Freya’s POV

I had the unshakeable impression that something was seriously amiss. I kept thinking about the warning from the rogue spy, and the increasing hostility in the pack only made it worse. More must be happening than anyone was acknowledging.

Later that night, I was standing in front of Liam's cabin, trying to figure out what was going on. In the Blueblood Pack, he was one of the few individuals I had faith in, but now...

With my heart racing, I knocked on the door. Liam waited a long moment before opening it. He appeared startled to see me, but as soon as he saw how serious my eyes were, his demeanour hardened.

"Freya? He inquired. "What is this about?"

I said, "I need to talk to you," and entered without asking permission. "The rogue spy is the subject."

Liam's gaze wavered, but he soon collected himself. How about him?"

I looked closely at him, attempting to read his face. "When we caught him, you were behaving strangely. I have been hearing rumours. Tales of treachery.

Liam's mouth clenched. Rumours? You ought to be wise enough to avoid listening to rumours.

I firmly stated, "I don't listen to gossip." "I pay attention to the facts."

He hesitated for a long moment, and I could see the tension in his eyes. He sighed at last.

"I'm not the enemy, Freya. My entire life, I have been devoted to the pack.

I squinted. "There's a problem, but I'm not accusing you. I must know your position.

Liam began to move uneasily. "You're acting suspiciously. No one has betrayed you. You're simply allowing your feelings to influence your decisions.

His remarks didn't seem correct. I could detect tiny hints of something different hiding beneath his façade, fissures in it. I wanted to push more, but he retreated before I could.

"This is not something I have time for. Later, we will discuss.

Without waiting for me to finish speaking, he shut the door.

I didn't believe what Liam was saying. However, there wasn't much I could do about it yet. As I made my way back to the main home, still digesting the chat, my mind was racing. I couldn't exactly put the pieces together, but I had a feeling that the truth was right in front of me.

One of the pack warriors drew me aside as soon as I stepped into the pack house.

"Freya," he whispered in a quiet, desperate voice. "You must accompany me. Right now.

I followed him, bewildered, down the hall past the pack members' quarters until we arrived at the council chamber. I could hear voices within, and the door was ajar.

Sophia's voice, full of icy authority, was unmistakable: "I don't care what anyone else says." "Freya poses a risk. She must be dealt with since she is a rogue sympathizer.

The sound of her words made me freeze. My chest was racing with my heart.

Liam's voice, which sounded abnormally stern, replied, "I'm not the one who's been getting cosy with rogues." "Don't bring me into it; I have no idea what you're trying to do."

I cautiously remained hidden as I peered inside. Liam leaned against the wall, appearing uneasy, while Sophia stood at the council table, her stance assured and intimidating.

Sophia smiled mischievously and continued, "Liam, you have a part to play." "I want Freya to appear culpable. I'll make sure everyone knows you've been supporting her the entire time if you don't help me.

I could see Liam's fists gripping at his sides as his face clenched. "All right," he mumbled grudgingly. "You had better not to cross me, though."

Sophia gave a charming smile. "Liam, don't worry. You will have just what you desire.

With a beating heart, I withdrew. They were scheming to harm me. All along, I was correct. They were attempting to set me up.

Before the word spread, I had just returned to my room. All of the pack members were invited to a public meeting that Sophia had organized. There was nothing I could do but go.

The council hall was crowded with fighters, pack members, and people who agreed with Sophia's assertion. I took a seat close to the rear, my heart heaving from what I had heard.

Kane stood at the front, staring down at the crowd with harsh eyes. Threats have been coming at us from all sides. Betrayals, spies, and rogues. And now there is someone among us who is attempting to dismantle this bundle.

My stomach rumbled. It was this. They were going to make a false accusation against me.

Sophia smiled smugly and stepped forward. "The traitor has come to light. The spurned-mate, Freya, has always collaborated with the rogues. We cannot afford to keep her here any longer, and she shows no devotion to this pack.

The crowd said, and I could sense that everyone in the group was watching me.

Then Kane said something. Although he spoke in a calm tone, I didn't anticipate the edge in his voice.

He turned to her and said, "Enough, Sophia." "I will not accept charges without supporting documentation."

Sophia's eyes went wide with surprise. After everything that had transpired between us, she hadn't anticipated that he would stand up for me.

Kane said, turning to face me, "Freya is not our enemy. She is a member of this pack, and anyone who questions that will have to answer to me."

Unable to believe what I was hearing, I stood motionless. Was Kane standing up for me in public? Was the man who had turned me away, who had ignored me as if I were unimportant, now defending me?

Sophia's face flushed with rage. "You're not serious! She poses a danger! She will ruin all our hard work!"

Kane's face grew serious. "You've been fired, Sophia. I'm going to stop listening to this bullshit.

Sophia gave him a fierce look, but she was at a loss for words. I could feel the room's weight change as she bounded out of the hallway. While some of the pack members continued to stare at me suspiciously, others gave me a more respectful gaze.

I couldn't concentrate on that just now, but I wasn't sure what Kane's abrupt change of heart meant. I needed to know what Liam and Sophia were up to.

I crept out of my room that night as the moon was high in the sky. I needed to know what Liam and Sophia were up to.

I stayed out of sight, following them from a distance. Their voices were low and frantic as they met in the shadows close to the pack grounds' edge.

"Time is almost here," Sophia remarked. "Everything is set up. Kane will have to decide between his pack and his emotions once Freya falls.

Anxiety tightened Liam's voice. "This bothers me. It feels incorrect.

Sophia's chuckle was harsh and icy. "It's too late to change my mind now. We will lose everything if we don't take this action. I'm taking the required steps to ensure the pack's survival.

After a period of silence, Liam spoke once again. What if Kane discovers?"

He will then have to decide. However, it will be too late by then.

My breath caught in my throat as I took a step back. I was done listening. Everything that Kane had worked so hard to achieve was going to be destroyed. And I was a pawn in their game.

When I realized how deeply they had betrayed me, my heart began to race. I wasn't the only one involved. Everything was at stake: Kane, the pack, and the future that we all desired.

With my heart racing, I turned and ran back to the safety of my room. However, I couldn't get rid of the sensation that I was about to fall into a trap. Someone I previously trusted created a trap for me.

It was a matter of my emotions and the pack's future. And before it was too late, I needed to figure out how to stop Liam and Sophia.

Freya’s POVThere was chaos on the battlefield. All around us, we could hear the striking of swords, the cries of fighters, and the roars of beasts. My fingers were sweat-slick from holding my sword, and I could feel my heart rushing. The enemy was relentless and used all of their strength to advance. Kane was fighting beside me, his moves sharp and exact as he cut through the enemy lines. Something inside of me was changing, but I still wanted to fight with him, to be strong by his side. I could feel my skills throbbing beneath my skin, and they were getting stronger. I simply had no idea how to handle them. "Freya!" I was shocked out of my trance by Kane's tone. "Focus! We need to take down their boss if we have any chance of winning!" I nodded, swallowing the fear that rose in my throat. I had to do this. For Kane. For all of us. I raised my hand, and suddenly, a wave of energy rushed through me. The ground beneath my feet cracked, and a burst of light shot from my fingers, bla

Freya’s POVThe air was thick with anxiety as I stood behind Kane, looking at the chart stretched out in front of us. Our plan was risky, but it was the only option we had left. If we didn’t move quickly, the enemy would overrun us all. And if we failed, the cost would be unthinkable. "We need to hit them where they least expect it," Kane continued, his voice calm but filled with an edge of urgency. "Their stronghold is heavily guarded, but there’s a weak point here." He pointed to a narrow pass on the map. "It’s the only place they’re vulnerable." I nodded, my mind racing. "If we can get in through there, we can take them by surprise. But what if they’re expecting us?" "They won’t," Kane replied, eyes narrowing. "We’ll move quickly. We’ll make a distraction and slip in before they know what struck them." A shiver went through me. The plan was bold. We would have to use all of our resources to make it work. However, that was our only opportunity. I said, "We move tonight," in a q

Freya’s POVAs I stood there looking at my brother Azrak, the wind howled all around us. Despite his angry expression, there was something else—almost... familiar—in his gaze."What are you doing?" With hardly more than a whisper, I asked. The darkness within me stirred, and my heart thumped. "Why would you betray everyone in this way?"A ruthless sneer twisted Azrak's lips. "Betrayal? Freya, no. No one has been betrayed by me. I'm only stealing what belongs to me.My mind racing, I shook my head. However, you are my brother! How could you harm me like this? To everyone?"Azrak's eyes briefly softened before hardening once more. "I take it you don't understand? We are all affected by the darkness that permeates our veins and the history of our family. This power and this war are aspects of who we are.Bewildered and scared, I took a step back. "No, you're not correct. We are not required to take that route. We can combat it.He gave a sour laugh. However, I had learned about something else today, something much more horrifying.Kane's voice cut through my thoughts, "I need to speak with you." He was standing behind me, his face glum, when I turned around."What is it?" I inquired, already fearing his response. Every chat we had lately seemed to exacerbate the situation. He led me to the fire where the others were gathered and said, "Come inside." "We have gained knowledge. The adversary, perhaps. With every step I took, the fear in my chest grew as I followed him. Kane looked at the others and then at me as we sat down."We have to tell you something, Freya." After pausing, he inhaled deeply. "You know the person who has been pulling the strings, the leader of the shadow creatures. Someone from your history.Confused, I scowled. "What are you discussing? Freya’s POV Now, the air around me felt changed. Heavier. Thicker. As if the world itself were holding its breath. I stared down at my hands, which shook. The burning excitement from just a few moments ago was still flowing through my blood. "What am I experiencing?" Uncertain whether I was even prepared to accept what was happening, I said to myself. The voice in my mind that had pushed me to accept this power was still there, speaking its warnings and promises like a ghost. "Freya?" My thoughts were broken by Kane's words, and I looked back to see him standing a few feet away, looking at me worriedly. "Are you alright?" I didn't know if I believed it myself, but I nodded. "I... Kane, I'm not sure. Something changed within me. Kane took a step forward, his eyes carefully examining me in an attempt to understand the situation. As if to test the words, he said, "You've got this… power now." But I don't know if that's a good thing. I've watched how it affects you. Freya, the darkne

Freya’s POV The thick, heavy mist spun about us. Even though I could hardly see Kane next to me, I could feel his hand tightly holding mine. We needed to leave this place. Before it overwhelmed us all, we needed to figure out how to fight this new threat. "What's going on? With shaking fear in my voice, I whispered. "What plans does Zarek have?" Although Kane had a focused look on his face, I could see worry in his eyes. "I'm not sure. But we can't allow him to win. We must have answers quickly. The world appeared to whirl around us as we fought to find our way through the black mist. There was magic in the air, and it was cold. I nearly lost my balance as I stumbled, but Kane was there to help me stay standing. Kane said quietly, "Freya," in a low, serious voice. "I believe we must understand Korrin's true character. He wasn't just a ruthless ruler who wanted power. Something deeper and more important is at work here. With my heart racing, I nodded. Though I was always aware of
