Going To See Mom

Clary went silent for a few seconds and tried to take in the information. She could not tell if Mr. Clark was lying or not. But she knew that he had no reason to lie to her. But again, he did lie to her about her mom the first time.

And that was unprovoked.

“How do I know that you’re not lying to me?” Clary asked. Her depression simmered down a bit and a flicker of hope filled her. “You lied to me the first time about her, why should I believe you now?”

Mr. Clark cleared his throat and then said, “I’m sorry that I lied to you the first time, I should not have. I just did not want you to hate me. But I think keeping you in the dark will hurt any chance at a relationship between us, than telling the whole truth.”

“Okay,” Clary dragged the word, encouraging him to tell her what he needed to. She was very intrigued and her curiosity was begging to hear what Mr. Clark had to say.
