Freya’s POV

The energy of the relic hummed against my flesh as it pulsed in my hands. It was a dark stone with glowing inscriptions that seemed to change when I wasn't staring at them; it was both beautiful and disturbing. As I gazed at it and felt its strength seeping into my bones, my heart raced.

I got a flashback to the previous vision: the price I would have to pay, the pack burning, Kane falling. Was this the solution? Was this artefact the thing that would destroy us all, or was it the means to breaking the curse?

In an attempt to calm myself, I inhaled deeply. I said to myself, "I must do this."

I closed my eyes and placed my trembling fingers around the artefact. The world appeared to change the instant I did. A sudden, uncontrollable burst of energy swept over me. The air around me sparked with power, and the ground shook beneath me. I was barely able to hold onto the relic as it was reacting and feeding off me.

"Freya!" From behind me, I heard Kane's worried voice. The ener

  • Luna Of The Lost Bloodline    Chapter 23

Freya’s POVI stood amid dusty books and scrolls in the peaceful library of the pack. I could feel the weight of all the forgotten secrets in the room, and the air was heavy with ancient wisdom. I ran my fingers over the leather-bound books, looking for anything that may help us beat Sophia. Then I discovered it an ancient, worn parchment tucked away in the back of a shelf. Something about it appealed to me, even though the ink was hardly readable. I felt my heart pound as I unfolded it.The prophecy.Even though I wasn't sure I believed them, I read the sentences out loud. The bloodline will guide the pack through its most difficult time when the last descendant of the goddess rises. The curse can only be lifted by the goddess' child, but it will cost a lot.I paused. My throat tightened with each breath. It was about me, about my kid. As the significance dawned on me, my heart raced.I said quietly to myself, "The secret to lifting this curse is this child, the one developing inside

  • Luna Of The Lost Bloodline    Chapter 22

Freya’s POVI felt the familiar, gentle weight of someone's arms around me as my eyes opened. I was surrounded by warmth, which instantly calmed my pounding heart. Kane. It was the arms of Kane."Freya." His voice was tremulous and low, full of worry. "Are you conscious? Are you alright?I tried to concentrate by blinking. I couldn't recall when or why I had fallen asleep, but my body felt heavy as if I had been asleep for days. The last thing I remembered was the power spiralling out of control and the wild energy inside of me. The shadows..."Kane?" I could hardly speak above a whisper.I could feel his chest rise and fall with a long breath as his hold tightened around me. He mumbled to himself, "Thank the gods."I tried to sit up as I moved in his arms. I straightened myself after a moment of my head spinning. The agony of the chains had subsided, but I still felt a dull aching that was a warning from deep inside of me. The magic. I could still feel it whirling inside of me, but i

  • Luna Of The Lost Bloodline    Chapter 21

Freya’s POVNever in my life have I felt so powerless. In the back of my mind, I sensed something stirring, but the shackles around my wrists grew more intense with each second that went by. Kane would arrive. I sensed it.I trusted him even though I didn't know how he would find me or break into Sophia's fortress. He wouldn't stop, I knew. Despite the overwhelming odds, he would come for me.Strong and resolute, Kane's words reverberated in my head as though he were addressing me directly. "Freya, I won't abandon you. Wait a moment.I gasped for air as the chains tightened once more despite my best efforts to hang on. It was more difficult to breathe. There was not much time left. Then, though, I sensed movement through the fog of anguish. The air changed in some way. Steps. Others were present. Kane wasn't by himself.Although I couldn't hear the words, I could hear him giving commands in a firm, commanding voice. He was in Sophia's den with the pack. They were near. They must have

  • Luna Of The Lost Bloodline    Chapter 20

Freya’s POVMy body was sore and stiff when I woke up to the darkness. The air was heavy, frigid, and under unusual pressure. Bound by chains that radiated a spooky red light, my arms were stretched above my head. They burned like fire as they dug into my skin, but the sense of powerlessness was even worse than the pain. With each tug, the chains grew tighter as I attempted to move and escape. They appeared to get stronger the harder I fought, encircling my limbs like a poisonous snake."This isn't real," I told myself in a whisper. It's only a dream. It doesn't end like this. However, the reality struck me like a blast of ice. It was authentic. The chains were authentic. Furthermore, they were depleting me rather than only holding me. I sensed a weird, gnawing feeling inside of me as if something essential were being extracted from my body.I gritted my teeth, not wanting to appear weak. Though I wasn't sure if she could hear me, I growled, "I won't let you win, Sophia." I had to be

  • Luna Of The Lost Bloodline    Chapter 19

Freya’s POVThe only sound in the eerily calm woodland was the thumping of my heart. I had arrived here to confront Sophia directly, but she was unaware that I wasn't simply falling into her trap. I had a plan of my own that she would never realize.I had to act. Act as though I was submitting to her authority and was willing to agree to her conditions to protect my child. But I knew in my heart what I had to do. Sophia believed she could manipulate and dominate me into doing as she wanted. However, she didn't comprehend who I was or what I was prepared to do to keep the people I cared about safe.I continued to go slowly and deliberately. I got closer to her lair, the centre of her evil power, the farther I travelled. I was aware that this might be my only opportunity to destroy her from the inside out. I might be able to permanently stop her if I could get near enough and find out her secrets.I must keep Kane alive. I couldn't allow my decisions to hurt anyone else.I reflected on
