"Bri? It's Ethan. He's cheated again." Her friend's voice came through.

This wasn't the first time it was happening.

Brielle sat still on the couch, surrounded by silence and loneliness, and her only source of light was the candles on the table.

"It's all over the news this time around, Bri. Are you sure you still want to be with him? With a man that humiliates and disrespects you every damn time?" The frustration in her friend's voice was evident.

With trembling hands, Brielle took her phone away from her ear to stare at the breaking news, and just as Luna had mentioned, the headlines were all about her husband.

"BILLIONAIRE CEO KISSES YOUNG MODEL ON BROOKLYN STREET- LOVE IS IN THE AIR BETWEEN ETHAN RAYNE AND REINA FALLON."

The picture was vivid..too vivid. Her husband, whom she had been married to for two years, was locked in a heated kiss with a younger woman whom she had never seen before, at least not before now.

Their pictures were on every page, and they were even named the couple of the year.

Ethan's smile was bright and mischievous. His six foot two self was dressed in a designer tuxedo as if he had just stepped out of a fashion magazine. Ethan was the kind of man whose presence could silence a room, and it didn't help that he had the looks of a Greek God mixed with a model.

With his tousled hair and sharp jawline that made women adore him and beg for his attention. He had a reputation for parading different women, as none of them ever lasted by his side for a week.

If only they knew he had a wife…

Brielle ended the call and stared at the pictures one more time before releasing a long sigh.

She didn't cry.

She only turned to the elegant table she had spent all day setting and stared in silence- the burning candles, the food untouched, the bouquet of roses she had carefully arranged.

All for their wedding anniversary.

She wondered how her marriage had gotten here. Sure, he didn't love her as much as she loved him. The least she expected him to do was show no disrespect while they were still married.

She had spent the entire two years of her marriage being woken up to news like this about her husband, and over time, she had grown a thick skin.

But, for how long was she going to remain like this?

For how long was she going to sit and wait while he slept with every woman he found out there?

A sudden knock cut through the silence, bringing her back from her daze.

Brielle rose and walked carefully to the door. She opened it and was immediately met by the pungent stench of perfume and alcohol.

The woman from the photo, Reina Fallon, stood before her, her hair disheveled, her lipstick smeared, and her cheeks reddened. Her dress was a little too tight for Brielle, but she shut her mouth.

Behind her was her husband, Ethan, who could barely stand straight. His hair was just as disheveled as the woman's, and his shirt was missing some buttons.

"You must be the wife," Reina said smugly, mockery evident.

"Sorry to bother you this late." She said with an exaggerated sweetness. "Ethan drank too much at my house, so I figured I should bring him home…to his wife." She said the last three words with a smirk dancing on her lips.

"I couldn't just leave him at my place even though I know it would be what he wants. I just felt it would be best for him to spend the night with his wife." She said, widening her smile at Brielle and feigning innocence.

Brielle didn't flick at her words. This wasn't the first time she had witnessed such a scene. The only thing that was new this time around was the woman.

If only she knew that she was just one of Ethan's playthings.

Brielle felt bad for her- she really did. She was bragging shamelessly about a man who wasn't hers and would leave her the second he found someone more interesting.

But Brielle was in no place to judge. Not when she was the biggest fool for waiting every single time.

Now, she wasn't shaken by his affairs, just disappointed.

"You must be tired," Brielle said a little too calmly for the woman. "Thank you for bringing my husband back home. I'll have a driver leave with you to make up for the stress." She added and turned to her husband, her face void of any expression.

As soon as they were about to step in, Ethan staggered forward and collapsed into Brielle's arm, almost knocking her off her feet with his body weight.

His breath reeked of whisky; it made her gag.

"Sorry, darling. I just cheated on you again," he mumbled into her neck with a charming smile that women would kill for.

"It's alright, Ethan. I don't mind." Brielle answered in a calm voice.

"I know you are the best." Ethan nuzzled her neck, and Reina's eyes widened.

Reina blinked, clearly caught off guard by her reaction. That wasn't the normal reaction women gave when they found their husbands with another woman.

She was expecting some tears, maybe yelling, screaming, or even a fight, but…this was definitely not what she expected.

"Thank you once again. I'll take it from here." Brielle finished and threw the woman one final look.

The moment the doors closed, Ethan didn't look drunk at all. He stood up straight, his eyes scanning the dining table. "What is all this for?" He asked in a scoff.

Brielle took a deep breath, finally meeting his gaze with determination.

"I want a divorce."

Brielle shut the door to her apartment and leaned against it, her suitcase long forgotten at the door. The silence in her home was calming, a sharp contrast to the chaos she had just left behind. All the emotions she’d kept bottled up poured out of her anger, disappointment, heartbreak, and above all, shame.Shame that she had let the situation with Ethan drag on for so long. Shame that she had ignored the warnings and continuously lied to herself…convinced herself that things would change and that maybe he would become the man she wanted. But, she was only fooling herself. She was a coward who blamed her inability to walk away from toxicity on her love for Vivian.Brielle bawled her eyes out that night until sleep finally took her.*****

Ethan runs a hand through his hair in frustration. Just when things were getting slightly better between him and Brielle, they come here and do this! With blazing eyes, Ethan turns to his sister and Jessica who was stationed beside her, holding her arm like her life depended on it. “Make sure you are both gone by the time I return.” He pointed at them, eying his sister with both disappointment and rage.“I thought you were on my side, Anita. I trusted you.” His voice was laced with hurt that was deeply rooted.Anita opened her mouth to speak but no words came out. She knew she was wrong and had crossed the line but she was too strong-headed to admit that.“Don’t come to the house anymore, Anita. I’m not playing this time. You know how I feel about backstabbers.” He warned in a stern voice that sent shivers up Anita’s skin. For the first time in her life, she saw him as a man. Not the little boy she always scolded. And that was when she realized that the relationship she once had with

Jessica sat comfortably on Brielle’s bed like she owned it, her suitcase placed boldly beside the dresser. Anita settled beside her, one leg crossed over the other, staring at them without a care in the world.“What the hell is going on here?” Ethan’s voice thundered through the room.Neither Jessica nor Anita flinched.Jessica lowered her eyes like a cornered deer, pressing her hand to her stomach as though protecting the child within her.A move meant to make Ethan believe her claims.Anita, however, rolled her eyes lazily and met Ethan’s glare without fear. “Why are you shouting? We’re not intruders. We let ourselves in.”“In my house?” Ethan growled. “And in my wife’s room? Have you both gone mad?” He pointed toward Brielle, whose shock was evident on her face. However, she remained silent.Jessica sniffled softly. “I…I told her this wasn’t a good idea, Ethan,” she murmured, “but she insisted—she said it’s your child and I needed to feel safe, and…”“Oh shut up!” Ethan snapped, cu

Ethan sat in the sleek luxury desk at his office, eyes skimming the contract on the table while his business partner went on about a new expansion plan. He tapped a pen lightly against the folder, paying rapt attention to what he was saying and trying to go through the document at the same time. Just as the man across from him leaned forward to discuss revenue projections, Ethan’s phone buzzed beside him.He glanced down and saw the name: Brielle. His heart skipped in a good way.“Excuse me,” Ethan said, raising a hand. “Give me a minute. I need to take this.”The business partner nodded immediately. Seeing the bright look on Ethan’s face, he thought that it might be his wife.Ethan stood and walked toward the glass wall at the edge of the room, answering the call.“Brielle?”“I’m sorry to interrupt,” she said quickly. “I know you’re probably busy.”“It’s fine,” Ethan said, already softening. As a matter of fact, he was glad she called. It was something she rarely did these days. “The

“W-what?” Brielle blinked, catching her breath. “She was just brought in. Dr Graham has gone to take a look but it isn’t looking good for her. I just wanted to let you know. I have to leave now.” Dr Lorey said hurriedly and the line clicked, leaving Brielle with so many unanswered questions. “Oh dear God.” She panicked as she hurried out of bed and into the bathroom. Brielle splashed cold water on her face, gripping the edges of the bathroom sink as she stared at her reflection. Her eyes were tired, filled with worry, and heavy from the little sleep she had managed to get. The news about Nurse Joy had shaken her to her core, and every bone in her body felt restless. She couldn’t sit still, not when someone she had just spoken with the previous day was fighting for her life. She changed into a pair of brown trousers and a black blouse, tying her hair up into a loose bun before grabbing her coat. She skipped breakfast entirely and rushed out of the house, not bothering to even check

Brielle stared at him with hooded eyes. Of all the times he could have overheard their conversations it had to be now.Vivian clapped happily and grabbed her handbag. “Alright then! My work here is done!” She turned to Ms Gwen and stood.“We shall be on our way now! See you soon, my loves!” She cheered happily and waltzed out of the house, leaving a furious Brielle with Ethan. As soon as Vivian left the house, Brielle turned to Ethan. Her jaw tightened and her eyes narrowed as she stared at Ethan, arms crossed tightly over her chest. “You really agreed to that?” she asked, her voice calm but laced with irritation.Ethan sat down on the sofa, watching her with that annoyingly cool expression he always wore when he knew she was upset. “It wasn’t a big deal, Brielle,” he said, shrugging like he hadn’t just agreed to let his mother hire a sex therapist to meddle in their already ended marriage.“Not a big deal?” Brielle echoed, eyebrows arching sharply. “You sat there, smirking like an id
