Chapter 6

Author: No Rush
I screamed and jolted awake. As I gasped for breath, a flight attendant's gentle voice pulled me back to reality.

"Ma'am, are you alright? We'll be landing soon."

I took a moment to steady myself. Only then did I realize I was on the plane, and my seatbelt was securely fastened.

Outside the window, an unfamiliar city stretched out below. For the first time in what felt like forever, a sense of peace settled over me.

I took a deep breath and pressed a hand to my lower abdomen. Thankfully, my uterus was intact. I'd made it in time.

Dragging my suitcase behind me, I stepped out of the airport and into the sunlight. The warmth enclosed me, easing the nightmare's lingering chill.

At that very moment, I felt like life was giving me a second chance.

Then, I snapped my SIM card in half before tossing it into a trash can by the curb.

I was certain Ambrose would text me. But I had no interest in reading his messages or hearing any more of his pathetic excuses.

  • Loving You Was My Last Mistake   Chapter 10

At my words, Ambrose lowered his head and buried his face in his hands. His shoulders trembled as his sobs grew louder. "I-I'm sorry. I'm so sorry for all the terrible things I've done."He was the son of the esteemed Sinclair family and the youngest chief surgeon at Ashforde General Hospital. Ambrose had a brilliant future ahead of him. But now, he couldn't even find a single eligible woman through introductions. The moment people in his circle heard about the things he'd done, they all backed away in fear.It had taken him a long time to finally find someone who actually took an interest in him. Unfortunately, Nellie, who was as crazy as ever, had ruined everything. Sometimes, people really did get what they deserved.Still, seeing Ambrose in such a state brought me no satisfaction. His so-called guilt was nothing but crocodile tears. It was insincere to the core.As I stood to leave, he grabbed the hem of my shirt and begged, "Tali, please… Give me another chance.""You'

I turned to look out the window. The streets bustled with traffic and the constant movement of people. Everyone out there had their own story.Mine, however, had been torn apart and rewritten into something I could hardly recognize, all because of Ambrose. His apology meant nothing. It could never make up for the hurt he had caused me.…After that day, Ambrose vanished. But from time to time, I'd catch sight of him at the gallery. He'd stand off in the distance, watching me in silence. Occasionally, he'd buy a painting or two. Yet, I couldn't help but scoff at what he thought was affection. …Not long after, I changed jobs. I rented a small space downtown and opened a cafe of my own. The smell of coffee lingered in the air. Each day, I'd meet people from all walks of life. Life grew busy for me.At last, Ambrose faded from my life. Still, news about him would reach me now and then. …Kendrick pretended to take a sip from his cup before finally speaking. "I heard Am

Ambrose's eyes brimmed with resignation, and his voice carried a subtle plea as he began, "I know you won't believe a word I say, but I need to say it anyway. While you were gone, I realized I was actually in love with you. I just didn't know it before.""I thought we both understood from the start that this was all a lie," I replied coldly. The corners of my mouth curled up in a mocking smile. I added, "There was never any real feeling between us. So, where exactly would love fit into that? Ambrose, do you honestly think I'm that naive?"He stepped forward, wanting to close the distance between us. However, my icy glare stopped him in his tracks. Left with no choice, he stood rooted to the spot. "I'm here to take you home. I swear, I won't lay a finger on you. As for Nellie, I can't be bothered with her anymore."His voice grew more desperate with each word he spoke. Just as he was about to continue, his phone rang abruptly in his pocket, cutting him off.Frustrated, Ambrose

After I saw the customer out, Kendrick sauntered over with a teasing smile. "Well, I never thought the Fanning heiress would end up with a job like this."I shot him a cold glance and replied flatly, "And I never imagined the great Mr. Thorne would have the time to browse a tiny gallery like this. Thinking of buying a painting to support my little business?"He let out a dry chuckle. "You sure ran off in a hurry and made me look like a complete fool. Do you know that Nellie's video is all over the internet now? Also, Ambrose is tearing the city apart looking for you. Should I tell him you're here?" he shot back. His tone was tinged with mockery. My smile didn't waver. "Do whatever you want. I'm sure a man like you doesn't need my permission."Kendrick clicked his tongue, looking almost disappointed. "You're always like this. So dull."He was a playboy, and I had known that the moment our families arranged our engagement. He lived for the thrill, chasing women just to prove he c

  • Loving You Was My Last Mistake   Chapter 5

After changing into his tuxedo, Ambrose couldn't shake the unease gnawing at him. The wedding march had already begun, yet I, the bride, was nowhere to be seen. Suddenly, a bridesmaid rushed over. Panic was etched across her pale face. "Ambrose, something's wrong! T-Talitha's missing!"His heart skipped a beat as a terrible sense of foreboding washed over him. He immediately pulled out his phone and called me, only to find that my phone was turned off. Worried I might have gone to confront Nellie, Ambrose quickly dialed her number. To his relief, she said she hadn't seen me. He forced himself to stay calm, telling himself I was probably just nervous and had stepped away to take a breather. But a second later, a commotion from the banquet hall shattered that illusion. Ambrose rushed to the entrance and froze. On the massive screen, a video had begun to play. It showed him and Nellie wrapped around each other in our bedroom. Gasps rippled through the crowd, followed by a
