Chapter 3

Author: Maroon Cypress
The black bag had a striking blue sticky note attached to it, matching the one on my mountain bike's handlebars.

It was as if she were claiming ownership.

"Sabrina, you're really good at acting, huh?"

I smirked, poking her in the shoulder. "Do you know Zane's injuries weren't caused by a normal bike ride? They're from him lying on the bike while doing things he shouldn't have been doing."

Watching her face freeze, I pressed harder. "So, how did it feel? Was it good? I bet it was thrilling."

Sabrina's face went from pale to flushed with anger. "You're talking nonsense!"

After saying that, she turned to storm into the bedroom.

I stopped her calmly. "I'm giving you a chance to come clean, Sabrina. Don't waste it."

She stopped and looked at me with a complicated gaze. "Adrian, I don't know what gave you the wrong idea, but Zane is a good student. Our relationship is not as filthy as you think! You're just insulting my profession now."

Just then, the harsh ring of her phone broke the tension.

"Ms. Yellin, where are you?"

Zane's voice, which was filled with helplessness, made Sabrina's expression shift to one of concern.

"The hospital is so noisy. I'm scared. Didn't you say you'd bring me food?" he asked.

Sabrina lowered her voice and replied patiently, "I'll be there as soon as I change. Don't worry. Just rest for now."

"Okay, I'll wait for you."

After hanging up, she shot me a quick glance and quickly changed before rushing out.

My mind was a mess. I collapsed on the bed, letting my thoughts wander.

It soon got late, and my stomach began growling. I was about to order takeout when I saw a screenshot from my friend showing Zane's Instagram post.

The caption read, "Being with you makes me feel truly loved for the first time."

The picture was of Sabrina sleeping by his hospital bed.

My heart dropped.

Sabrina had never stayed out overnight before.

My phone buzzed, interrupting my thoughts. When I answered, Leila told me she had found something.

"Adrian…" Her tone was heavy.

"Zane and Sabrina met at a book club three years ago. She's the one who helped him get into graduate school and into her research team."

I gripped the phone tightly.

Leila continued, "My people found out… that there's a hotel record indicating they were together last Christmas Eve."

Christmas Eve?

That night, Sabrina had told me she'd fallen and lost our baby. I'd been devastated then. However, it turned out that she just went to meet Zane in a hotel.

I felt like my soul was drained. I didn't even remember hanging up the phone before I passed out.

Half-awake, I heard someone banging on the door. "Open up!"

I thought about ignoring it, but the banging grew louder.

I reluctantly dragged myself up and opened the door to find Sabrina's mother, Julia Elliott, looking at me with annoyance.

"Didn't hear me knock? What took you so long?"

She scowled, then caught sight of my bleary eyes and couldn't resist complaining, "Another night shift? Honestly, just quit that job. You're so busy you're barely home, and it's not like it pays well anyway. Sabrina makes more than enough to support you."

My sluggish brain took a moment to process what she was saying. As I looked at her busying herself in the kitchen, I parted my lips. "Mom, Sabrina's cheating on me."

After a long pause, Julia finally said calmly, "Oh, you mean Zane? That's not cheating. They're just really close."

I thought she'd be angry. My chest tightened with a violent tremor. Betrayal tore through me. "You knew?"

She closed the fridge with a nonchalant expression. "Sabrina's an amazing woman. It's only normal for guys to flock to her. Besides, she hasn't done anything wrong. You can't have children now, so stop being so selfish."

"Get them out, and make it quick," I ordered.Julia and Sabrina panicked at once."You can't throw us out, Adrian! I'm trying to talk to you. What's with this attitude?"Julia remained relentless. She stood there like a total shrew. Her hands were on her hips, and she refused to budge.Meanwhile, Sabrina was crying even louder. "Honey, please help me! I don't want to live in a rental forever! I can't do it!"I lost the last bit of patience I had. I signaled to Damien, who immediately had them dragged out of my house. Finally, some peace and quiet. That evening, the police called, asking me to come in. I knew something was off. When I arrived, they told me Sabrina was in an accident."You bastard! It's because of you that Sabrina and her baby are dead!" Julia lunged at me as soon as she saw me, and the police had to hold her back. When things didn't go as planned, the two of them started bickering on the way back. Sabrina, who always thought she was better than everyone else,

"Of all cars, it had to be my favorite," Leila muttered, wiping the blood from the corner of her mouth.I couldn't help but laugh. "She brought it on herself."Sabrina always carried herself with an air of arrogance, as if she were above everyone else. However, without her doctorate, she was nothing. After everything was sorted, Leila and I set off again. We basked in the sun at the beach, witnessed the aurora in Greugua, and played with animals in Driejan. For the first time, I felt truly relaxed, both physically and mentally.By the time we returned home, a whole month had passed.Sabrina had been ordered to pay 500 thousand dollars in compensation. Her remaining assets were drained, and she was forced to sell her house and move into a rental. As for the divorce agreement, she eventually signed it because she no longer had the money to fight a prolonged legal battle."How about Zane?" I asked, curious, after hearing Dad's secretary give a report in the office."He's still w

All I got in response was the smirk playing at the corners of Leila's mouth.I had thought that Sabrina would certainly agree to sign the divorce papers. However, a few days later, my lawyer informed me that she hadn't been answering any calls. It turned out the video had gone so viral that someone dug up her address and identity, causing chaos at her school.Hector was quick to act this time, expediting the process to expel both Sabrina and Zane. However, it didn't stop there. People went to her house. They banged on the door and filmed them, shouting insults while recording.Unable to bear the pressure, Sabrina and Zane had to move into a hotel. They even removed their SIM cards to avoid contact.I stirred my coffee, smirking. "This is nothing. Sabrina thought she was some literary giant. She wouldn't even pick up a dropped bottle of water. I don't believe Zane can put up with her much longer."A week later, Sabrina was kicked out of the hotel after receiving a noise complaint

Sabrina shouted, "No, Mr. Livingston! Why should I be punished? I just love a man! Why should I bear the blame for that? And why do you listen to Adrian so much? Are you two… involved with each other?"Before she could finish, I slapped her across the face. "Watch your mouth!"Clutching her face, she refused to back down. "Why should I? Adrian, you're just a doctor, yet you're acting so familiar with Mr. Livingston. Have you been sleeping with him? I didn't know that gender doesn't matter to you!"She completely lost it, and the room was filled with her hysterical screams.Hector looked at her as though she had gone mad. "Don't you know? Adrian's dad is the founder of Vortex Corp."Zane's face went pale, and his voice trembled. "Vortex Corp? The company that rules Astrakane? No way! How could his dad have anything to do with it?"Dad lost all patience and signaled to our relatives to move closer. "Are you done? If you're done, then let me have you beaten up!"The private room wa

Sabrina jumped to her feet and furiously screamed, "Don't talk nonsense, Adrian! Are you delusional or something?"I shrugged, looking helpless. "Wasn't it you who said at the hospital that you were going to force me to accept the baby in your belly on this very day?"She stared at me in disbelief. "You were spying on me?"I sneered. "I'm not interested in doing that. Besides, I already have evidence."As I said that, I waved my phone in the air."Oh, I forgot to tell you. After I found out that someone had messed with my seat, I placed a pinhole camera in the handlebar just in case."At the sight of Sabrina's and Zane's horrified expressions, I smiled. "Anyone interested in watching?"Zane instinctively lunged for my phone, but I dodged and gestured for the staff to turn on the screen. This pricey private room was totally worth it. The screen was massive, and the speakers were top-notch.As soon as the video began to play, a series of suggestive moans filled the room."Zane,

Julia was stunned by my actions, and her tone quickly turned impatient. "What's going on, Adrian? Why are these random people showing up at my birthday party? Get them out—"Before she could finish, Sabrina quickly interrupted her. "Mom, stop! That's Mr. Livingston, the dean from my school."Julia instantly put on a sycophantic smile. "Oh, Mr. Livingston! What an honor to have you here. Please, have a seat."Dad adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses. His tone was devoid of any emotion as he asked, "Mrs. Yellin, are you saying that Sabrina's in-laws are random people?"When Sabrina and I got married, Dad and Julia never really saw eye to eye and rarely interacted. However, today, since Hector was there, she managed to force an awkward smile. "Not at all. You're all my guests."She signaled to the waiter to start bringing the dishes. However, I stood up and stopped her. "Wait, it's not time to eat yet."My constant interruptions made Julia's expression darken. "Adrian, what are you tr
