JACKSON’S POV

The rest of the day slipped by rather slowly—like sunlight filtering through an autumn sky. Karen stayed by my side, her fingers occasionally brushing against mine, as if she needed the constant reassurance that this moment between us was real and not some dream she might be forced to wake up from.

Every time someone called her sister or daughter, her eyes flickered with something fragile—wonder, disbelief, a quiet ache for all the years she’d been denied this. It made my chest tighten.

Dinner was the usual chaos—plates clattering, voices overlapping, laughter ringing off the walls. Laila had returned from training without Sarah. I’m guessing she went home. Whatever happened earlier with her was still a mystery to me, but I sure as hell had every intention of finding out what went down with Laila. Much later, though. For the moment, I had to focus on dinner.

Laila, ever the mischievous one, kept sneaking pieces of steak from Liam’s plate, her smirk sharp as a blade. He p

LAILA’S POVThe memory of Liam and Sarah’s flushed faces, their fingers brushing together like they were afraid to fully touch—yet unable to pull away—sent a slow, knowing smirk curling across my lips as I turned away. Honestly, those two were adorable—and way too easy to tease. But I was glad to see them like that again. With everything going on lately, it felt like none of us had time to just be… normal teenagers.Still, I wasn’t about to give them too much of a hard time. I knew what it felt like to want someone so badly and still have to pretend like everything was fine.As soon as I shut my bedroom door behind me, I let out a long breath and leaned against it.Safe. Alone. Finally.I kicked off my shoes, tugged my hair free from its braid, and padded barefoot across the room. The sunset was bleeding into the horizon through my window, washing the sky in warm shades of gold and crimson. For a second, I stood there and just stared. The house was full again. Karen was back. Jackson

LIAM’S POVThe moment Jackson and Karen stepped out the door, I exhaled—long and slow—as if my lungs had been starved of air for hours. The house had been alive with noise, the walls vibrating with laughter, the clatter of dishes, the relentless hum of conversation.I loved my family, loved the way they filled every corner of this place with warmth—but I’d been dying to have a quiet moment with Sarah for what felt like forever. Between rogue attacks, training, and Karen’s recent rescue, we barely got to be around each other without bickering over something stupid. Not exactly the love story I envisioned. So, when she walked by me, humming softly as she brushed past the couch, I didn’t hesitate. I grabbed her waist and pulled her straight onto my lap.“Liam!” she squealed, squirming as her hands braced against my chest.“Shh…” I grinned, already tilting my head up, angling for a kiss. “Hold still. I’m trying to steal something.”Her eyes widened, and she shoved at my shoulder half-hear

KAREN’S POVThe warm water had barely stopped running when I felt Jackson tug at my wrist. I looked up from the sink just in time to see the playful grin tugging at his lips.“Hey, where are we going?” I laughed, drying my hands on the towel hanging by the counter. He didn’t slow down. “Home,” he said simply, as if that explained everything.I raised a brow. “You mean your house?”“Our house, Karen. Did you forget already?” he corrected without missing a beat, throwing me a look over his shoulder. “Now come on before Liam starts getting ideas.”Just as we reached the front door, Liam’s voice echoed behind us. “Easy there, Jackson! Go easy on my sister-in-law, will you?”Jackson glanced back, groaning in mock irritation. “Mind your business, nosy!” he called out, shooting his brother a glare that had no real heat in it.I couldn’t stop giggling as he scooped me up like I weighed nothing. “Jackson!” I squealed.“What?” he said, pressing a kiss to my cheek as he carried me across the yar

HANNAH’S POVThe moment I saw that car pull into the driveway, my heart almost stopped. I had been standing outside for nearly twenty minutes, arms folded tightly across my chest, trying to act like I wasn’t about to fall apart from the nerves. I knew they were coming. I knew they were safe. But it wasn’t real—not really—until I saw them with my own eyes. When the doors opened and I saw my children step out, it was like the air rushed back into my lungs. Jackson. Liam. Laila. My babies. My husband. Back and safe. I didn’t wait. I couldn’t.I ran straight for them, pulling all three into my arms, clutching them so hard I was afraid I might hurt them—but I didn’t care. I needed to feel them. Needed to make sure they were really there, breathing and warm and whole. The moment we stepped inside, the warm scent of roasted lamb, spiced stew, and freshly baked bread wrapped around us like a soft blanket. The dining table was already set—plates, cutlery, pitchers of juice and wine, and enough

LAILA’S POVThe pack house shrank in the side mirror, its towering silhouette dissolving into the distance as the car carried us farther away. I kept my eyes on the mirror until the pack house grew too small to see—not even a shadow remained. Alex stood where we’d left him, hand raised in farewell. I didn’t look away until he vanished from sight.I sat back, folded my arms across my chest, and let out a quiet breath. My chest felt tight, like I’d left a part of me behind. Maybe I had.“Are you okay?” Jackson asked from the front seat. His voice was casual, but I knew he was watching me through the rearview mirror.I gave a soft shrug. “Yeah. Just… tired, I guess.”Karen reached over and squeezed my hand. “You were amazing back there. He needed you. You gave him the strength to stand.”I didn’t respond right away. My throat felt thick. I glanced at Karen, then out the window again. Trees blurred past as the sun climbed higher, spreading gold across the horizon—making everything look wa

ALEX’S POVThe golden warmth of the morning sun spilled across my skin, coaxing me awake. For a blissful second, I lingered in that hazy space between sleep and consciousness, the scent of dew-kissed grass and distant pine filling my lungs. Then reality crashed in.My eyes flew open, darting to the empty space beside me.Laila.A fist of panic slammed into my chest, stealing my breath. Had she left? Without a word? Without letting me memorize her face one last time?“Laila?” My voice came out rough, sleep still clinging to the edges. I pushed myself up too fast, and fire lanced through my ribs—a brutal reminder of the fight. I gritted my teeth, but the pain didn’t matter. Only she did. Then I saw her. There, framed by the sunrise, she stood by the window. The light painted her in gold, catching the soft waves of her hair, the curve of her shoulders. She looked like something out of a dream—one I never wanted to wake from.Relief flooded me, so fierce it made my throat tight. She turne
