Chapter Twenty-Five: By the River

When I saw her rushed out I knew something was terribly wrong. Excusing myself, I rushed after her. She was a good distance ahead of me and I wanted to catch her up but when I saw that she had run into the ladies' room and closed the door behind her, I knew that she didn't want me inside with her. Calling her name, I waited for her to answer. I raised my fist to bang on the door when I heard a thud in the bathroom.

“Emily,” I shouted, but there was still no answer. Holding on to the door handle, I prayed that the door was open and no one else was in the bathroom and nothing bad had happened to her. Turning the handle, I was relieved that the door was in fact opened because I knew she was famous for locking doors. Poking my head inside, I saw that she was on the floor and that the bathroom was empty.
