Liam sat up straight, his face flushed as James's question caught him off guard. “Eyes on the road, James,” he scolded, his tone a little sharper than he intended.

“Yes, sir,” James replied, suppressing a chuckle as he focused back on the highway. His grin, however, refused to fade. Deep down, he stood by what his heart told him. Ava and Liam. The kindest woman on earth paired with the grouchiest man he knew. It was a perfect match.

Liam looked away, his gaze drifting to the world beyond the window. James's question shouldn't have gotten under his skin but it did.

He pondered deeply. Were they dating now? They never made anything official, but they liked each other, so they had to be dating. She wouldn't have hugged him otherwise would she?

He let out a sigh. Who was he kidding? He needed to ask her out. But what if she declines?

“Wow,” Ava breathed, taking in the sight around her as she and Liam were led to their table. “This place is actually… beautiful.”The restaurant looked like something out of those fancy commercials. Soft amber light spilled from wall sconces, angled upward to cast gentle shadows across the walls. The ceiling was arched elegantly, with delicate chandeliers, their glow dulled to create a warm, intimate atmosphere. The most surprising thing, though, was the silence. Rows of tables arranged across the space, each set with white linen and glimmering silverware, yet they were all….empty. The only sounds were the faint hum of music from hidden speakers. Liam sat comfortably opposite her at the round table, a content smile playing on his lips. He nodded at her statement, explaining “Booked it specially for us” The sound of that was sweet to her ears. But, her mind slowly wandered, her eyes drifting across the empty space. “But, why is it so empty?” When Liam told her where they were going,

Ava’s steps slowed as she reached the living room entrance, her racing heart finally beginning to settle. Her brows furrowed into confused lines, her forehead puckering. Liam and Albert were seated comfortably on the sofa, while Rose sat opposite them, legs crossed while calmly sipping tea.No sign of danger or any trouble. The three of them turned toward her at once.“Oh! Ava, you’re back!” Rose nearly choked on her tea before quickly setting the cup on the center table. “You came faster than I expected. Come in.” she urged her. Her mother's tone was calm. Too calm, it was unnerving. Ava’s lips twitched as she shut the door, her gaze shifting from Albert and Liam’s welcoming smiles to Rose’s mischievous grin.“Ma? Where’s the ‘trouble’ you were talking about?” she asked through clenched teeth.Liam rose to speak. Dressed casually in a shirt and trousers, his hair brushed neatly to the side, he opened his mouth, but Ava held up a hand to silence him.He paused, blinking. He was tak

It felt slightly odd seeing Glenn again after many years. The suddenness took Ava back to old memories she thought she had long forgotten, swept away by the years past. Ava Patel and Glenn Harvey went from friends to lovers back when they were in college. While she did a major in a professional medical course, he did business and real estate. They were seen as the perfect couple because they were always seen together. Sadly, after Glenn lost his father in a fatal car accident, he began to grow distant. He became so obsessed with finding his father's murderer, refusing to believe it was ‘just’ an accident, that it was orchestrated by someone. He even dropped out of college so he could fully focus on his investigation and getting justice for his poor father. Despite the police warning him to stop and grieve ‘normally,’ he continued. Ava never formally broke up with Glenn, they just stopped seeing each other, texting, and calling. In no time, Ava got tired of trying to reach out to h

“That man just now….what was he doing here?” Ava asked. She had been in the neighborhood quite a while and had only interacted with Joe on ‘special occasions.’ She always thought he was a bit strange. “Oh, that man? He said his name was Joe,” said Rose with an innocent smile. She explained, “It's a misunderstanding, actually. He thought I was a new neighbor moving in, and brought a pie to welcome me.” She lifted the pastry box to Ava's view. Ava raised a brow “And?” “Of course, I told him I was family and will be staying for a while.” She hesitated a bit before adding in a soft voice “Then he asked if we both could join him for dinner sometime. He had a weird smile” “Something wrong?” Albert got out of the car. “Oh nothing,” the two of them chorused with a smile. Rose stepped forward “Thank you, Mr. Albert Blackwood, for seeing my daughter back” He mirrored her smile “No problem.” “Join us for some morning tea?” She suggested. It was still quite early. He politely declined, “I

“What is it?” Ava asked, her tone heavy with unease. Liam drew in a deep breath, as if preparing himself to make an unlikely disclosure. He began “It's about the woman who was allegedly killed in this house.” Ava blinked, her voice shrinking to a whisper “Derah Paige?” She immediately remembered Amelia and the reason she snuck into Evie's room that day. She never expected to find Liam's results instead. But why was he suddenly bringing up her case? Did he find out who actually killed her? “That's right. Derah Paige” Liam answered with a nod. “The night before she died, the night you fell ill, she was in your room” Her eyes flew wide “My room? How do you—”“I could see, remember?” he clarified with an edge in his tone. Steadying his voice, he said “She came with the motive….of killing you, but she got frightened away when she saw me” “What?!” Ava's eyes dilated in horror, shock written all over her face. A sudden chill washed over her, her voice hoarse “She…she came to kill me?”
