Chapter 5

Hannah's POV

"Sean, I need you to do something for me. Pull your phone out and search for the damn museum hotline. Tell them we have a very rare species here." Lance exclaimed.

Why am I even saying this to a person I just met? At least I didn't tell my darkest secret.

Sean chuckled, hearing Lance groan. "I don't see how you've managed to keep men's hands off you," Lance grumbled.

I was about to sigh but I stopped myself. I knew that Lance would say something about me sighing.

"How did you get this fear anyways?" Sean's words caused my balance to waver. I was about to bring up an excuse when Lance's eyes widened.

"Hannah, I think it is best you leave through the back door immediately. The Smith guy has a beeline towards you. Get going, we will talk some other time." He confirmed, before giving me a shove.

I didn't waste time and started walking to the back door. I carefully avoided the Smith guy's gaze and exited through the back door.

Closing the door, I leaned against it, taking deep breaths. My eyes moved around in the dark, trying to look for a pathway from the pub. But it was too dark for anything to be seen.

I must be in a place where even the moonlight doesn't shine, just like my sad heart.

My eyes fluttered closed as I continued to take deep breaths. Just then, I heard some shuffling. My ears picked up someone shuffling.

Before I knew it, I was pressed into the door by someone. I opened my mouth to scream but a pair of lips shut me up.

The soft pair explored my lips before diving into my mouth. A tongue touched mine and I gasped, allowing more space for the tongue to delve in deeper. The taste of alcohol flooded my mouth as the smell attacked my nose.

I struggled against the grip of my hands which were pressed into the door by my head. The pair of lips pulled away to murmur something into my ear.

"Shhh. Relax, it's me." A very familiar voice sounded in my ear.

HUHH! It's him! What is he even doing?

"You remember me right? I'm your husband. I am legally wedded to you, remember?" He slurred. My heart pounded against my chest.

He's so close!

I nodded, hoping he would move away. But he pressed his body into mine, his chest touching mine. I started taking deeper breaths as my anxiety started to kick in. He blew out a breath before continuing.

"I want you to move back in. You cannot argue with me about this. Move out of the hotel and move into the mansion." He ordered, his words slurring.

I think he drank quite a lot.

Confusion sat in as I continued taking deep breaths.

"Why should I move back in?" My voice, small as an ant. He let out a chuckle before laughing wholeheartedly.

"Because I said so. It is your duty to listen to your husband, right?" He asked, his grip tightening on my wrists.

"I want to know the reason why." I stood my ground, my breathing slowing down as anger filled in.

"I don't like it when you talk with other men. First, your colleague. Then, my best friend. Then, the bartender. And then the bouncer. I just hate it that you don't talk to me but you talk with other strangers." His grip tightened, definitely leaving bruises.

I winced in pain, but he seemed to ignore it. "You are moving back into the mansion or..." he paused, schemingly thinking. "You will see what I will do if you don't move in." He finished.

My anger had vanished away as my anxiety once again stepped in. He gazed deep into my eyes, before lowering his lips to mine.

Before the contact could happen, I turned my head as his lips rested on my cheek. I gave out a gasp, tugging on my wrists. He kissed my cheek deeply as he had kissed my lips.

He pulled away before chuckling. "Oh, the fun I am going to have with you." He muttered before letting my wrists free. I rubbed on them to ease the pain.

When my fingers touched the bruises, I winced in pain. My heart hurt when he said he wanted to have fun with me.

I am not some piece of tissue to be used and thrown. But my mind wandered.

He isn't going to remember. He was too drunk. He isn't going to remember kissing me. Plus, that was my first kiss.

The next day

Back to back surgeries doesn't make you think about your daily worries.

Luckily the coat is long-sleeved. Plus I am wearing gloves just in case.

The bruises had turned blue-black, very much off-colour to my skin tone. The concealer had not worked.

Wiping my brows, I picked up the file for the hit-and-run case. The poor girl has a chance of losing her memories because of the accident. She was still in a coma.

I sighed, reading the recent updates. A figure stood in front of me, blocking my path. My head jerked up to see who it was.

"Where did you go? I didn't reach home and I ended up in someone's bed. The main reason I brought you there was that if I get too drunk, you will be able to drive me home. Where did you go?" Joseph questioned.

"I left. You were flirting relentlessly with a girl so I decided not to disturb you and left." I lied once again. This time he didn't catch my lie.

"You could have at least told me before leaving." He pouted. I let a small laugh tumble from my lips.

"You weren't in the mood to listen to me. You had drunk too much!" I replied, suppressing my laughter.

Just then a nurse came up to us. " Dr Moore, a patient is looking for you. Ward 23, bed 14." The nurse informed me. I nodded at the nurse and turned to Joseph.

"You will drop me home, right?" Joseph's face lit up as soon as my words reached his ears.

"Of course, Darling!" He ushered me to walk. I sent him a smile before setting the pace towards the ward.

I walked fast towards the elevator and got down to level three. Taking a few turns here and there, I got into ward number twenty-three.

"Dr Moore, the patient is looking for you. Bed 14!" The nurse behind the counter informed. I sent her a smile before heading toward the bed.

The curtains of each bed were drawn out, blocking the patients. Counting the beds, I reached for the curtains.

I slipped in and closed the curtains. I turned around to meet the familiar face.
