My Papa, Lucio Rosa, stood up abruptly. "Have you thought this through?"

I clenched my fists and nodded solemnly. "But I have one condition. From now on, I'll control every asset and connection that Mamma left me."

He agreed without hesitation before probing, "Since you've agreed to marry into the Santis family, your bodyguard…"

"I don't want him anymore."

I pushed the door open and said firmly, "I don't want anything aside from what Mamma left me."

Before I shut the door, I glanced back at Papa one last time. He was humming to himself, relieved that my illegitimate sister's marriage crisis was resolved. Then he eagerly pulled out a calculator and started counting the profits from the marriage.

The Santis family had offered two ports as a wedding gift, amounting to a deal worth 1 billion dollars. Papa had lost his appetite for the past month, trying to convince me to take Leonora Rosa's place.

I had been missing for three days. When I reappeared barefoot and covered in blood, Lucio hadn't offered so much as a single word of concern.

I had to accept the truth that my Papa and the man I loved favored the same person— Leonora.

I dragged my battered body to my room. The housekeeper, Rita Morelli, rushed over and supported me. "Where have you been, Ms. Rosa? Why are you so badly injured?"

She began to gently clean my wounds with warm water as her eyes brimmed with tears.

"I heard you didn't make it to the trade summit. Leonora took your place and stole the spotlight. But she doesn't know anything. How on earth did she manage to win everyone over?"

I lowered my gaze and recalled the conversation between Marco and the Soldati earlier.

"Mr. Marco, Viviana is the undisputed prodigy of the West Coast. Her analytical reports are outstanding. Only you despise her and would secretly steal her work to hand it to Leonora."

Marco said coldly, "Viviana grew up under the protection of two mafia families and has led a comfortable life. Leonora is different. She's had it rough and lived in the slums with her mom. She's lucky to have survived. If Leonora had the same opportunities as Viviana, she would be just as brilliant.

"I can't bear to see her being so insecure."

I couldn't help but scoff. The younger son of the Santis family had stooped to be my bodyguard just to protect a secret, illegitimate daughter. If that wasn't enough, he’d stolen my report and even orchestrated a life-threatening ambush just to get me out of the way so Leonora could shine.

Marco, did you really love her so much? Enough to put my life on the line?

A strong perfume scent snapped me out of my thoughts. Leonora swayed into the room and said, "Viviana, you're finally home? Were you out on a three-day tryst with some man?"

She was dressed in a custom gown, with the diamond necklace Papa had bought for her glittering around her neck.

"Everyone on the West Coast now knows about your scandalous past. Viviana of the Rosa family and a dozen thugs—"

Before Leonora could finish speaking, Rita lunged forward and shoved her.

"Liar! You've been spreading the rumors to frame Viviana. I'll kill you!"

Leonora shrieked and stumbled back. She fell into a broad, firm chest.

I looked up and caught Marco's murderous glare.

"You think you can just be the Don of the Santis family? Marco, you can't make that decision yourself," I said with a sneer."And why should anyone else get to decide my fate?" Marco squeezed my hand against his chest. His grip was so hard I thought my bones would snap. "I have been secretly hiding on the West Coast all these years. The only thing that kept me alive was the thought of our future. How could I stand by and watch you play the doting wife to my crippled brother?"I scoffed and replied, "A future with me? You nearly killed me. We don't have a future together."Marco grabbed my shoulders and shouted. "Listen to me! The enemy has killed Leonora. Once I get rid of Romolo and become the Santis family's Don, we can go anywhere we want and start over.""Start over? You pushed me into the abyss, Marco. You!" I hissed.Marco leaned in to kiss me. He wouldn't let go even after I bit down on his lip. Suddenly, the van screeched to a halt. The momentum sent me crashing to the

Leonora collapsed on the floor. She lunged for Marco and clutched his ankles."Say something, Marco! You wouldn't let me marry that playboy from the Fabbri family, right? Don't you want me to be part of the Santis family? I could be there with Viviana. We belong together!"Marco kicked her away in disgust. "Get off me!"As Leonora broke down, Papa signaled his bodyguards to drag her out. "This is for the good of the family. Besides, isn't it great to be a member of the Fabbri family?"Costantino watched Leonora with a lecherous gaze as he practically undressed her in his mind.Don Fabbri shook Papa's hand and said, "With a daughter as talented as yours by our side, our business will be unstoppable."Leonora was forced to sit with the Fabbris during the dinner banquet. Her eyes were brimming with tears as Costantino roamed suggestively up her thigh.Marco sat beside Romolo and me. His eyes were locked on me the entire time. To twist the knife, I tended to Romolo's every need, l

My words hit Marco hard. He collapsed onto the cold marble floor, slamming his fist against the ground in a fit of rage and despair. "You saved me…"He finally understood why Leonora had spent years forcing her way into his life and clawing for his attention, yet never once giving him that same warmth he'd felt in Mortira. He had been plagued by an inner turmoil, a phantom ache in his chest every time he hurt me. He was a guilty man who had failed to recognize his savior.Marco looked at me, his gaze brimming with remorse.I smirked and replied, "You hurt me again and again. You abandoned me in the wild forest so that Leonora could have her moment to shine. You stole my report and handed it to her so that she could appear talented. You conspired with Leonora to frame me for poisoning Lady Carla, leaving me to be tortured by electric shock. "Your men even drove Rita to her death. She's the housekeeper I grew up with."My voice rose with every word, fueled by pure rage."Is thi

"Don't reveal my identity to her," Marco whispered to Romolo and me. He then turned his back on Leonora and left. The gala celebrating his return to the Santis family was set for tomorrow. He was probably intending to go public with his engagement to Leonora that night. The mafia world was already buzzing with rumors before the gala began. A young master had ordered a rare, 20-carat diamond ring so that he could propose to Leonora. When others sought to confirm the news with Leonora, she replied mysteriously, "Oh, it must be the Santis' younger son. He has been pursuing me for quite some time."I wasn't interested in the mafia families' gossip and focused instead on my afternoon tea. While Romolo and I were selecting the best fruit from the platter, I felt someone was watching over my back.I asked Adelina to accompany me to the garden to get some sun. I wanted to find out the source of that stare. It was Marco. He followed after me and lost my trail near a secluded wing of the

Everyone was convinced that the chosen heir, Romolo, had been paralyzed by poison when he was young, which was why he was unfit to lead.It seemed inevitable that Marco would rule the Santis family, and rival factions were watching their every move. The arms dealer had grown increasingly bold, and the Santis family was displeased with him.Marco's secret return to the West Coast was only the beginning. He was trying to figure out how deep the alliance between the Rosa family and his uncle's weapons empire was.I hadn't expected to learn of the Santis family's secrets on my first day as Romolo's wife. I walked into the church dressed in a designer dress. I was moments away from becoming Romolo's wife as we stood before the priest at the altar.Suddenly, the silence was shattered by the sound of frantic running.Marco burst into the church, his gaze sweeping frantically across the crowd. "Leonora!" he bellowed. He was certain that I would never stoop to marry Romolo, the crippled heir of the Santis family. Thus, he feared that Leonora was about to become Romolo's wife. Marco was livid. "No wonder Viviana sent me all the way to Sandola. She wants Leonora to marry while I'm gone," he thought. His hand was on the gun holster, looking as though he wanted to put a bullet in my head. As he ran toward the bride, someone pulled his leather jacket and said, "You're finally here! Where have you been, Marco? I couldn't reach you."Marco lowered his gaze and saw Leonora smiling sweetly at him. If the bride wasn't Leonora, then it had to be… His heart skipped a beat when the truth hi
