Thirty Eight

This is your typical modern family.

Once Dad takes a sip of his cup, his red eyes look up at me. He put his coffee cup down and folded the newspaper.

"Morning, kiddo," he smiles as Mom hands him a plate of pancakes.

She also placed a plate of cooked bacon, sunny side eggs, and fresh biscuits.

"M-morning," I grabbed a seat in front of him as I was served pancakes covered with strawberry syrup and whip cream.

"Ready for your first day of college?" Dad asks, taking a piece of pancake into his mouth. He moaned and looked at Mom. "You make the best pancakes, baby." They show affection to one another, forgetting I'm in the room.

"Um...yeah," I didn't know how to respond since it was the first time I'll be attending college.

Of course, I'm at that age of going back to school to prepare if my choice of career. But I never would've thought I get the chance.

"Have you thought of what you want to do?"

"Huh?" I muffle with a mouth full of pancakes. Dad was right, and Mom made the best pancakes. "
