Chapter 26: Lounging on his bed

*Melissa's POV*

I woke up with a hangover, my head pounding heavily. I didn't drink much at all last night at the club, but I had a very low tolerance for alcohol. I groggily got out of the bed and made my way to the bathroom, my eyes half closed.

I turned on the faucet and splashed water on my face, trying to ease the throbbing. But the water didn't seem to help, and I ended up pouring some of it over my head, letting out a soft groan.

As I emerged from the bathroom, my eyes scanned the room, searching for Williams. But he was nowhere to be found. I concluded he must had left for work already.

My mind began to replay the heated argument we had the night before. I bit my lips, feeling the annoyance and anger resurface. I wished I could escape and run away from this toxic marriage, but I knew I couldn't. My father's safety was tied to my staying with Williams, and I couldn't risk putting him in harm's way.
