Chapter One the Proposition

last update publish date: 2026-05-26 16:03:39

He didn’t knock, just walked in wearing a dark suit sharp inked skin, shit clinging to him like even the fabric knew not to cross him his authority never to be questioned. His sleeves are rolled, his voice low, eyes slowly trace over every inch of her. Valerio Ricci doesn’t waste time when you try to speak he only lifts his hand calm-quiet-direct, and she just stops dead in her tracks. He steps closer, one hand in his pocket, the other brushing back the hair from his face and says Zara Blackwood your father owes me money a lot of money and since Daddy can’t pay… someone has to.

Her breath catches at the site before, confusion her thoughts running wild how did her father owe him money he doesn’t gamble what is going on here why would he be saying this… She tried to ask what he means as, he leans in- So so close, his voice skims her throat seductively you want the debt cleared? Then come with me. I’ll make sure you pay… but not with money. She crosses her arms, summoning courage she doesn’t entirely feel and asks, if I’m going to pay my father’s debt, I deserve to know exactly what I’m worth to you. How much did he owe anyway? She asks him outright. A smile crosses his face-not warm, Sharp, he appreciates the spine in her. He reply's Two hundred and fifty thousand. Said it the way someone else might say hello-casual, conversational, as if it is nothing.

He continues Zora your father though he was smarter than the house, He wasn’t. He straightens, rolling his shoulders back. His eyes never leave yours. But that’s not what this is about anymore, Zora. The way he says your name-like he’s been practicing it, makes you pause. Two-fifty clears the debt. What happens between us now? That’s something else entirely. He moves toward the window, silhouetted against the city lights bleeding through. So, you coming, or do I need to make this harder on your family? She answers questioning...You said it would clear the debt are you going back on that now? Or are you just super demanding on how fast this happens? And where would we be going anyway?

He doesn’t turn around. His jaw tightens-just slightly-at the accusation. The debt clears. That’s what I said, that’s what I meant. His voice drops lower. I don’t go back on my word, Zora. That’s not how I operate. He finally turns to face her, and there’s something almost wounded in his expression before it hardens again. We’re going to my place, uptown. You’ll have everything you need-security, comfort, whatever. He steps closer, his cologne cutting through the space between them-something expensive, dark. But you need to understand something. Two-fifty buys you family freedom. What I want from you? That’s a separate arrangement entirely. His hand extends towards her in a suggestive manner indicating the seal of a contract. So, are you coming willingly, or do I carry yo out?

I guess that’s what confused me, you said coming with you clears the debt and that at the same time it’s different I find that difficult to ascertain…. I want to be clear so I don’t make mistakes or anger you or myself. She asked for clarity without pretense while looking deeply into his eyes he feels disarmed slightly. He studies her for a long moment, and something shifts in his expression-less predator, more human. He lowers his hand. You’re right, I wasn’t clear, He move to the couch, sits like he owns it, and gestures for her to do the same. The debt-two-fifty-that’s done. Your father pays me, or you come work it off. Either way, the ledger balances and your family walks free, No retaliation, that’s the business part. His eyes find hers. But I didn’t send men to collect because of money, Zora. I came myself.

He leans forward. So when I ask you to come with me, that’s separate. That’s me wanting you near. No strings attached to the debt-you’re free regardless. But I’d prefer you choose to stay. He waits on borrowed breath…Does that make sense now? You???? She looks up at him through her eyelashes and takes a deep breath and asks you want me for…. For another reason?? what is that, Why?

would you want me?? She asks heart beating fast trying to make sense of it all. His chest rises, falls. The silence stretches-long enough that she can hear the city humming below. You’re fifty-five and you ride a motorcycle like you’re still twenty-five. You walk into a room and people listen without you saying a word. He stands, moves to the window again. You have a heart that shouldn’t exist in the world-counseling addicts, believing in people nobody else will touch. When he turns back, his eyes are different, darker, hungrier. I’ve watched you for three months, Zora. Before you father ever owed me anything.

His voice cracks slightly-just enough to prove he’s real. So yes, yes, Zora I want you for another reason. I want you because I can’t stop thinking about you. She starts blushing and breathing heavily she can’t believe what he’s just confessed 3 months and she had no idea about it.

It’s both creepy and flattering at the same time but he is some kind of Greek god looking guy strong powerful, why … I’m nothing special Yes he sees the outside but inside is much different and I’m not a super model she thinks to herself.

Then she looks at him really looks at him and sees the cracks in the armor and the loneliness behind his eyes and she melts.

He watches the blush creep up her neck, sees her chest rise and fall faster.

His hands clench at his sides-fighting the urge to close the distance, he’s watched her long enough to know that she doesn’t think she’s special or important and he sees it written on her face as he says.. You think you're nothing special that's where you’re wrong. His voice was rougher unguarded , He moves toward her slowly-not threatening, just inevitable. Like gravity. Three months of watching you help people who’ve destroyed themselves, of seeing you smile at a sunrise from you bike like the world hasn’t beaten you down yet. Three months of knowing I’m going to hell for wanting someone like you. Not because your not good enough but because I’m not.

He stops just close enough that she can feel the heat radiating off him. And I know what a woman like you would automatically think of and I don’t need a supermodel, Zora. I need someone real. Someone who sees me like this- He gestures to himself, the cracks visible now.-and doesn’t run. She swallows hard then says Why the theater why not just find a way to meet me ans see what happens naturally … why do all this what was the reason?? He exhales like she’s asked the one question that matters. Because men like me don’t get to approach women like you in coffee shops. We don’t get normal, your father’s debt was convenient-an excuse my conscience could live with. A reason to be near you that didn’t feel like what it actually is.

He runs a hand through his hair, frustrated with himself. If I’d just shown up at your door three months ago saying I wanted to know you? You’d have called the police. So I waited for a reason that made sense. A reason that gave you a choice, even if the choice felt forced. He meets her eyes. I’m not a good man, Zora. But I’m honest and I needed you to see that before anything else. She chuckles Hmm that’s twisted.. your nuts you know that right… She laughs and shakes her head looking at him like he has just said the most immature thing in the world. So now what do you expect from me now??A genuine laugh escapes him-the first real one. It transforms his face, softens the edges.

Twisted is generous,, he says as he sits back down, and gestures for her to sit in the spot beside him. I expect you to come with me, stay for a while. Let me show you that this isn’t just obsession-its something real and if you decide it’s too much, that I’m too much? You walk. The debt stays cleared. Your family stays safe. No consequences. He leans back, studying her. His voice drops. But I’m betting you won’t leave. Zora thinks and says So... you want to go from stalking me, to threats, to living together in one afternoon you don’t move slowly do you? So what would ever make me think that you would be able to have any sort of longevity but I suppose that doesn’t matter now I will go for there really isn’t another choice at the moment. I need to take care of my family.

He goes very still at that. The words land differently that she intends-he hears the resignation in them. The lack of real choice. Something flickers across his face. Regret, maybe. Or recognition. You’re right, I don't move slowly. He stands, extends his hand again. This time it’s different-less demand, more invitation, with a slight plea. But I will for you. Because if you're only coming because there's no other choice, then I haven’t won anything yet. His voice is quieter now, stripped of its certainly. Pack a bag, One night. See how it feels, and if you want out tomorrow, you’re out. No strings, no debt hanging over your head. I meant what I said. He waits, palm open nervously, The choice is actually yours now, Zora..

Hmm well we shall see but I suppose it won’t kill me right? She looks at his hand as she starts to reach for it heart pounding and thoughts running wild I know nothing of this man he could be a serial killer..Wait how do I know your safe? How do I ensure my safety? He chuckles at her words thinking a little late for that…I’m Valerio Ricci one of the richest men in the world the richest in this city you have my word.. Goggle me right now and you will see. She looks him up on her phone Valerio Ricci suspected mob boss, business owner, contractor, eligible bachelor, etc., and she is more baffled than before as to why her…

Very well then I see She says

looking baffled and unsure of the world as she knows it. He chuckles softly as her hand slides into his-warm, real. His fingers close around hers with surprising gentleness, like he’s afraid she’ll dissolve. I won’t Kill you I don’t even plan on hurting you at all. He says as a ghost of that dangerous smile returns. Probably won’t kill you, and he chuckles again He pulls her up slowly, steadying her. Their

bodies are close now-close enough that she catches the warmth beneath his cologne.

Pack light We leave in ten minutes. He says as he reaches up, brushes a strand of hair from her face with one knuckle-deliberate, intimate. And Zora? Thank you for choosing to walk through that door. I’ll wait downstairs be quick.

He lets go reluctantly and walks towards the door. He pauses at the threshold without turning back. The city lights catch the tension in his shoulders.

She asks Valerio? He turns and looks over his shoulder with a puzzled look and she says I will be right there don’t worry. He pauses mid-step, shoulders tensing at the sound of his name on her lips. When he turns, there’s something raw in his expression-like hearing her say it changed something. I know you will. His eyes hold hers for a beat longer than necessary, then he nods. A promise, a question, acknowledgment, that she called him by something intimate. He disappears down the hallway, and she hears the elevator doors open and close. The apartment falls silent except for the hum of the city outside, the distant sound of his footsteps fading.

She’s alone now-really alone-with ten minutes to decide what she’s actually packing for, a night, a test, or something that might unravel her. She stands in front of her closet and sighs asking herself what the hell am I doing I must be just as unhinged as he is for going along with this, is Dad getting senile, this is something is not normal, and she’s worried, She grabs things, her medicine plus stuff for Enzo, hope he understands he gets both of us, she says to the dog her trusty French Bulldog.

Enzo’s ears perk at the tone in her voice. He waddles over, his compact body pressing against her as she throws clothes into her suitcase-leggings, sweaters, bras, sleepwear, practical boring. Nothing that says she’s about to walk into the penthouse of a rich stalker..He follows her while she grabs her medications, vitamins toiletries. He knows something’s different. Animals always do, as she grabs his things.

  • Loves Healing Redemption   Chapter 22 Love Beyond the Beginning

For a long moment, no one spoke. The conversation lingered in the hearts of everyone gathered around the table. What had begun as a welcome dinner had quietly become the foundation of a shared dream, one that was beginning to take shape before their very eyes.Eventually, the comfortable silence gave way to contented smiles as chairs scraped softly across the hardwood floor. Empty plates were gathered, glasses collected, and everyone instinctively began helping clear the table, despite Antonella's gentle protests that the staff would take care of everything.Marco pushed back his chair and stood, his mind already racing with tomorrow's plans. Looking toward the kitchen, he smiled. I'll prepare lunch.Several heads turned toward him in surprise before warm smiles spread around the room. Vicki watches him move-fluid, purposeful. Her body betrays her again with that skip. She rises as she says I’ll help. She follows him without thinking. Val and Zora exchange knowing glances as their voi

  • Loves Healing Redemption   Chapter 21 More Than a Project

Marco looked from Vicki to Zora, unable to hide the smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. Their excitement filled the room like sunlight breaking through storm clouds. Every suggestion about the upcoming fair seemed to spark three more ideas, and their laughter bounced off the high ceilings, carrying a warmth that had been absent from the estate for far too long. For a brief moment, Marco simply watched them.Zora's eyes danced with enthusiasm as she described colorful booths, handcrafted decorations, and games that would bring the entire community together. Beside her, Vicki leaned forward, already adding ideas of her own, her hands moving animatedly as though she could already see the celebration unfolding before them.Their energy was contagious.Just then, the dining room doors opened.Antonella stepped gracefully inside, her ever-present calm contrasting beautifully with the lively conversation. Behind her came several members of the household staff, each carefully guiding po

The week passed in a blur of unpacking boxes, meeting with the architect to finalize plans for the repair shop, and coordinating countless details around the estate. Between directing movers, settling Val's belongings into their new home, and giving the staff instructions on where everything belonged, there was barely a moment left to breathe. Every day seemed to bring another list of decisions, meetings, and unexpected tasks, leaving both of them exhausted by nightfall. As much as they had looked forward to visiting the horses, life simply got in the way. They promised themselves they would make time once everything was finally in place. Now, with the last of the moving trucks unloaded and the house beginning to feel like home, Vicki's arrival was only a day away. To celebrate, they decided to spend the following day together at a livestock and farmers' fair two counties over before stopping on the drive home to finally pick up the horses.
