LOGINFreya’s POV
The forest was slanting its morning sun in all directions, all over the dirt. I was sitting on a broken log, and my arm was sore as I was still feeling the dull ache in it. Lucian was cowering just around, at a small fire which he had made. He is still a bit strange with me, yet he rescued my life, and I cannot turn a blind eye to that.
You are too quiet, he said without looking up, and disturbed the heavy silence. Keep interested in the questions that are swirling in your head, I guess.
I hesitated, biting my lip. "Why did you save me, really? And why do you know so much of me?
The fire was crackling, and Lucian poked another stick of wood into it. Due to the fact that I followed your pack all these years. I am familiar with Kane, his leadership and the legends he created during his rule.
I stiffened. "You hate him, don’t you?"
His eyes were silver, and there was a brewing emotion. "Hate is too weak a word. Kane killed my life, my family, my pack. He's no Alpha, Freya. He's a tyrant."
My heart wavered, and I scowled. His rejection had come like a blow to Kane, but when Lucian talked of him so bitterly, it woke something up within me. "Why should I believe you?"
Lucian smirked, sharp as ever. "You don’t have to. But tell me, Freya--has he never handled you like you were so? Or does he not know you have ever been to him as a mere instrument to his Blueblood Pack?
I gulp; his words cut even deeper than I would like to admit. You do not know what it is like... to be turned down.
"Oh, but I do," Lucian said darkly. I can get thrown away by people I thought could be trusted. And I shall ensure that they pay all, beginning with Kane.
At the Blueblood Pack, Kane was sitting in his office, gazing upon the territory map on the wall. His mind had not been on boundaries or documents; it was on me.
His hands gripped his frustration rising within him. The pack made the correct decision of rejecting me, right?
Something seemed to bother you, you do look troubled, said a low voice behind him.
He looked around at Sophia with her fair features, radiant with golden hair. She came round to his side and touched him on the arm. "Is it about the girl?"
Kane jerked back, his jaw set. "Freya is none of your concern."
Sophia smiled with her lips, yet her eyes were flashing icily. "You did what you had to. She was not worthy to stand with her, Kane. You must have a strong person, a person like -.
I do not need advice, Sophia; I do not need advice, Kane interrupted her. When she went, he sat in his chair and had his head in his hands. He could never get the picture of my face with streaming eyes off his mind, however much he attempted to defend his deeds.
Small, prudent strides took Sophia through the thick trees to some lonely spot. Liam stood waiting, propping himself against a tree. His black eyes shone with her approach.
About time, he said, and then he pushed himself off the tree. I was just starting to wonder why you were chickening out.
Sophia glared. "Don’t be ridiculous. I am as glad that Kane will fall as you are.
Liam chuckled, arms crossed. Oh, I do not think you take any interest in Kane falling. You simply want to be queen, whoever you have to walk over on the way.
She didn't deny it. Instead, she gave him a little vial containing a misty, dark fluid. "This will weaken him," she said. That will do your rogues well enough to have a blow when it comes.
"And the girl?" Liam asked, tone serious.
"Freya?" Sophia scoffed. "She’s no threat. Let her rot wherever she ran away.
Liam smirked and put the vial in his pocket. "We’ll see about that."
Lucian made his way to me, in sure and steady steps across the wood. I trailed on, yet with doubts whether or not I could trust him.
"Where are we going?" I asked, breaking the silence.
To some uncanny spot where no man is, I said, and with unfocused eyes.
I glanced around nervously. The trees were overshadowing, and the branches were skeletal fingers, twisting. And why do you take so much concern about me?
Lucian gave a sudden stop and looked up at me. Freya, because you are more than you think, Freya. Kane has turned his back on you, but he does not know what he has lost.
I was twisting at what he said. "What are you talking about?"
He moved to come nearer, with silver eyes staring at me. "Your lineage. Your power. It is not visible, but it is deep inside, and I can feel it. And I can help you unlock it."
I shook my head, backing away. "I don’t understand. I’m just… me. A servant, a reject—"
You are so much more, I interrupted, and you know it. And then tell me why you think you were attacked by the rogues, not because I do not believe you? Why are they hunting you?"
I froze, his words sinking in. The ferocity of the rogues, their unremitting chase... it was not to be understood. Unless...
They knew, I said to myself in chills of realisation. "They knew who I am."
Lucian nodded. And so does Kane, whether he likes it or not. That was the reason why he turned his back on you, Freya. He fears you."
I was heart racing with confusion and fear in my heart. "What am I?"
Lucian lost his scowl and mumbled in a low voice. You are an heir of something, something strong and forgotten. And to live, you will have to accept it.
I had no time to answer when the ground shook violently, with deep rumbling in the forest. Lucian tightened his eyes and went on alert.
They discovered us, he said to himself, in a hurry.
“Who?” I asked, panic rising in my chest.
Lucian’s gaze darkened. “The hunters. And they won’t stop until they’ve taken everything from you.”
Freya’s POVThe packhouse was so tense that I thought I could cut through it with a knife. In a tense silence, wolves milled about, their apprehensive stares interspersed with muttered discussions. With the weight of my increasing obligations bearing down on me, I stood by the window and gazed out at the trees.Kane said softly, "Freya," and entered the room. "He's present."He was standing near the door as I turned around, his face unreadable. Two of our soldiers were waiting in the common area with the enigmatic wolf that had escaped from Sophia's camp. With questions racing through my head, I followed Kane, my heart racing. The wolf appeared dishevelled, with his clothing ripped and his fur matted. Though he stood tall and defiant, his golden eyes darted nervously about the room. His voice was scratchy as he said, "My name is Darian." Although I was a member of Sophia's camp, I've had enough. I'd want to assist.Kane's eyes were icy as he crossed his arms. "Why should we have faith
Freya’s POVI was constantly pacing. Since Lucian had departed, the knot in my stomach had only become tighter. He had insisted on going even though his goal was suicidal."Kane, what's causing your composure?" I glared at him and demanded. His arms were folded as he leaned against the wall, his eyes calm but clouded."I'm not at ease," he said. "I just know that he won't benefit from panicking now."I felt like screaming. "He's out there by himself, avoiding unspeakable traps, all to undermine Sophia's power! Suppose something were to happen to him.Kane's tone becomes piercing. Freya, Lucian was aware of the dangers. He made his decision.I tightened my fists as I felt guilty. I was to blame for this. Had I not shoved him, had I not—My thoughts were ripped apart by the piercing crack of energy. I froze, grasping the edge of the table for balance as my head snapped up."What was that?" Even though I already knew, I whispered.Kane's features hardened as he straightened. "The artifac
Freya’s POVThe weight of what lay ahead made the morning air chilly. With his arms folded and a gloomy look on his face, Kane stood next to me at the training grounds. The pack crowded around us, their faces displaying a mixture of resolve and terror.Kane said, "We all know what we're up against," in a firm yet solemn tone. "Sophia won't give up until she ruins all we value. However, we will not let her. Families look out for one another, and this pack is our family. With my voice rising over the whispers, I took a step forward. "She's bringing everything she has, but we're also bringing everything." We are more powerful as a team than any adversary. Have faith in each other, in your training, and yourselves. This is something we can win.For the first time in days, I noticed optimism in their eyes as a wave of accord swept over the audience.“You have a way of inspiring them,” Kane said to me as the pack scattered to get ready.I gave a small smile. They motivate me. They are entit
Freya’s POVStill getting over the rogue attack and Sophia's betrayal, the pack remained in disarray. I saw injured pack members attempting to start over everywhere I looked. I felt guilty for their suffering, but I also felt a renewed sense of resolve.I saw some juvenile wolves rehearsing their positions as I was moving around the training grounds. Their motions were rigid and unsure."Cease! I yelled. They turned to face me and halted, their eyes widening."Freya? One of them, Lina, a young girl, inquired nervously."You're doing it completely incorrectly," I said as I moved forward. "You have too little footing. In a struggle, you'll lose your equilibrium.I adopted the appropriate posture and spoke in a forceful yet gentle tone. similar to this. Maintain an equal weight distribution and a small bend in your knees. Try again now.Their moves improved as they did what I instructed."That's all," I urged. "Better. Keep in mind that self-assurance is equally as vital as physical stre
Freya’s POVThe conflict left a cloud in its wake. The once-pristine Blueblood land was now scarred with destruction. As the sunrise painted the sky in pink and orange hues, I sat close to the training grounds' edge. However, the beauty didn't do much to calm my inner storm."What just took place over there? With my palms still tingling from the subtle remnants of the golden light, I said to myself.I was shocked to hear Kane's deep voice say, "Freya." I turned to see him approaching me with deliberate, cautious steps. Despite the bandage covering his side, he exuded vigour.I remarked, my voice trembling a little, "You should be sleeping."He responded strongly at first, then softer, "I'll rest when I know my pack is safe." "Freya, you accomplished something amazing. However, I must know... Are you aware of who you are?"I gave a headshake. "I don't. This strength... It appears it appeared suddenly. Kane, I have no control over it.His sharp eyes met mine as he knelt next to me. "We'
Freya’s POVThe air was clear and quiet in the early morning, the kind of quiet that raised the hairs on the back of my neck. After hearing Sophia and Liam's plans the previous evening, I was unable to sleep and stood close to the edge of the training fields."Freya! As he ran at me, one of the warriors yelled out. His eyes were wide and his voice sounded frantic. "The rogues are to blame! They have arrived!"My heart fell. It was too late to issue the warning.Howls reverberated through the Blueblood Pack area before I could respond. I turned to see the dark figures of rogues rising from the tree line, their eyes glimmering with a wild desire, and my stomach knotted."Come to the main house, everyone! Kane's words echoed loudly throughout the grounds. He had already transformed into a wolf, his enormous body a sign of power and authority. We were unprepared for such a massive attack, even though warriors rushed to construct a defensive line.I was paralyzed, caught between the urge t
