Damon's POV

I was in my office having a meeting with some mafia leaders. We were talking about our next plans when I heard a knock on the door.

"Come in," I said.

The door opened, and it was Marco.

Since our meeting was already over, I told the mafia leaders they could leave. They laughed, said goodbye, and walked out of my office.

Soon, only Marco, my uncle Sebastian, and I were left.

Marco walked over to my uncle and handed him a file.

My uncle opened it and looked through the papers. They were about someone we all knew.

Marco looked at him and asked, "Do you remember him?"

My uncle nodded.

"Yes," he said. "I remember Detective Adrian. He was the detective in charge of Lorenzo's murder case. But after some time, I gave the case to another detective because Adrian could not solve it."

I held out my hand.

"Let me see the file," I said.

My uncle gave it to me.

I opened the file and started reading every page carefully. As I looked through the papers, I wanted to know why Marco had brought Detective Adrian's file to us. Something told me there was an important reason.

I kept reading, waiting to discover what Marco had found.

As I looked through the file, I saw the man's details. He had once been a sheriff. I looked up at my uncle.

"How can you say he wasn't good enough?" I asked. "His record says he solved many murder cases. He was one of the best."

My uncle gave a small laugh.

"He was smart," he said. "But Victor was his close friend. He wanted to protect him, even though he knew Victor was guilty."

I looked down at Adrian's picture again. He looked brave and serious.

After a few seconds, I turned to Marco.

"Why did you bring me his file?" I asked.

Marco took a deep breath.

"He came back to town today," he said. "But he died in a traffic accident."

I froze.

"What?" I said quietly.

Marco lowered his head.

"Yes, boss. He died."

I slammed the file onto the desk so hard that everyone in the room jumped.

"No!" I shouted as I stood up. "That can't be true!"

The room became silent.

I stared at Marco, hoping he would tell me it was all a mistake.

"Are you sure?" I asked.

Marco nodded slowly.

"The police confirmed it. His car crashed only a short time ago."

I clenched my fists. My heart was beating fast.

"This wasn't an accident," I said. "Someone wanted him dead."

My uncle looked at me.

"You think someone killed him?"

I nodded.

"He was getting close to the truth," I said. "Whoever was hiding the real killer couldn't let him stay alive."

I picked up the file again and held it tightly.

"What does this person really want?" I asked. "Every death so far has been connected to my family."

Marco folded his arms.

"Whoever killed Detective Adrian had a reason," he said. "Adrian must have found something important. He was getting close to the truth, and someone wanted to stop him before he could tell anyone."

The room became quiet.

My uncle stood up and picked up his coat.

"In the end," he said, "all of this will lead to something much bigger than we can see right now. Be careful, Damon. I have another meeting, so I have to leave."

I gave him a small nod.

"Alright, Uncle. Drive safely."

He smiled, nodded, and walked out of the office.

After the door closed, I turned to the large window. I looked down at the busy streets below while I slowly sipped my glass of whiskey. My mind was full of questions.

Who was behind all these deaths?

Why was my family being targeted?

And who would be next?

I set the glass on my desk and looked at Marco.

"Send some of our men to watch Elias," I ordered. "I want someone following him at all times."

Marco listened carefully.

"Watch his house, his office, and even his parents' grave," I continued. "If he goes anywhere, I want to know. The killer may be watching him too."

Marco nodded.

"Do you think Elias is in danger, boss?" he asked.

"I do," I answered. "Right now, he is the only person we know who is connected to this mystery. If the killer thinks Elias knows something, they may come after him next."

Marco placed his hand on his chest.

"Don't worry, sir," he said. "I'll make sure our best men protect him."

"Good," I replied. "Tell them to stay hidden. Elias must not know they are watching him."

"Yes, sir."

Marco turned around and left the office.

I looked out the window one more time.

"Whoever you are," I whispered, "I'm going to find you before you take another life."

Chapter 17Damon's POVI got an invitation from the state police inviting me to the funeral service of Detective Adrian Cross. He had died in a terrible traffic accident, and even though I had not known him for a very long time, his death affected me deeply. There were still so many questions I wanted to ask him, especially about my father's murder case. Detective Cross had been one of the people connected to the case, and I had hoped that one day he would tell me everything he knew. Now that he was dead, I felt as if some of my answers had been buried with him.I sat quietly in my office, staring at the invitation in my hands. My mind was filled with different thoughts when Uncle Sebastian walked into the room.He looked at me for a moment before speaking.“Damon, did you get an invitation to Detective Adrian's funeral?”I nodded.“Yes, Uncle. I did.”He sighed and sat down.“I don't think I should attend,” he said. “After everything that happened, especially after I was removed from

Elias PovMy phone suddenly rang while I was sitting quietly. I looked at the screen and saw that it was Mrs. Holloway calling. For a moment, I wondered why she was calling me. I had not been going to work for the past few days, so I already knew she might be worried about me.I picked up the phone and answered.“Hello, Mrs. Holloway.”“Hey, Elias. How are you?” she asked.“I’m fine, ma’am,” I replied, even though I knew I was not completely fine. There was a short silence before she spoke again.“If you are fine, then why haven’t you been coming to work for the past few days?”I knew I could not avoid the question forever, so I decided to tell her a little of the truth.“I’m not feeling very well. That’s why I have been on treatment for the past few days.”“Oh, I’m sorry about that, Elias,” she said. Her voice immediately became softer. “Maybe I should come and visit you after work. While I’m coming, I can make some muffins for you.”A small smile appeared on my face.“Thank you

Damon POV I was sitting quietly in my office, staring at the papers scattered across my desk. I had been trying to concentrate on my work, but my mind was somewhere else. After everything that had happened, focusing on anything felt almost impossible. The room was quiet, except for the soft ticking of the clock on the wall. I leaned back in my chair and let out a tired breath.I knew my uncle was angry.I didn't need anyone to tell me.The moment the door opened and he walked into the room, I could already see the disappointment on his face. His eyes were fixed on me, and his expression was serious. He slowly walked toward my desk.“Uncle, I can explain,” I said before he could even speak. He stopped in front of me and crossed his arms.“Explain what, Damon?” he asked. “Explain why you thought it was a good idea to put your life at such a great risk?”I stayed quiet. He continued.“What if those people were still inside the building when that bomb went off? What were you think

Elias's POVDetective Ortega texted me the location of the place where we were supposed to meet. I quickly put on my shoes and grabbed my jacket. Before leaving the house, I checked the address one more time.I wanted to make sure I was going to the right place. When I arrived, I saw Ortega sitting alone at a small restaurant. He was drinking something and looking around the room.I walked over to him."Are you ready?" I asked. He finished his drink and stood up."Yes. Let's go."We both got into his car. Ortega started the engine and drove toward the street shown on the map.The road became quieter as we went farther from the busy part of town. After a while, we reached the street. But something was not right. The place was supposed to have a building where we could find answers. Instead, we saw an old, abandoned building standing by itself. The windows were broken, and the walls looked dirty and damaged.I looked at Ortega."Are you sure this is the right place?"He checked the addr

Elias's POVI asked for permission to leave the auction house early. I told everyone I wanted to rest, but that wasn't the real reason. The truth was, I needed some time alone. So many things had happened, and my mind was full of questions. When I got home, I sat quietly in my living room. The house felt empty and silent.Knock! Knock! Knock!Someone was at my door.I frowned."I wasn't expecting anyone," I said to myself.I didn't have many friends, and no one usually came to visit me. The knocking continued, louder this time.I stood up slowly but didn't open the door right away."What if it's someone dangerous?" I wondered.I looked around the room and saw my father's old baseball bat leaning against the wall. I picked it up, just in case I needed to protect myself.Holding the bat tightly, I walked to the door."Who is it?" I called.A calm voice answered."It's Detective Ortega from the State Police.I froze for a second. What does a detective want with me? I thought. Could this
