Chapter 5

ผู้เขียน: Pansy Wilde
By the time Kaden remembered that I was injured, I had already taken a cab to the hospital. The bruising on my ankle had faded quite a bit.

"I'm so sorry, wifey. I was in an online meeting and got held up for a bit," he explained.

Walking in with a mushroom soup takeout, he looked at my ankle with concern. "Is it any better?"

As he sat down beside me, I noticed a faint red mark on the collar of his shirt.

I couldn't help but wonder if Kaden perhaps had a split personality disorder. How could he go from a tender moment with his lover to coming here and playing the doting husband with me?

So, I brought up Gwendolyn. "Are you very close with her?"

Kaden chuckled. "Are you jealous, my dear? Don't worry. She's just a new employee. Don't you know what kind of person I am? I only scolded you earlier because I was afraid she might accuse you of something. Don't overthink it."

He casually rolled up my pant leg and applied medication to my ankle. After that, he blew on it gently.

This reminded me of when we first got together.

I could still remember the time when he had a huge row with his parents. He ended up living in a cramped and tiny rented apartment with me.

One Christmas, I was dismissed from my job. To cheer me up, he dressed as Santa Claus and dragged me out to hand out candy on the street.

Even his childhood friend had remarked in amazement, "I've never seen Kaden care about someone this much."

Over the past ten years, Kaden had given me everything I could have asked for—everything except marriage.

So, it was hard for me to believe that the man who professed to love me deeply was the very same man who slept with another woman behind my back.

I had never told Kaden about my family or background. He assumed that I was like Cinderella, who yearned to find her prince. However, the prince's true match would always be a princess.

I sat and watched him quietly, but my hand trembled uncontrollably under the blanket.

"You know, I think I've seen Ms. Crawford somewhere before. I think her name came up in the news," I remarked offhandedly.

Kaden stared straight at me and replied, "That's impossible. She's just a junior employee. You must have mistaken her for someone else."

The silence between us grew heavier until I suddenly laughed and said in a lighthearted tone, "You're probably right. I must have been mistaken."

Kaden let out a subtle sigh of relief, but his phone began to light up repeatedly with notifications of incoming messages.

This time, I didn't delay or hold him off from leaving. "Is something going on at the office? Go take care of it. I'll be fine here. So, don't worry about me."

The excuse he had prepared seemed to be caught in his throat. He looked at my curled-up form under the blanket and suddenly hesitated to leave.

Nevertheless, the steady stream of messages on his phone pushed him to make a choice.

He gave me a guilty glance and said, "Once things settle down, we'll go on a vacation to relax."

Kaden left me once again.

Soon, Gwendolyn's social media was updated. She posted a picture of herself lying on the hood of a sports car with a triumphant and smug expression.

"I can make all the tables turn. Why settle for an unremarkable housewife at home when you can have me instead?"

From that day on, Kaden didn't come back. I witnessed all his creative excuses and knew Gwendolyn was desperate to keep him with her.

Time flew by quickly. It was the day before Kaden and Gwendolyn would get married.

I packed up all my belongings and threw away anything in the villa that had any connection to me. The villa I had lived in for ten years suddenly felt like a stranger's home.

Kaden called me, saying, "Hey, wifey. I've booked tickets for the day after tomorrow. Let's meet at the airport, okay?"

It was almost impressive that he still remembered his promise to me, given how he and Gwendolyn were probably having the time of their lives these past few days.

Before I could respond, he hung up.

Early the next morning, the private investigator sent me one last message. He wrote, "The targets have obtained their marriage certificates."

The photo showed Kaden and Gwendolyn holding their marriage certificates, smiling contentedly at the camera.

At the same time, I boarded a plane that would take me far across the ocean.

Kaden sobbed pathetically, with his tears and snot running all over his face. One by one, I pried his fingers off me."Kaden, I am now the happiest bride in the world. I'm already married. To me, you are nothing but a worthless ex-boyfriend."Still, he refused to let go.Kaden begged, "Come with me now. The plane is about to take off. If we go back together now, there's still time to fix everything."I flung his hand away, letting out a cold laugh. "Go back? For what? Wasn't it you who said that you were with me just for fun, and you'd never actually marry me? Wasn't it you who said I wasn't even worthy of being with someone like you? Don't tell me you've forgotten your own words."My mocking smile stung him deeply, and his expression twisted in shock and disbelief. He muttered brokenly, "No… How could you know?"Then, he tried to explain himself, saying, "That's not what I meant. I only said that because Gwendolyn was there. I never meant it. The one I always wanted to marry w

Kaden held a bouquet of white roses in his arms. He was dressed in a formal suit, as if he were attending an important occasion. From a distance, he stared at me in shock. "Ella, how could you agree to marry someone else?"The Mobrey family's security was about to remove him, but Channing motioned for them to wait, clearly curious about my response.Kaden looked like he was the pitiful victim who had been betrayed by his lover mercilessly. "We were together for ten whole years! How long have you known this man? How could you let go of our relationship so easily? Do you have any idea what I went through? I severed ties with my family for you! How can you marry someone else?"His outrageous reasoning made me laugh bitterly in response.I looked at Kaden with a detached smile. "Mr. Zacarias, do you have no shame? Thank you for bringing up the fact that we'd been together for ten years. Let me ask you, Why weren't we married when we've been together that long?"I smiled coldly, my

Kaden clutched the photo tightly in his hand. Then, he broke down and sobbed uncontrollably. His father and mother—Boris Zacarias and Penny Fisher—stormed into the villa with Gwendolyn trailing behind them.Without a word, Boris slapped Kaden hard across the face. "You fool! Have you lost your mind? How can you leave the company to run on its own while you sit here and wallow in misery? Gwendolyn is your wife now. Ella has left, so you'd better snap out of it!"Penny chimed in angrily, "Can you please stop making us worry for you? We told you long ago that Ella isn't the one for you, but you wouldn't listen. Despite being with you for ten years, she's gone now, isn't she?"Kaden glared at them with fury. "If it weren't for you forcing me into this marriage alliance with the Crawfords, Ella and I would have been married long ago!"This earned him a slap from Penny. She howled, "You ungrateful brat! We did it for your own good! It's for the company's sake as well!"Kaden grabbed th

A deep sense of fear rose in Kaden's heart. For the first time, he felt as though he was truly going to lose me.Gwendolyn barged into his office. "Kaden, what exactly have you been busy with? It's been half a month since we got married, and you haven't come home once! Do you know what people are saying about me? I'm your wife, but everyone is calling me the mistress!"Ever since Gwendolyn learned that I'd left, she'd been desperate to take my place. But Kaden had changed. No matter how she tried to seduce him, he wouldn't touch her anymore. He didn't even return to the Zacarias residence. Now, he merely flashed her a cold glance and remarked harshly, "Are they not telling the truth? You're nothing but a complete disgrace."If it hadn't been for Gwendolyn drugging him, he wouldn't have cheated in the first place."I'm warning you. If you dare to covet something that doesn't belong to you again, I'll divorce you immediately."Gwendolyn's eyes widened in shock. "What did you say?

Even my favorite floor lamp lay miserably on the ground, shattered into pieces.Everything felt foreign to Kaden. It was as if the color I had infused into the house had been stripped away entirely. It didn't even feel like home to him anymore."What's going on? Where is Ella? Where did she go?"In the villa, all Kaden found was my abandoned suitcase. He opened it eagerly, and a few boxes slipped through the opening and tumbled to the floor. When they hit the ground, several pieces of jewelry spilled out.Kaden froze for a moment. These were all the gifts he had given me over the past ten years.A large envelope inside the suitcase caught his attention. As he slowly pulled out the contents, his face grew increasingly pale. His hands trembled uncontrollably as he held the documents. They were evidence of his infidelity. The disgusting, incriminating photos were laid bare before him in perfect clarity. Photos of him and Gwendolyn holding hands, kissing, and even lying in bed togeth

Outside the car window, a plane flew through the clouds.Kaden looked at the marriage certificate in his hands. For some inexplicable reason, he felt a sudden wave of panic.A few friends gathered around to congratulate him. He instinctively instructed them, "This must be kept a secret. Ella can never find out."Someone asked him, "But you can't hide it forever. What will you do if Ms. Selkirk finds out?"Kaden's expression darkened immediately. "Stop talking nonsense! Ella would never leave me. I'm sure she'll forgive me once I coax her and make it up to her."The others exchanged uncertain glances but dared not argue with him.Kaden had the impression that I could never stay mad at him. He believed I would understand and let him off the hook once he bought me some gifts and explained that his family pressured him into an alliance via marriage with the Crawfords.Gwendolyn linked her arm with his. "Let's go. Our families are waiting for us."It began to rain heavily outside.
