Two Hundred and seventy three

CHAPTER 273

Glen looked up, he hadn't finished his fries yet. "Are you leaving now, Uncle? Are you going to see my mom?"

Nicholas mumbled for a while, before finally nodding his head. "I'm going to take care of some work and meet with your mother. Is there anything you want to say to her?"

Glen's face grew more enthusiastic as he finished the fries in his mouth and looked thoughtful. He looked around before finally seeing Nicholas again. Raising his index finger in the air, Glen said, "I want you to tell my mom that I miss her a lot. I want some chocolate candy from Uncle Chuck's shop! They have the best chocolate in town and I want to try it."

Now, it was Nicholas' turn to raise his eyebrows enthusiastically. "Do you know Uncle Chuck's?"

"My friends in class talk about it, but I don't know. I just heard about it and wanted to try the chocolate candies they have."

Nicholas nodded his head. He smiled widely and rubbed the top of Glen's head in relief. At least, the boy still had some enthusiasm in him. "I'll tell that to your mother."

"Thank you, Uncle Detective."

"You're welcome, Glen."

After ending the conversation with Glen, Nicholas said goodbye to Lim Sara and left Glen with her as long as Selena had not left the police station. Nicholas went straight to his car to head to the police station. His curiosity about Ace had peaked, and he had to succeed in getting information about Ace's whereabouts from Selena today.

After arriving at the police station, Noel immediately greeted Nicholas. Noel walked into Nicholas' room and sat down opposite him casually.

"Has Selena had breakfast yet?"

"Of course. The duty officer treated her well," Noel said. Noel then lifted his chin while turning his chair, he pointed at Hendrick who seemed to be busy with the computer in front of him. "Hendrick also did nothing but sit at the desk and stare at his computer screen."

Nicholas also looked in the direction Noel was pointing. He furrowed his brow. "He's probably confused because he couldn't participate in interrogating Selena, so he can't get any information to give to his boss."

Noel swiveled his chair again, he rubbed his palms in front of Nicholas before pointing at the man and saying, "Or... Hendrick already knows that he's under suspicion from you? You're very conspicuous, he must have noticed your change in attitude."

Nicholas chuckled. "Is it my fault now?"

A low chuckle sounded from Noel. He crossed his arms over his chest, then shrugged. "I don't know how long you'll keep Hendrick. We already have two very important pieces of evidence. We even caught Hendrick meeting with someone to leak the information we have. But you should look at yourself, you keep him on the team. What is your goal, Nicholas?"

"The person we saw in the warehouse must have been a hired gun. That's not the real boss."

"Where do you know that? Stop assuming if you don't know anything, Nick."

Nicholas pointed at Noel, then flicked a finger at him. "Hey, hey, I'm the leader now. Watch your language!"

Instead of being scared, Noel laughed after hearing Nicholas' words. Noel moved his face forward and raised both eyebrows in front of Nicholas. "You were able to become the leader because you solved many cases with me. You don't intend to forget my merits, do you?"

Nicholas adjusted his sitting position. "By the way, have you prepared any questions for Selena? We have to get information about Ace today, we can't keep Selena any longer, unless she's involved in the murder. Whereas from all Selena's stories, she only saw the incident without doing anything."

Noel didn't answer right away. There was a pause there. For a few moments, Noel used that time to think. She then said, "But on second thought, didn't Selena take Amanda's things? She stole, robbed, took someone else's property. Selena could be charged for that and she should be punished."

"Ah, forget about stealing. We need to know what Ace's motive was for committing that crime against Amanda, and whether Selena knew Ace's future plans. We're running out of time and we need to catch Ace soon."

"Alright, alright. I'll do as you say."

Nicholas got up from his desk. He picked up a folder. The written report that Peter had made yesterday. Nicholas then gave the report to Noel while throwing it on the table. "You have to check that report. Find as many holes as you can. We need to know what Ace is up to and where he's taking all these crimes."

Noel accepted the folder and stood up from the chair. He took out a few sheets of paper stored inside, then said, "These are very long notes."

Nicholas and Noel headed to the interrogation room, while Selena was brought into the room by the duty police. Selena was again seated in the witness chair, while Nicholas was in another room. It was Noel who now sat opposite Selena. They would be cross-examined to check if Selena gave different testimonies to different people. And whether Selena's words would be volatile if Noel was interrogating her.

Noel smiled, she pretended to be friendly. Just like what she did to other prisoners and witnesses, "Hi, Selena. Did you sleep well last night?"

But Selena changed the subject. She looked up, then replied to Noel desperately. "Can I see Glen today? I have to pick him up. I never leave him overnight at daycare, Glen must be worried."

"You don't have to worry. Nick has taken care of him, he'll be fine."

Selena was silent for a while, she seemed to have lost the idea of escaping from her current position.

"Can we start the interrogation today?"

"You're going to interrogate me again?" Selena clutched her chest. "I already answered all the questions yesterday. Why are you making me like this?!"
