbing headache crashed over me like a tidal wave. The scent of lavender and cinnamon wrapped around me as I took in my surroundings. Then it hit me. We didn’t have floor-to-ceiling windows. I tried moving when I felt arms around me when memories from last night came rushing back in flashes. I winced, shutting eyes as a very vivid picture flashed in my head. The last thing I had remembered was his torso hovering over me, while he peppered kisses on my cheeks. What happened after that? I winced, clutching my head and I stressed trying to remember what had happened for that Jus

Aries’s POV I knew that scent anywhere. While heading towards my meeting with Matthew, she had brushed past me, heading upstairs, almost seemingly in a hurry, the whispers following suit. Selene Andrews. The last time I had seen her was at her fathers burial before I heard she had handed the company over to her husband. Staring at her hurrying figure, I found myself wondering why she had given all the Andrew’s name had stood for. Selene had always seemed passionate about the company when Mr. Andrew was alive. I could remember the way she used to walk through those halls with a smile on her face and that spark in her eyes wherever she discussed business. It was almost as though that version of herself had disappeared after marriage. A frown slowly formed on my face as the realization settled in. Matthew was her husband? The door to the elevator opened on Matthew's floor and at the same time, the door to Matthew’s office was slammed shut behind her. Matthew… t

Selene’s POV My eyes widened in shock, still unable to fully process what had just happened and his confession, when he shoved me out of the office and slammed the door shut behind me. What just happened here? The crowd we had somehow attracted slowly dispersed, whispering and it had taken me everything not to break down there. Holding tightly what was left of my pride, I walked to the elevator. As I entered my hands immediately gripped the railing for support, as I tried to steady my breathing. What have I done? Was this what they called a scam? Both had entered my life to ruin mine and who knew how much longer they would have kept up with this game of theirs. How? How had I been blind to everything? Vera had introduced Mattew as her step brother and although they were more touchy than every other sibling I have met, I never questioned it. I had no reason to because it was common sense that siblings don’t sleep with each other… I felt a tear slip out. For six

“Matthew is cheating on me!” I blurted out the second a groggy Vera had answered the phone. There was subtle ruffling at the other end before she finally said, “What are you talking about, Selene… it’s two in the morning.” “Exactly and I haven't seen Matt in a week,” I replied almost immediately, hoping she knew something that would help calm down my nerves. Or perhaps I was just tripping? “And you don’t know where he is?” She sighed, sounding more awake now. “Work…” I replied bitterly, “That’s all he had been telling me for the past couple days.” It was almost as though this invisible rift I had been sensing was slowly closing the gap, swallowing what little was left of our marriage. “I really can’t do this with you right now,” Vera interrupted my thoughts before adding, “I mean just listen to yourself. My brother is obsessed with you and everyone knows it… so what makes you think he’s cheating?” Before I could tell her about Matthew's lie, I could hear more shuff
